SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Three cars were damaged during a pursuit through Cortez Hill Monday afternoon. According to police, the chase began around 3:50 p.m. at the intersection of Ninth Avenue and Beech Street. The reason for the chase was unclear. The chase ended a short distance away on the 1300 block of Park Boulevard. During the chase, the suspect struck three other vehicles, two of which were parked. Two suspects were arrested and police say no serious injuries were reported following the crash. 510

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The Port of San Diego is taking extra precautions with cruise lines amid heightened awareness surrounding the coronavirus.About 38 ships are expected to dock in San Diego through May, some shops that rely on travelers are concerned business may slow down if cruises are canceled.Some say they've already noticed a change.The Port of San Diego says they installed these hand washing stations once the coronavirus concerns started rising. "Being that people try these on, I always spray them I disinfect them and this is the solution."Smart usually sees a boost in business when cruise ships dock in San Diego. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The United States Postal Service unveiled its newest forever stamp Wednesday, honoring pioneering astronaut and UC San Diego professor Sally Ride.The ceremony, held at the UCSD campus, featured several of Ride's family and friends, including her life and business parter, Tam O'Shaughnessy, astronaut and Director of the Johnson Space Center Ellen Ochoa, and tennis legend and activist Billie Jean King.RELATED: First American woman in space to be honored with the Sally Ride Forever Stamp"It's amazing the impact and the long-lasting impact that Sally Ride's going to have," King told 10News. "And the stamp, this forever stamp, will be a big help."O'Shaughnessy revealed to 10News that Ride was a stamp collector, herself. "She just kept doing it her whole life, so she would just be so honored with this."Ride was the first American woman in space. Upon leaving NASA, she became a professor. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Sweetwater Union High School District announced their plans for the 2020-2021 school year Thursday night to the board and community.Due to a rise in coronavirus cases and state restrictions classes will be completely virtual from Aug. 3-Oct. 2.Students will have a block schedule, which means no change for many students. They will have three classes a day with 30-45 minutes of face time with their teacher and 45-60 minutes of class spent as independent study.The district said this provides flexibility to both teachers and students.The district said there will be graded assignments and tests, but teachers voiced their opinion saying it is hard to monitor whether students are cheating. The district set three checkpoints to determine if the district will remain virtual throughout the entire school year. Those dates are September 21, November 30 and March 1. These dates allow the district to plan for the future, coordinating buses and teacher's needs.Some parents aren't comfortable with the idea of going back to campus anytime soon."I'm feeling like they need to study it more," said Dr. Marie Zhivago said. Her incoming senior and freshman students have asthma, making them more vulnerable to COVID-19. "I don't want my kids to be guinea pigs. I don't want them to be the test," Zhivago said. She thinks if students go back to school too early there could be another wave of cases, adding, "I'm not ready to sacrifice one child for that, one death, no way."The district said when they're allowed to bring children back to campus there will be strict guidelines for social distancing, masks and sanitation.The district is offering a separate virtual learning opportunity for up to 360 families, called Launch Academy.The district said students are being connected with equipment to get them online and have resources available for students, teachers and counselors.Zhivago said these investments will pay dividends, telling ABC 10News, "I think they should put the funding into distance learning because this is definitely going to happen again."The board will vote Monday on the proposed plans. 2137

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The Port of San Diego will begin its first over water testing of lighting on the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge, as the Port continues efforts to install lighting across a portion of the bridge.The testing will start on Sunday, Nov. 8, and continue to Saturday, Nov. 14, from 6:15 p.m. to midnight.The testing will include 170 computer-programmed LED lights and controllers temporarily installed on three of the bridge's tallest columns near the center of the structure. Each night, a live technical test will be conducted in different colors, combinations, sequencing, and arrangements."This bridge lighting test provides San Diego a unique opportunity to see what’s possible and how the infusion of technology and art can make people feel connected to, and inspired by, our beautiful waterfront," said Commissioner Marshall Merrifield, Port of San Diego Board of Port Commissioners. "Our goal is to ignite the imaginations of every person in the San Diego region, and after years of dedicated time to the project, bring forward a viable, beautiful addition to the nighttime skyline."The testing will see periods of darkness as other aspects are being tested, so the lighting won't be constant illuminated.The upcoming testing is the second test of the project. The first took place in April 2019, when lighting was tested on two columns over land on the San Diego side of the bridge.Following the over water testing, the Port will reach out to community members for input about the lighting and design. 1530
