Former boxing champion Floyd Mayweather has offered to pay for George Floyd’s funeral and memorial services, and the family has accepted the offer. Mayweather personally has been in touch with the family, according to Leonard Ellerbe, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions. In its heyday, this body of water was called the Southern California Riviera, attracting people from across the country.Decades later, this desert oasis is now dying. “It smells like death you know,” said one local man. “You can tell something died.”The Salton Sea is stinking and shrinking and what’s left is a being called a major health hazard.“The Salton Sea has gone to hell if you ask me,” another man said. “We used to go fishing there before and you can’t go fishing there anymore because there’s nothing to fish for because it’s polluted.”The sea is polluted with sewage, heavy metals and agricultural run off.With no natural run off and not much rain coming in, the Salton Sea has been decaying for decades. Experts say now the conditions are getting worse and the problems go well past county lines. “All of that dust on windy days gets aerosolized and people can inhale it for hundreds of miles actually,” said Sam J. Weiss, MD of Eisenhower Health in Palm Desert, Ca. Weiss says Imperial County’s air quality is some of the worst in the state.And as the Salton Sea dries up, more dangerous dust goes into the air and ultimately gets into people’s lungs. “If it becomes drier and drier and saltier and saltier we’ll see more and more problems unless there’s remediation of the sea,” Weiss said. In an attempt to slow down this problem, the Imperial Irrigation District dug trenches to suppress the dust.“IID models all of our project areas to control the most dust as possible,” said Jessica Humes of the Imperial Irrigation District. According to the NFPA, nearly 160 house fires per year are sparked by Christmas trees. These fires caused an average of three deaths, 15 injuries, and million in direct property damage annually, the NFPA said. A plurality of Christmas tree fires from 2013 through 2017, roughly 44 percent, were caused by electrical distribution or lighting within the tree. Another 25 percent of Christmas tree fires were from a heat source, such as a candle, being too close to a tree. The NFPA also found that 21 percent of Christmas tree fires were intentionally set. In 2017, the National Institute of Science and Technology released a video showing the fire danger a tree not watered can pose. The video showed that a spark to a dry tree could ignite an entire tree within several seconds, engulfing an entire room seconds later. A watered tree failed to ignite in the same fashion. House lawmakers have passed a bill that makes animal cruelty a federal felony.The so- called "PACT Act" specifically bans crushing, burning, drowning and impaling animals, among other things.It would also allow officials to go after suspected animal abusers who cross state lines.But according to its co-sponsor, U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., it would also close a big loophole.His office says the bill would specifically ban animal cruelty recorded on video.Previous laws have de-legalized creating and selling those videos, but not the acts of cruelty in them.Another co-sponsor of the bill, U.S. Rep. Ted Deutch, D-Fla., says the legislation sends a clear message that our society does not accept animal cruelty.Violations of the bill could lead to prison for up to seven years. 796

The Michigan mothers says the venue ultimately did right by her but it wasn't until after the concert. She hopes other businesses will educate themselves so other mothers won't have the same experience. “I had called before the Ariana Grande concert to make sure that my breast pump would be able to be brought into the facility," Kate Aulette said. "‘Absolutely, it’s a medical device. You’ll have no problems bringing it in.’"But that turned out not to be the case after the 2017 bombing attack at one of Grande's concerts in Manchester, England. Twenty-two people were killed and more than 100 people were injured. “The gentleman had said, ‘No. We’re not going to allow you to bring that in. You would need to have your baby with you if you wanted to bring that device in,’ " Aulette said. "So that really threw me off because that was the whole reason I was bringing my pump is because I wasn’t bringing my daughter with me to the concert.”Aulette said she returned to the bus that drove her to the concert from Howell, Michigan, and pumped her milk.
