John Lewis.The board voted Thursday to rename Robert E. Lee High School in Springfield, Virginia — a Washington, D.C. suburb — after the late congressman and civil rights leader.A news release posted on the school district's website says the new name will be effective for the 2020-21 school year."Rep. Lewis was a champion of the Civil Rights movement, and our Board strongly believes this is an appropriate tribute to an individual who is a true American hero," School Board Chair Ricardy Anderson said in a statement. "We will also honor his life's work by continuing to promote equity, justice, tolerance and service in the work that we do.""The name Robert E. Lee is forever connected to the Confederacy, and Confederate values are ones that do not align with our community," said Tamara Derenak Kaufax, a board member representing the high school's district. "Our schools must be places where all students, staff, and members of the community feel safe and supported. DeSantis announced Friday in his press conference in St. Petersburg that restaurants and select businesses can operate at full capacity.Phase 3 of Gov. DeSantis' "SAFE. SMART. STEP-BY-STEP PLAN" ensures Floridians that restaurants can reopen at a minimum 50% capacity if the local government prohibits them from reopening at full capacity.“Everybody has an opportunity and the right to work. Every business has the right to operate,” said Gov. DeSantis said.With Phase 3, Gov. DeSantis said he will no longer place limitations on businesses due to coronavirus concerns."There will not be limitations from the state of Florida," Gov. DeSantis said.The Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association (FRLA) President and CEO Carol Dover said the pandemic has caused 336,000 people in the industry to lose their jobs.“The effects on the local and state economy have been significant. Several people were hurt in an "inmate-on-inmate" disturbance at CoreCivic's Red Rock Correctional Facility in Eloy, Arizona on Sunday morning.Twelve inmates were taken to outside medical facilities for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, and one staff member was treated and released for minor injuries sustained in the incident, according to Jonathan Burns, CoreCivic's Director of Public Affairs.Burns says the disturbance happened just after 8:30 a.m. local time.The facility has been secured and all inmates and staff are accounted for, Burns said. CoreCivic is working with the Arizona Department of Corrections and local law enforcement as they continue to investigate.   724
