LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The Automobile Club of Southern California says it's expecting this year's Thanksgiving holiday to be the busiest in Southern California since 2005, with 4.2 million residents expected to get away for the long weekend. That's a 5.1 percent increase over last year, the AAA says. The vast majority of Southern California travelers -- 3.6 million or 86 percent of all travelers -- will drive to their destinations, a 5.1 percent increase over last year. Another 476,000 Southern Californians are expected to fly, which is an increase of 5.9 percent from the 2017 holiday, while 123,000 will go by other means, such as train, bus or cruise, which will represent a 1.2 percent increase over last year. The Thanksgiving holiday travel period is defined as five days from Wednesday, Nov. 21 to Sunday, Nov. 25, and a holiday trip is defined as one of at least 50 miles from home.RELATED: Find the cheapest gas in your neighborhoodThe all-time record number of Thanksgiving travelers was set in 2005, when 58.6 million nationwide, 6.9 million statewide and nearly 4.3 million in Southern California took holiday trips.”Even with an average 5 percent increase in Thanksgiving holiday airfares over last year, consumer confidence has continued to increase demand for air-travel destinations,'' said Filomena Andre, the Auto Club's vice president for travel products and services.Anaheim is expected to be the third most popular destination for Thanksgiving travelers nationwide, according to AAA's online and travel agency bookings.  A survey of the Auto Club's travel agents reveals the top five destinations for Southern Californians this holiday are: 1) Las Vegas  2) San Diego  3) San Francisco  4) Grand Canyon  5) Anaheim.RELATED: Check traffic conditions for your tripThe transportation analytics firm INRIX, in collaboration with AAA, predicts drivers will experience the greatest amount of congestion Thanksgiving week during the early evening commute period, with travel times starting to increase on Monday. In general, the Auto Club recommends travelers plan an early morning start. If travelers' schedules are flexible, the best days to travel during Thanksgiving week will likely be early today, Friday and Saturday.“No matter when drivers leave for their holiday trips, we remind them, `Don't Drive Intoxicated,'' said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “An increase in traffic requires extra focus on the road ahead and we want drivers to remember texting while driving could lead to the same deadly consequences as alcohol-impaired driving.''RELATED: Check status of a flightAccording to INRIX, the heaviest congestion period in Southern California will be between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, on southbound Interstate 5 between Pacific Coast Highway in south Orange County (Exit 79) and Coast Highway in Oceanside (Exit 54B). The worst time to leave from downtownLos Angeles for LAX via I-110 South over this holiday period, according to INRIX, will be Tuesday, Nov. 20 between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.Southern California gas prices are dropping at a fairly steady pace from their highest levels since 2014 but are expected to still be 50 to 60 cents higher per gallon than during last year' holiday. The Auto Club recommends that travelers use a free app like AAA Mobile to shop virtually for the cheapest gas prices along their route.AAA expects to help 101,000 stranded drivers in California and nearly 360,000 at the roadside across the country during this Thanksgiving holiday.Dead batteries, flat tires and lockouts will be the main reasons for members to call AAA for a roadside rescue. AAA recommends motorists take their vehicle to a trusted repair facility to perform any needed maintenance before heading out. 3811

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A pair of active-duty U.S. Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton were arrested Tuesday morning on a federal grand jury indictment charging one of the Marines and three civilians with conspiring to distribute narcotics -- including oxycodone pills laced with fentanyl -- to civilians and members of the Marine Corps, one of whom suffered a fatal drug overdose in May.Lance Cpls. LOS ANGELES (AP) — California Sen. Dianne Feinstein has endorsed Joe Biden for president, lining up with a fellow centrist Democrat and onetime Senate colleague and snubbing her home-state counterpart, Sen. Kamala Harris. In a statement Tuesday, Feinstein says she has worked closely with the former vice president and Delaware senator and has "seen firsthand his legislative ability, his statesmanship and most importantly his moral fortitude."The endorsement was not unexpected — Feinstein earlier indicated she favored Biden and recently held a fundraiser for him at her San Francisco home. The announcement comes at a time when Harris has been fading in polls and is struggling to regain her earlier momentum in the 2020 contest.Feinstein says Biden "will continue the fight to restore the soul of the nation from the Oval Office." 842

LOS ANGELES — Britney Spears is asking a court to curb her father's control over her life and career. In documents filed Tuesday, Spears asked that her father not return to the role of conservator of her person, which gave him power over her life decisions from 2008 until 2019, when he temporarily stepped aside.According to the BBC, Spears is requesting that her manager, Jodi Montgomery, to permanently remain in charge of her affairs when the conservatorship comes up for an extension on Aug. 22.The issue will be discussed at a Wednesday hearing. The documents give a rare public glimpse of the wishes of the 38-year-old pop superstar. Spears last toured in 2018, and sources say she has no plans to return to performing anytime soon.In recent years, some of Spears' fans have said that they believe the singer was forced into the conservatorship arrangement, prompting a social media campaign to #FreeBritney. An email seeking comment from James Spears' attorney was not immediately returned. 1003

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Anthony Lynn, who is entering his fourth season as head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, disclosed that he contracted the coronavirus. The disclosure came Tuesday night within the first five minutes of an episode of HBO's NFL reality series "Hard Knocks," which is in its 15th season."I can't promise you that you're not going to get infected. ... I got infected," the 51-year-old Lynn told his players during a televised conference call."Be patient, man. Be patient. Fellas, this year is not like any year we've had in the National Football League," Lynn said. "There's going to be chaos. It's going to be change and it's going to come every single day. The goals, the objectives, will not change."I've talked to some people who said they're sick of this virus. What the hell is that supposed to mean? Let me tell you something, you aren't promised next year. You aren't promised tomorrow. What I want to do is I want to limit your exposures."But when that whistle blows, let's go kick somebody's ass and play some football. One team will do this better than the other 31. Trust me. It might as well be us. So, be ready for chaos. Embrace it. Because if we're going to play, the team that handles this thing the best is going to have the best chance of winning that trophy."Lynn said his experience began with a slight cough, followed by body aches. He has since recovered.Lynn said he was watching a golf tournament during which one participant withdrew after testing positive. He said the golfer mentioned suffering from symptoms similar to the ones he felt."If I hadn't been watching the golf event and saw that golfer complaining about back aches and soreness, I never even would have gotten tested," Lynn said. "I never even would have known it and probably got (other) people infected." 1822
