(AP) — Facebook has banned an extremist anti-government network loosely associated with the broader “boogaloo” movement, a slang term that supporters use to refer to a second Civil War or a collapse of civilization.But the platform didn’t try to name the group, underscoring the difficulty of grappling with an amorphous network linked to a string of domestic terror plots that appears to obfuscate its existence.Facebook designated the movement as a dangerous organization similar to the Islamic State group and white supremacists, both of which it already bans.Facebook says it is removing groups, accounts and pages when they have a “clear connection to violence or a credible threat to public safety.” The company says it has removed 220 Facebook accounts, 95 Instagram accounts and 106 groups that comprise the “US-based anti-government network.”Additionally, Facebook says it has removed 400 groups and over 100 other pages for violating its “Dangerous Individuals and Organizations” policy, because they hosted similar content as the violent network.“So long as violent movements operate in the physical world, they will seek to exploit digital platforms,” wrote Facebook. “We are stepping up our efforts against this network and know there is still more to do.” 1293

(AP) — The CEO of SeaWorld Entertainment stepped down Monday, just months into his tenure leading the theme park company.Gustavo "Gus" Antorcha resigned from his job as the top executive at SeaWorld as well as his position on the company's board of directors."While I may have a difference of approach, I continue to believe in SeaWorld's strategy, mission, team and prospects," Antorcha said in a statement provided by the Orlando, Florida-based company.Before taking over the helm of SeaWorld in February, Antorcha was a top executive at Carnival Cruise Lines. He succeeded Joel Manby, who unexpectedly departed in 2018 after beginning SeaWorld's pivot away from live animal shows following years of protests and declining attendance.SeaWorld announced the end of its breeding program in March 2016, after years of pressure from animal rights advocates and shifting public opinion about orcas being held in captivity. The protests intensified after the release of the 2013 documentary "Blackfish," which focused on the life of Tilikum, a killer whale responsible for killing trainer Dawn Brancheau when he dragged her into a pool in front of shocked visitors in 2010.The company in the past year, though, has seen a reversal of fortune. Attendance was up 8.6 percent during the 2018 fiscal year, as was revenue. For the first half of this year, attendance was up 1.7 percent."The strategy we have in place is working, and we have made significant progress," said Scott Ross, the chairman of SeaWorld's board of directors. ORLANDO, Fla. -- Officials say a body was found in an Orlando pond Thursday after reports of a possible gator attack on Wednesday.Officials say the body is a female in her late teens, early twenties, possibly Hispanic or black, there was no damage to the body or signs of trauma due to gator bites. The body was recovered at approximately 6:30 a.m. Thursday morning about 15 to 20 yards from where a resident reported seeing someone flailing in the water on Wednesday. The lake is located near Fabian Avenue and Reagan Avenue in Orlando  570

OTAY MESA (CNS) - Authorities Tuesday released the names of a 70-year- old man and the two San Diego police officers who shot him in Otay Valley Regional Park in Otay Mesa when he allegedly pulled out a handgun that turned out to be a replica.Around 6 a.m. Thursday, Officers Jeremy Huff and Filip Perry from the Neighborhood Policing Division were in the park, near the 500 block of Beyer Way, to conduct an outreach and cleanup operation in conjunction with other city agencies when they encountered Carlos Soto, who was staying in an illegal encampment, according to Lt. Andra Brown of the San Diego Police Department."When officers approached the man, he produced a handgun," Brown said. "Officers gave the man commands to get on the ground. The man then reached for the handgun and officers used their services weapons."Soto was taken to a hospital, where he underwent surgery for non-life- threatening wounds, the lieutenant said.No officers were injured and detectives recovered the handgun at the scene, but it turned out to be a replica firearm, Brown said.Huff has been with the department for eight years and Perry has been with the department for nine months.Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call the SDPD's Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293.Anonymous tips can be called in to Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 1347
