BRUCE, Wis. -- A school district in Wisconsin has made the decision to ban backpacks after multiple threats were discovered this week.WEAU-TV in Eau Claire, Wisconsin reports that a BB gun and several knives were located in a backpack at a school in Bruce Wednesday after a student scratched graffiti on a bathroom stall door. That student was taken into custody and has been suspended indefinitely.Earlier in the week, on Monday, there was a separate incident involving 'violent threats' made toward the school, WEAU says.With those threats in mind, Bruce Public Schools announced in a call to parents that backpacks would no longer be allowed at either the middle school or high school."Due the circumstances this week, no backpacks are allowed in middle school and high school as recommended by the sheriff’s department. All athletic gym bags will be searched before entering school," the district said in a Facebook post.The district's superintendent tells WEAU that in addition to the backpack ban, there will be a new entrance procedure when students comes back from spring break as well.  1123

Body camera video released Friday shows YouTube shooter Nasim Aghdam telling Mountain View Police she had no plans for violence hours before she opened fire at the company's San Bruno headquarters.The police recording shows officers identify Aghdam’s car in a Walmart parking lot in Mountain View at about 1:30 a.m. PT on April 3. Less than 12 hours later, Aghdam would open fire in a courtyard at the YouTube campus, injuring three people before turning the gun on herself. Mountain View Police said the license plate showed Aghdam's vehicle was linked to a San Diego missing persons report filed by her family. The Mountain View Police Department (MVPD) said seven record systems were checked during this time, including the Armed and Prohibited Persons System (APPS). The APPS cross-references records of persons who lawfully purchased weapons with the records of those who are prohibited from owning them. The systems checks for Aghdam came back negative, police said.Two officers knocked on the window and woke up Aghdam, who had been sleeping in the back seat. During their conversation, officers asked Aghdam if she knew her family in San Diego had reported her missing.“We didn’t get along together so I left them,” Aghdam said. She explained that she didn’t get along with her father and drove straight to Mountain View from San Diego. Aghdam also said she went to Northern California to start fresh in a place without memories.Officers asked Aghdam if she was taking medication or needed to take medication. She shook her head, “no."During questioning, Aghdam also told officers that she didn’t want to hurt herself or anyone else, and had no plans to commit suicide.Shortly after the police body camera recording ended, one of the officers called Aghdam’s family in San Diego to report that she had been found. Her father, Ismail Aghdam, answered the phone and confirmed that he had not been getting along with his daughter, police said. He thanked officers for the call and hung up.One hour later, the father called Mountain View Police to let them know his daughter had recently become upset about changes on the YouTube platform that had impacted videos she had created on living a vegan lifestyle, police said. The father suggested that may have been one of the reasons Aghdam was in Mountain View.Scripps station KGTV in San Diego talked with Aghdam’s family at their home in Menifee the evening of April 3. They said that they tried to warn authorities before the shooting.The family said she felt she reached the most people through her YouTube page but her relationship with the company turned ugly when YouTube changed its filters and she began to lose followers and viewers."I Googled 'Mountain View' and it was close to YouTube headquarters, and she had a problem with YouTube," her brother said. "So I called that cop again and told him there’s a reason she went all the way from San Diego to there, so she might do something."Mountain View Police said that during their call, Aghdam’s father did not bring up any concerns about his daughter’s behavior, any potential for violence, or a likelihood that she could be a danger to herself or others.RELATED: Female shooters are rare, YouTube attacker joins short list“A review of the incident revealed that our officers followed proper procedure and protocol. In this case, they checked on the welfare of a person who, at the time, was reported missing but whose actions, demeanor, and answers did not present any information which would cause us to believe she would be a threat to herself or others,” said Chief Max Bosel. Bed Bath and Beyond said on Wednesday it plans on closing approximately 200 locations nationwide over the next two years.The news comes after the company temporarily closed 90% of its locations nationwide during the coronavirus pandemic, which resulted in a 77% drop of in-store sales in the spring quarter of 2020.Bed Bath and Beyond said the move to close 200 locations will right-size its real estate portfolio. Bicycle injury accidents have ticked up in the city of San Diego this year, as the city has seen thousands of dockless bikes appear across its neighborhoods since January.New city data shows that there were 130 injury accidents involving bicyclists through May 1, 2018, up from 102 in the same period of 2017.A San Diego Police spokesman said it would take more research to determine whether the uptick is related to dockless bikes. However, the data shows that some parts of the city are seeing fewer incidents, while others are seeing more. Hillcrest, for instance, has seen improvement. By May 1, 2017, there were already seven injury accidents in the heart of the neighborhood. This year there have not been any.However, there has been an increase on Mission Boulevard along the coast, which has no bike lane and can get narrow. In 2017, there was just one injury accident on the boulevard. Through May 1, that number was up to six. Claire Mathena, who lives in Hillcrest, said she can't afford a car but the dockless bikes help her get around."Everyone's in a hurry, I just don't think people are paying attention. I just don't think it has anything to do with the dockless bikes," she said. Meanwhile, others, like Stephan Vance, choose to commute daily by bike. Brayden Harrington, 13, was highlighted moments before Joe Biden accepted the Democratic nomination for president on Thursday at the Democratic National Convention.Despite the stutter, Brayden spoke with confidence about his kinship with the former vice president. Biden said he too had issues with stuttering when speaking growing up.Brayden said he used tips given to him by Biden to help him prepare for his speech Thursday at the virtual convention. “[Joe Biden] told me that we were members of the same club: we stutter. It was really amazing to hear that someone like me became vice president,” Brayden said.Brayden said during the Democratic Convention that he looks up to Biden."Kids like me are counting on you to elect someone we can all look up to, someone who cares, someone who will make our country and the world feel better," Brayden said.Brayden said he met Biden at a campaign event in New Hampshire in the days leading up to the state’s primary.
