Dinosaurs are no longer roaming the earth, but their tracks live on. In the foothills on the Front Range of Colorado, a story can be told from pieces of the past left behind.Dinosaur Ridge has been ranked by a panel of esteemed paleontologists as the no. 1 track site in all the U.S. One of those world-renowned paleontologists is Martin Lockley, who has spent his life studying dinosaur tracks.“You're looking at a snapshot of an ancient environment," Lockley says.In an area of just a few hundred square feet, 330 dinosaur tracks have been discovered. However, the land was very different 100 million years ago. Lockley says the giant prehistoric animals weren't a mile high in the Rocky Mountains.They were on the beach at sea level in an environment very similar to present day Gulf of Mexico.“We like to joke and call this beach-front property a 100 million years ago," Lockley says.The soft, wet, sandy land made conditions ideal for preserving tracks."If they're walking on wet sediment, like a beach or a mud flat or the shores of a lake, and it dries out, it becomes hard like concrete," Lockley explains. "And the next time there's a flood washing in more sediment, it will bury those tracks without them being eroded away."Experts believe three different dinosaurs made their mark on this patch of land. Lockley says it's possible they were migrating along what used to be a coast. It's clear the western U.S. was a popular place to be, because there are more than 120 dinosaur track sites from Kansas to Utah. Martin suggests part of the reason is less vegetation in these states means more fossilized rock is exposed.But if there are so many track sites, what makes Dinosaur Ridge the top of all track sites? Executive Director Jeff Lamontagne, with Friends of Dinosaur Ridge, says there was a list of criteria the panel considered."How many tracks there are, the variety of dinosaurs seen in the tracks, the importance of the tracks, the clarity of the tracks, the accessibility and number of visitors," Lamontagne explains.Accessibility is the main reason Dinosaur Ridge has become so highly regarded."It's right outside a major metropolitan area, and there's a major road just a quarter mile from here," he says. "It's easy to see this compared to most other dinosaur track sites in the United States and in the world."People can get so close to the tracks; in some places you can even touch them. Although the tracks have been well-preserved for millions of years, their current exposure to humans and the elements could make them erode over time.Thankfully, with current technology, scientists can scan the surface and re-create it as 3-D permanent record. They also plan to build a cover to protect the land.However, Friends of Dinosaur Ridge believe the hands-on part of the site is important for kids to continue learning about the planet's past. Celebrity chef Michael Symon, a Cleveland native, returned home recently, discussed how his passion for his hometown has served the city well./p>With three Cleveland hot spots—Lola, Mabel's BBQ and B Spot—Symon knows how to cook up a good meal and time.The Cleveland-born chef, restaurateur and TV host is spicing things up again with a new role: Good Morning America's resident chef."I'll be doing for the most part weekly cooking segments and hosting some other cooking segments when people are coming on," he said. Symon's sixth cook book is also now out, but this one's different. The 50-year-old has battled two autoimmune diseases since his 20s—rheumatoid arthritis and external lupus.His new cookbook, Fix it With Food, focuses on recipes to reduce painful inflammation."Before I learned how to control this with my diet, I would wake up in the morning and my hands were like this," he said with almost a clenched fist. "It would take me like an hour of hot water and Aleve to get them going again, and from changing how I eat, about 85% of that pain is gone." Cardinal George Pell, the most senior Vatican official to be convicted of sex abuse to date, has been sentenced to six years in prison for the "callous" assault of two choirboys in the late 1990s.A former senior adviser to Pope Francis, Pell showed no reaction when Chief Judge Peter Kidd handed down his sentence in a hearing broadcast live worldwide on Wednesday from Victoria's County Court in central Melbourne.Pell, 77, was found guilty of one count of sexual penetration of a child and four counts of committing an indecent act with a child last December after a secret five-week trial.Reporting of the trial and verdict was suppressed by the court to avoid prejudicing a second trial, which crown prosecutors abandoned in February after the judge ruled some prosecution evidence couldn't be submitted.On Wednesday, Judge Kidd said Pell's attack on the victims was "breathtakingly arrogant."But the judge said Pell was "not to be made a scapegoat for any failings or perceived failings of the Catholic Church."Pell's legal team has previously announced it will appeal his conviction on three grounds, including that the jury's verdict on all five charges was unreasonable, based on the evidence submitted. The Court of Appeal is due to hear submissions in early June.The sentencingPell has spent the past two weeks in custody and was brought into the court from the Melbourne Assessment Prison (MAP) via an internal entrance, avoiding rows of cameras set up outside the court in central Melbourne.More than 150 people crammed into the courtroom, which had been fitted with extra seats to cope with the demand from those who wanted to be there in person to hear how he'd be punished.Pell sat in the back of the courtroom, surrounded by security officers but uncuffed, as Judge Kidd delivered a detailed explanation of the crimes the cardinal had committed and the reasons for the sentence.After mass one Sunday in the late 1990s, Judge Kidd recounted, Pell caught two choirboys drinking communion wine in the priest's sacristy and one by one forced them to engage in sex acts, despite their sobs and pleas for him to let them go.The first choirboy told how he was forced to perform oral sex on the cardinal, who at the time was Archbishop of Melbourne and a revered figure within the Catholic Church.The boy didn't tell anyone what had happened for years, before finally approached Victoria Police in 2015, almost 20 years after the crime. His statement led to an investigation and a number of historical sex abuse charges being filed against the then-Vatican treasurer.After his conviction, the Vatican launched its own investigation into Pell, which could lead to the cardinal losing his clerical status or being "defrocked," a severe punishment imposed by the Pope and not subject to appeal.The victimsIn his ruling, Judge Kidd was careful not to name the two victims, one of whom gave taped evidence against Pell on a video that was seen only by the jury during the trial. Under Australian law it's illegal to identify sex abuse victims or reveal information that could expose who they are.The first victim has declined to comment publicly but said in a statement released by his lawyer after the ruling that since the attack he had experienced "shame, loneliness (and) depression."He asked that he be left alone and given time to cope with the ongoing criminal process. "The process has been stressful and is not over yet," he said.The second victim died of a heroin overdose a few years ago.The deceased victim's father told CNN that his son had been an outgoing child who played sport and liked singing, a talent that earned him a scholarship to the prestigious boys' school and ultimately an invitation to sing in St. Patrick's Cathedral where the attack took place.Around one year after the assault, he said his son was kicked out of the choir, lost his scholarship and started injecting heroin."He was trying to mask something that had happened to him. He was trying to cover up something that had happened to him, so heinous and so horrible," said his father, who is considering filing a civil case against the church.Pell's supportersPell's defense team had submitted 10 references that attested to Pell's good character.
