INDIANAPOLIS — After battling the potentially deadly coronavirus, some COVID-19 patients have reported lingering health issues. Everything from mental health issues to difficulty sleeping to cognitive problems.Doctors at Indiana University Health say there are several lasting effects from the novel coronavirus. Some of these symptoms have lasted up to six months after recovering from the virus.Dr. Sikandar Khan said 60% of patients have complained of a low quality of life, in his estimation.“Their stamina is not the same,” he said. “They get easily fatigued and they have a lot of pain in their body.”IU Health established their ICU Survivor Center in May in response to COVID-19, noticing there was a wide variety of lingering effects in their patients.“Even months out from surviving and going through rehab, patients are still dealing with a lot of rehabilitating symptoms,” Khan said. “And so for them, recovery is not just discharging from the hospital and feeling great again, but it is months if not years of recovery.”Patients who are older, he said, with more medical problems will often have longer recoveries. But that’s not always the case with every patient.“We were quite taken aback that even our young patients — our youngest being 22-years of age that we have already seen in our ICU Survivor Center — even those patients were having a lot of difficulty adjusting back to life after COVID,” Khan said.As we learn more about this virus every day, he encourages anyone feeling any lasting symptoms to seek help. In the last week, Pfizer has shipped more than 2.9 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine to locales throughout the US in an effort to get health care workers vaccinated amid a surge of cases nationwide.With Pfizer declaring the initial round of distribution a success, the company says it is awaiting instructions on where to ship its next batch of vaccines.“We have millions more doses sitting in our warehouse but, as of now, we have not received any shipment instructions for additional doses,” Pfizer said in a statement.Pfizer’s vaccine comes in two doses, which means those who have been vaccinated this week will be asked to return in three weeks to receive a booster. Distributing the vaccine is made more arduous due to the extremely cold temperatures required to store the vaccines.Pfizer has been working with UPS and FedEx on distributing vaccines from its warehouses. Pfizer has said that it plans on distributing up to 50 million vaccines doses globally by the end of the year.“Over the last several months, we have activated Pfizer’s extensive manufacturing network, including thousands of highly skilled workers in multiple locations. As a result, Pfizer is manufacturing and readying for release millions of doses each day, and that volume will grow over the coming weeks,” Pfizer said.As health care workers get vaccinated, the shots are slated to make their way to those living and working in assisted living facilities. Major pharmacy chains, such as CVS and Walgreens, are slated to help administer the vaccines to those in assisted living facilities.“With approximately 70 percent of the U.S. population living within three miles of a CVS Pharmacy, we’ll be easy to reach when a vaccine is authorized by the FDA and becomes available in retail settings,” Dr. Troyen Brennan, Chief Medical Officer, CVS Health, said last month. "Our pharmacists, nurse practitioners and pharmacy technicians have been an invaluable community resource since the pandemic began and are ready to play a critical role in the vaccination effort.”Joining the Pfizer vaccine is a similar shot by Moderna, which is in the process of receiving an emergency use authorization from the FDA. INDIANAPOLIS -- Josh McDaniels was all set to clean out his office and travel to Indianapolis to be announced as the Colts' new head coach on Feb. 6. Instead, he talked with New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft and coach Bill Belichick, and had a change of heart that many Colts fans will never forgive. In his first interview since spurning the Colts to return to the Patriots, McDaniels apologized for what happened in a wild 24 hours in early February. "I apologize to anyone who was affected in any way. Indianapolis did a tremendous job," McDaniels told the Boston Globe. "They have a tremendous organization and I was lucky to be considered and I just think once I found out [about his role in New England], I made the right decision for me and my family at this time.’’McDaniels was given no guarantees about taking over for any future positions, such as taking over for Belichick when he retires, but did have his contract adjusted, the Globe reported. An NFL Network report said that McDaniels' agent, Bob LaMonte, told McDaniels that he made "perhaps the biggest professional mistake of his career" by backing out of the job with the Colts. McDaniels also discussed the conversation he had with Colts' GM Chris Ballard when he told him he wouldn't be taking the job. “Chris was tremendous the whole entire time,’’ McDaniels said. “He’s an incredible human being. He’s great at what he does. He’s going to be successful. It was difficult. I had a friendship with him — I still do. ... He’s a guy that I have a lot of respect for and admiration for. He was a big reason why I was interested in that job in the first place. It was as difficult a decision as I’ve ever made professionally. He handled it extremely well, he was a complete professional about it.’’McDaniels said he also called to apologize to the assistant coaches who had been hired after he accepted the Colts job. “I spoke to all of them that night right away, shortly after I talked to Chris,’’ McDaniels said. “They were professionals. Like I said, it wasn’t easy for anybody.
