DAYTON, Ohio — A Montgomery County Common Pleas judge just ruled that football helmet manufacturer, Riddell, will have to go to court against an Ohio dad who's suing the company over his son's death.According to court documents, Darren Hamblin filed a lawsuit against the company in 2018 claiming they are responsible for his son's untimely death.Hamblin is suing the company on six claims which include wrongful death, fraud, strict liability for design defect, strict liability for manufacturing defect, defects in warning or instructions and defect by failure to conform to representation.Judge Steven Dankof ruled in favor on five of the six claims filed by Hamblin. The claim Dankof nixed was fraud.Cody Hamblin died in 2016. The then 22-year-old suffered a seizure while fishing in a boat, causing him to fall overboard and drown. After Cody died an autopsy was performed and revealed that he had chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE.The lawsuit said Cody Hamblin played youth tackle football from 2001 through 2011, starting at age eight and ending around the age of 18. It alleged he wore Riddell helmets while playing football, believing the equipment would keep him safe from the long-term effects of repeat brain injuries, sub-concussive hits and cumulative brain trauma.A court date for the trial has yet to be announced. 1352

Cities across the country are finding unique ways to encourage visitors to enjoy the sights and sounds of their city. The City of Denver in Colorado has placed five colorful pianos painted by local artists in the middle of downtown area, welcoming people of all ages and skill levels to play. The art installation is called Your Keys to the City."Two times a year, we have artists come and re-paint these pianos and create these vibrant art installations,” says Britt Diehl with Downtown Denver Partnership.City officials hope the initiative brings people together."Denver is very artsy,” says a Denver resident named Angela. “I love seeing people interact together." One visitor from London said he’d never been to a city where there is interaction with instruments.But Denver isn’t the only city drawing crowds. In Nashville, thousands visited the selfie wall created by a local artist to help singer Taylor Swift promote her latest album. In New York City, the latest interactive art installation drawing visitors is called the Vessel. Despite facing a hobbled Golden State Warriors squad on Thursday, the Toronto Raptors were tested by the two-time defending champs Golden State Warriors. The Raptors showed the mettle of a champion, coming back in the fourth quarter to defeat the Warriors 114-110 to win the NBA Finals 4-2. The Raptors nearly made a fatal error in the final 10 seconds after a turnover, but Stephen Curry's 3-point attempt missed. EVANSVILLE, Ind. — An Indiana teen has died after attempting an internet challenge called the “choking challenge,” according to his parents. Mason Bogard’s mother, Joann Bogard, shared a message on Facebook Sunday saying she wanted the information about his death to come from the family. “We’ve learned that Mason attempted a challenge that he saw on social media and it went horribly wrong,” Joann wrote. “The challenge that Mason tried was the choking challenge. The choking challenge is based on the idea that you choke yourself to the point of almost passing out and then stop. It’s supposed to create a type of high. Unfortunately, it has taken the lives of many young people too early and it will take our precious Mason.”Mason was rushed to the hospital where his mother says he remained on life support until they determined he could not survive. “Over the last several days the amazing staff at the Deaconess Hospital has done everything they can to bring Mason back to us. Unfortunately, we will not have the opportunity to experience so many things with our child because of a stupid challenge on social media,” her post read. On Monday, Mason became an organ donor. Joann posted on Facebook that her son would save six people’s lives. “While we are devastated that we will never experience so many things with Mason again, we are able to find some comfort in the fact that Mason will save the lives of others. He would have wanted it this way," she wrote. "He was an extremely generous young man.”She also issued a plea to parents to pay attention to what their children are doing on social media, so that another family doesn’t have to go through the same pain that they have. “Finally, we want to plead with you from the bottom of our hearts ... please pay attention to what your children look at on social media," the mother wrote. "I know our kids always complain that we're being too overprotective but it's ok, it's our job.” 1956
