SAN DIEGO — Business owners across San Diego County are readying to push back against a potential new round of Coronavirus restrictions.The county could reach the state’s most restrictive purple tier on Tuesday, meaning restaurants, gyms, nail salons and estheticians would all have to stop indoor service.Business owners are now calling this a fight for survival.“We’ve been in the red since March, so the bleeding’s got to stop somewhere,” said Ben Clevenger, who owns Lakeside’s Eastbound Bar and Grill.Clevenger has reduced his staff from 45 to about 15, and he’s now taking shifts running food and cooking in the kitchen. Among California’s 10 most populous counties, San Diego is the only one with virus cases low enough to meet state standards for reopening theaters, museums and gyms, and resuming indoor dining — all with limited capacity to provide for physical distancing. San Diego County is listed in the state's second tier, or "substantial" tier, for cities reporting four to seven daily coronavirus cases per 100,000 residents and a positive test rate between 5% and 8%.As of Thursday, San Diego’s case rate is 5.8 and the testing positivity percentage is 3.8%. Prosecutor Sean Daugherty told jurors that Charles Ray Merritt wrote checks totaling more than ,000 on his partner’s QuickBooks account after the family disappeared. The comments came during opening statements in the trial for the alleged murders of Joseph McStay, Summer McStay and their three and four-year-old sons. Prosecutors also say that, while being questioned about the family’s disappearance just days after they went missing, Merritt kept referring to Joseph in the past tense.Outside the courtroom, defense attorney Rajan Maline said Merritt’s livelihood depended on McStay being alive. The McStays disappeared from their Fallbrook home in early February 2010. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 28-year-old man was behind bars Friday on suspicion of stabbing his girlfriend multiple times inside a Colina Del Sol apartment, police said.Dispatchers received multiple calls shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday from neighbors who reported hearing screaming coming from one of the apartments in a complex on 49th Street just south of El Cajon Boulevard, San Diego police Officer Tony Martinez said.Officers responding to the scene found that a woman had been stabbed multiple times and the suspect had fled, Martinez said.The victim, whose age was not immediately available, was taken to a hospital for treatment of her wounds, which were not believed to be life- threatening, the officer said.Around 10:35 p.m. Thursday, the suspect apparently called 911 and told a dispatcher his location, and that he was going to surrender, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.The 28-year-old man, whose name was not immediately available, was taken into custody around 10:45 p.m. on El Cajon Boulevard near El Cerrito Drive, Martinez said. 1053
