(KGTV) — Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced billionaire financier accused of sex trafficking, died by suicide in his Lower Manhattan jail cell overnight Saturday, ABC News reports.Epstein, 66, was discovered dead inside a Manhattan Correctional Center jail cell Saturday at about 6:30 a.m., a statement from the Federal Bureau of Prisons read. Fire officials said they received a call about 10 minutes later that he was in cardiac arrest and transported him to New York Downtown Hospital, ABC reported.ABC News cited several law enforcement officials who say Epstein hanged himself.He had been on suicide watch since July 23 when he was found unresponsive in his cell. Bruises were found on his neck but at the time it was unclear if they were self-inflicted or from an assault, ABC News reported.Epstein was set to stand trial on federal charges for allegedly sexually abusing dozens of minor females at his properties in New York and Florida. Some of those charges date back to the early 2000s.He pleaded not guilty to the charges and faced up to 45 years in prison if convicted.Epstein's arrest in July sparked investigations into how authorities handled with his case when he faced similar charges in Florida more than a decade ago. (KGTV) -- The Director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Sunday the agency has given the go-ahead for Pfizer and BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine to be administered, CNN reported.The CDC says the vaccine may be given to those 16 and older.The approval means shots can now be given in the United States, CNN reports. Friday, the FDA granted emergency use authorization for the vaccine.Following the announcement, the first trucks carrying vaccines pulled out of a Michigan manufacturing plant Sunday morning.The Associated Press reported that the initial doses of the vaccine will likely be limited to healthcare workers and those in nursing homes.More than 325,000 doses of the vaccine were making their way to California Sunday as cases continue to spike.So far, the Golden State has seen more than 1,521,000 cases and nearly 21,000 deaths.According to San Diego County officials, the first 28,000 doses of the vaccine will be distributed to Rady Children’s Hospital, UCSD, and the county. 1017

A 20-year-old man with Down syndrome was carrying a toy gun when he was shot dead by Swedish police in Stockholm on Thursday, according to CNN affiliate Expressen.Eric Torell was diagnosed with both autism and Down syndrome and could not verbally communicate, his mother told Expressen.Torell's family reported him missing after he ran away from home, something he had been known to do before. He had a plastic toy gun with him, which "looked a little like a submachine gun" and was given to him as a gift, said his mother, Katarina S?derberg.Early Thursday morning, the police received reports of a person with a gun in the Vasastan district. After arriving on the scene, they shouted at Torell to "lay down his weapon and lie on the ground," an eyewitness told Expressen.Police officers are then believed to have fired at Torell, according to Expressen. Torell was taken to the hospital, but could not be saved.When S?derberg was first notified of her son's death, she said: "There's got to be a mix-up."She was "totally, totally devastated," she told reporters in her home, as she showed them photos of Torell. "I couldn't understand that it was true, I still can't believe that it is true."She and Eric's older sister, Elsa, were nearly paralyzed by the news, S?derberg said. There’s no denying the popularity of marijuana in the United States, with THC and cannabis products approved for medical use in 33 states. Recreational use is supported in 11 states, including California. The election results are echoed in a 2016 Quinnipiac University poll which showed 81 percent of Americans support medical marijuana legalization. California's support of medical marijuana started more than two decades ago when voters passed Proposition 215, the “Compassionate Use Act of 1996.” Laws calling for regulation of medical marijuana were passed in 2015 and 2016, with recreational marijuana becoming legal in 2018. While voters increasingly approve marijuana legalization in various states across the country, the federal government has been slower to grant permission for use.
