LOS ANGELES (AP) — Deputies arrested a 13-year-old boy and seized a semi-automatic rifle after he threatened to shoot other students and staff at a Los Angeles-area middle school, authorities said Friday.In a separate case, a boy at another school was taken into custody involving a planned shooting.The arrests came barely a week after deputies were frantically summoned to a high school in Santa Clarita, where a 16-year-old boy killed two fellow students and took his own life.Since then, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has investigated at least 30 school threats, spokesman Sgt. LOS ANGELES (CNS) - County public health officials said have ordered the continued closure of LA Apparel's manufacturing facilities in South Los Angeles, announcing that more than 300 workers have been confirmed with the coronavirus and four have died.The company's manufacturing complex on 59th Street was originally closed June 27 after inspectors found "flagrant" violations of infection- control protocols and the company "failed to cooperate" with the county's investigation of what were then about 150 total infections.According to the county Department of Public Health, an official order was issued Thursday mandating the "continuous closure" of the facility.Officials with LA Apparel could not be reached for comment Friday when county officials announced the extended closure."The death of four dedicated garment workers is heartbreaking and tragic," public health director Barbara Ferrer said in a statement. "Business owners and operators have a corporate, moral and social responsibility to their employees and their families to provide a safe work environment that adheres to all of the health officer directives -- this responsibility is important, now more than ever, as we continue to fight this deadly virus."Public health officials said Friday three workers from the plant died in early June, and one more died this month. The agency began investigating conditions at the plant on June 19 after being notified by a "concerned health care provider."According to the department, investigators asked the company for a list of all employees so it could be compared with testing results, but the company failed to provide it.In late June, inspectors found violations at the facility of distancing requirements and infection-control protocols, according to the department, noting that the company was using cardboard as a barrier between workers.On July 4, the company sent the department an "incomplete list" of employees, and by then 198 positive cases had been reported. "I thought there was a fight in the stands."Lauer kept pitching, throwing two strikes in the midst of a strong earthquake that rattled the stadium during San Diego's 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night."Not many people can say they threw a strike during an earthquake," Lauer said. White said in a statement.He noted that it was critical to provide as much advance notice as possible to students and their families, as the CSU system had done in announcing its moves toward primarily virtual instruction as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.The CSU system, which locally includes CSU San Marcos and San Diego State University, announced in mid-March that its campuses would immediately transition in-person operations to a virtual mode, with the chancellor saying then that "the health and well-being of our students and employees is always a foremost priority."In September, White announced that CSU -- which held primarily virtual courses during the fall term -- would continue with predominantly online instruction for the academic term beginning in January."We are approaching planning for the 2021 fall term with the goal of having the majority of our on-campus experiences returning," said CSU Chancellor-select Joseph I.
