The planes really needed that same technology.“We realized that airlines don’t have a good way to keep the planes sanitary and we thought maybe there was a way we could apply UV-C there,” Kreitenberg said.So, they re-designed it into the size of a beverage cart and decided to call it the "Germ Falcon." That was in 2014.“And (to) make it fit like a puzzle in the cabin, these wings go over the seats and under the overhead bins and the lights shine up and down and out toward the windows and you can push it up and down the aisle and disinfect all the commonly touched surfaces,” Kreitenberg said.It took them a while to make it fit all the different types and styles of planes. Back then, someone asked Kreitenberg what it would take for the business to take off.“My answer was I’m really not rooting for a pandemic but the experts think we’re overdue for one and we want to work with the airlines to get out in front of it we’re prepared and hopefully we can limit the impact.,” Kreitenberg said.The Kreitenbergs then decided to use it in hospitals. They were in the process of making it work for healthcare when the pandemic he predicted happened.“And then COVID hit and the airlines were in huge demand for our Germ Falcon product line and that’s what this company started on and airlines played a huge role in the way disease spreads around the world and we’re seeing that today,” Kreitenberg said.They started getting flooded with requests from airlines. Which is where Honeywell comes in. They're now partners with the Kreitenbergs and own the manufacturing and sales rights.“We’re taking proven hospital technology that’s been utilized for decades to clean hospitals and we’re now taking that through this product into the aerospace environment and giving the airlines a tool that’s been proven for reducing viruses for years,” Kreitenberg said.Brian Wenig, a general manager within Honeywell's Phoenix based Aerospace component says they're working to get passengers back in the air. The Ultraviolet Cleaning System cleans the aircraft in under 10 minutes.“It has the ability to not only clean the seats and high touch surfaces in the cabin, it also has the ability to clean the aircraft lavatories and the galleys where the crews are working,” Wenig said.They're already in negotiations with airlines and international demos are coming soon. They plan to have 50 available by the end of July and manufacturing 100 per month through the summer. The airlines say one machine can serve five gates to meet the turnaround times between takeoff and landing.The Kreitenbergs say NASA is next. (KGTV) — Cardiff Elementary School in Encinitas must pay 0,000 just so it can resume a project to modernize its campus.The payment is part of a settlement to a group that sued the district over a project to rebuild much of the school, which had upwards of 60-year-old buildings.In 2016, voters approved a million bond measure authorizing the project. The group that sued, Save the Park and Build the School, challenged the plan's environmental impact report and its plan to build a multipurpose facility on part of a grassy area of district property that doubles as a public park in off hours. Late last year, a judge ruled in the group's favor and issued an order to halt work on the project. This week, the school and the group reached a settlement to allow campus construction to resume, and put the multipurpose center back into a federal approval process because it involves the National Park Service. The group got 0,000 for legal fees. "It was a flex and it cost our kids and the taxpayers 0,000 to bring us right back to where we were in December," said Morgan Gates, a parent at the school. Eleanor Musick, who heads the group, said the park is cherished and one of the only open spaces nearby. If a project is out of compliance with [The California Environment Quality Act] it must stop," Musick said. ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) -- Video from a witness shows a driver slamming into a crowd outside an Encinitas bar early Sunday morning. In the video, a U-Haul van can be seen accelerating onto a sidewalk. Video shows pedestrians leaping out of the way before the vehicle crashes into the crowd. In a Monday news release, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said one person is in an intensive care unit while another is undergoing surgery with serious injuries following the crash. The department says a 24-year-old victim is in an intensive care unit while a 25-year-old is in surgery with serious injuries. All three of the victims were struck when the suspect, Christian Davis, 28, reportedly drove the van onto a sidewalk outside The Saloon Bar around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Two others received minor injuries when they detained Davis outside the bar. Deputies say Davis was asked to leave the bar because he was too intoxicated. After complying with the request, deputies say Davis got into the van, intentionally driving it onto the sidewalk. Davis was later arrested and is being charged with three counts of attempted murder and one count of attempted escape with force. Davis is scheduled to be arraigned in Vista on March 3. (KGTV) - Residents of a small mobile home park across the street from the proposed Newland Sierra development, Measure B on the March ballot, say they fear a "yes" vote to approve the project could do irreparable damage to their community.Deer Springs Oaks is made up of 32 mobile homes off Deer Springs Road, directly across the street from the Newland Sierra site. That plan, if voters approve, would allow for around 2,100 new homes, along with open space and infrastructure changes. Residents of Deer Springs Oaks, funded by the nearby Golden Door Spa, have been making the case to voters that Measure B will make a bad traffic situation worse and create a dangerous trap in a wildfire zone. But they also worry that the project could have a more direct impact on their homes. The building of Newland Sierra would require the widening of Deer Springs Road, as well as changes to the nearby interchange with I-15. While Newland Sierra developers say these will not affect the mobile home park, the residents say they are not getting any guarantees from Newland Sierra, the County, or CalTrans."We don't know what they're going to do, how they're going to do it," said resident Georgeann Higgins. "They're so arrogant as to not inform us. These are our homes." Lawyers representing many of the residents obtained plans for some of the alternatives being considered by CalTrans. At least two would cause major changes to Deer Springs Oaks, including the possibility of residents losing property and a road being moved to go through the center of the complex."They impact the park big time," said resident Tony Eason. "They would destroy the park."A spokesperson from Newland Sierra told 10News that the maps being used by the residents are outdated. He sent 10News at statement: “This is just another desperate attempt by the Golden Door Spa and its army of lawyers to try to confuse and scare voters. This alternative was one of more than a dozen road improvement alternatives that was studied. It was ultimately rejected by CalTrans and is no longer an option. ESCONDIDO (CNS) - A 47-year-old Escondido man was killed when he lost control of his pickup truck and slammed head-on into a car in Escondido, seriously injuring its driver, authorities said Friday.The crash happened shortly before 2:05 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Del Dios and Mount Israel roads, California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Smale said.A 47-year-old man behind the wheel of a 2006 Toyota Tundra pickup was heading eastbound at a high speed on Del Dios Road -- which was slick because of rain -- when he lost control of the pickup at a left-hand curve in the road and the truck began to spin, Smale said.The truck rotated once counterclockwise and crossed over into the opposite lane of traffic, where the front of the truck struck the front of a 2013 Subaru Crosstrek sedan with a 27-year-old woman from Encinitas behind the wheel, the officer said.The Toyota driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene, Smale said. The man's name was withheld pending family notification.The Subaru driver was taken to Palomar Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries, which were not believed to be life-threatening, he said.Intoxication was not believed to have been a factor in the crash. 1269
