PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — For a summer treat, it doesn’t get much cooler than -320 degrees. That’s how cold liquid nitrogen is when it transforms cereal into "Dragon’s Breath."“The vapor coming out of your mouth is a nice effect," said Ron Daranty, who owns Subzero Nitrogen Ice Cream in Parkland.However, a mom in St. Augustine is warning parents of children with asthma about the fad food after her son experienced health issues from eating Dragon's Breath.“We’ve sold thousands of them since January and we never had any issue," Daranty said.Subzero employees in Parkland have always warned people to be careful with the very cold cup and avoid drinking any excess liquid nitrogen, Daranty said. We also started making people aware of it," he said.The risk of ingesting liquid nitrogen is purely scientific. Chris Pait, of the South Florida Science Center in Palm Beach County, said the extremely cold temperature can give people frostbite in their mouth or lungs."It can evaporate away in your mouth, but if you breathe that cold air in, there’s a chance that it’s cold enough to freeze the water that’s in your lungs," Pait said. "Your lungs are a mucous membrane. They need to be moist to work the way they should, so if you freeze your lungs obviously that isn’t a good thing. That’s going to cause problems. It’s almost like frostbite internally rather than externally."That’s why the science center shows off the power of liquid nitrogen in a controlled demonstration where professionals use gloves and goggles while handling liquid nitrogen. They show children how it can freeze a balloon, send a plug flying off a beaker, and, of course, make ice cream. But they serve that ice cream in a way that's safe. “When we do ice cream, the nitrogen is just there to freeze the liquid into the more solid form so by the time they eat it, the nitrogen is gone, it’s evaporated away," Pait said.Daranty said employees are specially trained on how to handle liquid nitrogen. PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi, one of the most prominent women to lead a Fortune 500 company, will step down on Oct. 3.She will remain as chairwoman of the board of directors until early 2019. Nooyi, 62, will be replaced by Pepsi's global operations chief Ramon Laguarta, 54.Nooyi, who was born in India, is one of a handful of people of color to lead a Fortune 500 company.She helped turn Pepsi into one of the most successful food and beverage companies in the world. Sales grew 80% during her 12-year tenure. She spearheaded Pepsi's transition to a greener, more environmentally aware company.Nooyi has been with Pepsi for 24 years. Parts of an operation linked to Russian military intelligence targeting the US Senate and conservative think tanks were thwarted last week, Microsoft announced early Tuesday.The company said it executed a court order giving it control of six websites created by a group known as Fancy Bear. The group was behind the 2016 hack of the Democratic National Committee and directed by the GRU, the Russian military intelligence unit, according to cybersecurity firms.The websites could have been used to launch cyberattacks on candidates and other political groups ahead of November's elections, the company said.Among the websites a judge in the Eastern District of Virginia granted Microsoft control of were those with domain names designed to resemble sites used by congressional staff. They include "senate.group," and "adfs-senate.email."Other domains were designed to look like they were related to the Hudson Institute, a conservative think tank, and the International Republican Institute, whose board includes six serving senators, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Gen. H.R. McMaster.Microsoft said the domains were "associated with the Russian government and known as Strontium, or alternatively Fancy Bear or APT28." The company said it has no evidence that the domains were used in successful attacks but that it was working with the potential target organizations.Microsoft argued in court that the domains were posing as some of its company's services.Hackers could have used the domains to send emails to Senate staffers or people working for the Hudson Institute or the International Republican Institute in an attempt to trick them into handing over information, like their passwords.This form of attack, known as spearphishing, was successfully used to target Hillary Clinton's campaign chairman John Podesta in 2016.Missouri Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill's staff was similarly targeted by a Russian group last year. McCaskill says the attempt was unsuccessful."Attackers want their attacks to look as realistic as possible and they therefore create websites and URLs that look like sites their targeted victims would expect to receive email from or visit," Microsoft President Brad Smith said in a blog posted to the company's website on Monday night.The news comes less than a week after it emerged that two Democratic congressional primary candidates were hacked earlier this year.The campaigns of Dr. Hans Keirstead and David Min, both of whom lost in California's June primaries, were breached, but the groups responsible for the attacks have not been made public and may not be known.Microsoft said Monday that, in light of the ongoing threats to political groups in the US, it was launching a specialized cybersecurity protection service called AccountGuard.The company says it will offer the service to all candidates and campaign officials, as well as think tanks and political organizations that use Microsoft Office 365, at no additional cost.The initiative is part of Microsoft's Defending Democracy Program, which it launched in April. Police in Illinois have deemed a local man a hero after he raced to rescue a man from a burning vehicle on Sunday evening.According to the Aurora Police Department's Facebook page, a 57-year-old man rushed to the rescue after a single-car crash just after midnight on Saturday. Dash cam video from the crash shows the man dragging the driver away from the car by his legs as flames shoot out of the driver's side window.According to Aurora police, it was 58-year-old Jose Martinez who rushed out of his home to save the driver, a 34-year-old man. A second man, 29-year-old Devin Johnson, also helped by pulling the man away from the car.  "To say Jose's actions were heroic and brave are an understatement. Had he not taken immediate action, the driver would not have lived," the department wrote on Facebook. " Devin should also be commended for assuring the man was out of harm's way. PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. - Two people were shot Friday evening during a football game at Palm Beach Central High School in Florida.According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, one of the victims was located on the school property. The second victim was transported to a local hospital by a friend. Officials say both victims are currently being treated at area hospitals. Their conditions are unknown. Gender and ages of the victims have not been confirmed at this time. Initial reports from district personnel indicated the shots seem to have come from outside the stadium, the school district said. Details on this remain under investigation. Dwyer student-athletes boarded the bus and were escorted back to Dwyer High School, according to Kathy Burstein with the School District of Palm Beach County. Unaccompanied students were picked up in the school's bus loop. There were a number of law enforcement officers on site. All students are safe, no students are reported injured, according to a tweet from PBCSD.School district officials present at the football game, including school police, school principal, assistant principals and many others do not report any kind of student altercation prior to shots being fired and no student disruptions leading up to shots being fired were reported either, said Burstein. All district outdoor activities, sporting events, and practices are canceled for the weekend, including third-party rentals of athletic fields, according to the school district. Suspect information and motive are unknown at this time. The shooter is still not in custody, officials say. PBSO says this is not an active shooter situation. Palm Beach County School Board Police have requested PBSO Violent Crimes Division to assume the shooting investigation.  1882
