SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Several grocery stores are implementing special shopping hours to make sure those most vulnerable to the coronavirus pandemic get supplies without worry.Target, Whole Foods, Albertsons, and others have started opening an hour early to certain groups so they can shop without stress.Here's a list of where those at-risk populations can shop before the general public:COSTCO: Will open special hours for those 60 and up effective on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8-9 a.m. No guests will be admitted.Target: Opening each Wednesday to "vulnerable guests," including the elderly and those with underlying health concerns, an hour early.Walmart: Walmart will offer hour-long senior shopping every Tuesday from March 24 through April 28, for customers aged 60 and older. This will start one hour before the store opens, so check location hours before going. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — State officials hope California’s new 10 p.m. stay-at-home order will slow the spread of COVID-19, otherwise, another 10,000 San Diegans are projected to contract the virus in the next 10 days.That’s according to a new county-by-county forecast from Facebook, which rolled out the prediction software last month.Facebook projects L.A. County will see the second-largest increase in cases in the country by November 30. San Diego County is projected to add the 15th most cases, reaching a total of 78,594 infections by Nov. 30.The two-week forecast was released before Governor Gavin Newsom announced enhanced restrictions. Facebook will release a new two-week forecast next week.“Many other forecasts around the world are only predicting caseload at a country or state level,” said Laura McGorman with Facebook’s Data for Good team. “We’re trying to be much more local in this approach because we know so much of the COVID-19 response is in fact local.”McGorman said the forecast tool could help county and state officials plan hospital bed space, ICU capacity, ventilators and other critical supplies.The map is powered by artificial intelligence that draws on seven kinds of data. They use outside metrics like confirmed cases, doctor visits and the weather combined with information Facebook collects like a survey of people’s symptoms and GPS location data.The location data helps gauge whether people are staying home and isolating or circulating among the community, according to McGorman.Facebook only pulls data from users who opt in and no, they’re not reading your posts. All of the information, which is aggregated to the county or state level to protect privacy, is available for the public to download.The tech giant initially started Data for Good three years ago to help with disaster-relief projects, McGorman said. Among other applications, their location data can quickly predict if evacuations are working.“Typically, groups like the Red Cross have to knock door-to-door to see if people are still home, or wait for people to show up at shelters to see if they’ve gotten out of harm’s way,” she said.The software has also been used to detect network outages when a hurricane knocks out cellphone towers, she said.Facebook’s COVID-19 mapping tools have been used to inform policymakers in New York and Mexico, and the data has helped analyze the effectiveness of stay-at-home orders in California, McGorman said. 2457

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego State University officials announced Monday plans for healing circles after reports of several people calling out racial slurs toward the Black Resource Center on campus. A racially diverse group of men was in a vehicle Friday when they yelled slurs at the building on Lindo Paseo, a witness told 10News. “SDSU does not tolerate instances of hatred, racism or discrimination,” said university President Adela de la Torre, interim Vice President for Student Affairs Christy Samarkos, and Chief Diversity Officer J. Luke Wood in a statement. “At SDSU, diversity and inclusion are core values we uphold, and the university is deeply committed to supporting a campus climate and environment that is welcoming and safe, no matter a person’s background or experience. We do not accept hate-driven acts.” Campus officials organized three healing circles to be held on campus this week. Counseling and psychological services team members are also available. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego State University set a new record for its Aztec Rock Hunger annual food drive, collecting 590,503 pounds of food from Sept. 28 through Oct. 21, which the school will now donate to the Jacobs & Cushman Food Bank. The amount exceeds last years total of 588,915 pounds, and includes both non-perishable foods and  donations, which the school collected at the SDSU bookstore, athletic events, SDSU Dining locations and Aztec Proud events. Jim Flores, CEO of the Jacobs and Cushman San Diego Food Bank, said the partnership with the school, which has raised more than two million pounds of food since its inception in 2008, has been beneficial."We are very grateful to the students, faculty and administration at San Diego State University for supporting the food bank," Flores said. "We are currently feeding more than 37,000 people every month in communities throughout the county, including thousands of students through our College Hunger-relief Program." Aztecs Rock Hunger was started by Associated Students (A.S.) which works alongside multiple campus groups, including SDSU Athletics and the College Area Business District. Christian Onwuka, A.S. vice president of financial affairs, said the partnership is a source of pride. "It has been amazing to see so many different divisions and facets of campus come together and give their all toward this campaign fighting food insecurity," he said. Not all of the donations will go to the food bank, however. 20 percent of the food remaining on campus will go towards helping SDSU's Economic Crisis Response Team (ECRT). The ECRT works to prevent food insecurity for students on campus, as well as provide emergency support for those in a sudden economic crisis.  1894
