SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego County Board of Supervisors has voted to support the Trump administration’s lawsuit against California’s sanctuary laws.The board voted 3-1 Tuesday afternoon to support the lawsuit. The board directed that the County’s attorney to file an amicus brief supporting the federal lawsuit.The deadline to file a brief passed, so Chairwoman Kristin Gaspar said the earliest the county can file a brief is if the ruling is appealed to a higher court.RELATED: Escondido City Council votes to support sanctuary policy lawsuitSupervisor Greg Cox was the only one opposed to supporting the lawsuit. SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Elected officials, community activists, and law enforcement came together Monday to launch a new "Peace Movement" with the ambitious goal of ending violence in San Diego. Organized by District 4 City Councilmember Monica Montgomery, the goal is to find solutions to address the underlying root causes of violence and build trust between police and the communities they protect."It doesn't happen overnight," Montgomery told 10News. "It's continued understanding. It's getting in places where we're uncomfortable. It's listening to things that maybe we don't agree with all the time. Those are the things that will help us understand each other."San Diego Police Department chief David Nisleit said he's on board with the effort, specifically calling on people in communities beset by crime to come forward when they have information that could help investigators bring perpetrators to justice. Some community members are reticent to contact police. "We'll get there. There's no doubt in my mind we'll get there," Nisleit told 10News. "I'm going to focus on this as a positive step. We'll build those community partnerships. We'll work together. We're already doing that, we're just going to do it on a larger scale."Another speaker at Monday's press conference launching the initiative was Bishop Cornelius Bowser. As a former gang member himself, Bowser has tried to take a leadership goal in bridging the divide between residents and law enforcement. "I'm willing to lead the way and take those risks," Bower said. "But the struggle with me is when I try to do that, I need law enforcement to understand this and get my back. I need the community to understand this and get my back."Bowser says building relationships with both sides means walking a fine line, as the very appearance of a strong relationship with either side could encourage distrust from the other. He says the important thing is having the right people at the table having real conversations. He also believes developing trust will be a slow process. "You have to get one person at a time. You're not going to be able to go into a meeting and change 100 people in a meeting."One part of the new "Peace Movement" initiative is getting rid of gang graffiti. SAN DIEGO (KGVT) -- Parents of San Diego Unified School District students will hold a demonstration Tuesday with a goal for the school district to return to full-time, in-person education as soon as possible.Parent and family therapist Gina Smith said she started the group called "Reopen SDUSD" because she is frustrated that other San Diego County districts have set reopening dates, and many private schools are already open. The group has already started a petition which has more than 650 signatures."What sparked the fire is that other schools have reopening plans within weeks and San Diego Unifed has been silent," Smith said.San Diego Unified has not released any definitive dates or a timeline for reopening.Currently, the district is reporting a projected loss of 2,474 students. Two out of every three un-enrolled students are kindergartners. Enrolling children into kindergarten is not mandatory in the state of California.The district has a meeting scheduled for Tuesday evening, and before that meeting, hundreds of parents are expected to rally over their concerns about distance learning. Some parents say they're concerned about the mental health impact distance learning is having on their children."The isolation and lack of social interaction is a huge part that many children as young as five are experiencing depressive symptoms", Smith said. A new study by GasBuddy claims the Golden State also has some of the most aggressive drivers.According to the study, California ranks number one for most aggressive drivers followed by Connecticut and Georgia.The study claims those aggressive habits are also costing Californians cold hard cash. SAN DIEGO, California — Two new charges have been filed in the case against a La Jolla restaurant owner accused of sexually assaulting multiple women.Authorities say five victims have now come forward claiming Daniel Dorado, 59, sexually assaulted them.The fifth victim came forward after last week’s arraignment, telling the San Diego Police Department about an incident that happened in 2014.Prosecutors say the assaults took place over a nine-year period beginning in 2009 and ending in January of 2018.Dorado pleaded not guilty earlier in April to 14 counts brought against him, including rape of an unconscious person.Dorado was arrested in March. One of his accusers claimed she was drugged and raped by Dorado three years ago at his Bird Rock-area restaurant Voce del Mare.Prosecutors in the case say two victims were sexually assaulted at the restaurant while three others were assaulted elsewhere.
