An F-16 fighter jet intercepted a plane that was flying in a restricted area during President Trump's rally in Bullhead City, Arizona, Wednesday afternoon.North American Aerospace Defense Command officials say the plane was intercepted around 2 p.m. after officials noticed it had entered the Temporary Flight Restriction area surrounding Bullhead City.Officials say the violating aircraft did not respond to initial intercept procedures, but established radio communications after NORAD aircraft deployed signal flares.Authorities say the aircraft was escorted out of the restricted area by the F-16 without further incident. 634

Amid the political gridlock in Washington, it’s one of the rare instances of a bill getting marshaled forward in a bipartisan fashion.It’s called “The Crisis Stabilization and Community Reentry Act of 2020,” which recently passed the U.S. Senate. At its core, it would help provide mental health services for people in the criminal justice system who don’t usually get it.“It tries to deal with a fundamental problem we have in this country, that too many people with mental illness end up in jails and prisons,” said Chuck Ingoglia, CEO of the National Council for Behavioral Health. “I've had the opportunity to go around the country and to talk to local sheriffs and they understand that people with mental illness don't belong in their facilities, don’t do well in their facilities.”In fact, from 2006 to 2016, in jails around the country, suicide was the leading single cause of death. Yet, the problem goes beyond prison walls.It can be a lonely road for inmates after they have served their time and are released back into the community. Part of what the bill hopes to address is what happens with their mental health since many of them report they don’t have health insurance to get their needed medication.About 80 percent of inmates released lack health insurance, and those that do have it, often wait an average of 48 days to get an appointment at a behavioral clinic.To fill in that gap, among other things, the bill would allocate million a year for five years towards programs that strengthen the link between law enforcement and community mental health providers.“Unfortunately, in many places, there is no alternative,” Ingoglia said. “This bill, these new grant programs that it's seeking to create, would try to give more options to communities.”It’s a bill whose future now lies in the hands of the U.S. House of Representatives. 1861

An alligator was spotted trying to climb the fence at Lely High School in Naples, Florida, Monday morning.Ray Simonsen, a.k.a "Ray the Trapper," was called in to get it.“Gators can climb. That’s why you can find them wherever, whenever," said Simonsen.Simonsen said he wasn’t surprised by what the gator was doing, but by how big it was.“I received a call that there was a 4-foot gator on property. I roll up and I get a big grin on my face, because that 4-foot was 7-foot 6-and-a-half-inch," said Simonsen.But that alligator Simonsen caught wasn’t the only one that got somewhere it didn’t belong on Monday. According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies had to respond to the Estero Parc Apartments, because an alligator actually got inside the building.The sheriff’s office posted a picture to Facebook, saying people were in the elevator when the doors opened, and a small gator was there to greet them. 923

As a variant strain of the coronavirus spreads through the United Kingdom, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, said in an interview on ABC News on Tuesday that it’s possible the variant is in the US."That's certainly possible I mean, when you have this amount of spread within a place like the UK, that you really need to assume that it's here already, and certainly is not the dominant strain, but I would not be surprised at all if it is already here," said Fauci on ABC News.The variant strain has fueled lockdowns and fears in the UK. It also has prompted much of the world to cut off travel to the UK. Health officials fear that the variant strain spreads more easily.The United States has not cut travel between the two countries. Fauci does not expect that to be necessary.“That's not that's not really in the cards right now, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the requirement of testing is something that is being actively considered right now," Fauci said.The CDC reminded the public that viruses often mutate. The CDC added that it’s investigating why this version differs from the disease caused by other versions that are currently circulating.As travel remains permitted between the two nations, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo criticized officials for not cutting off travel. Right now today,” Cuomo said. “One-hundred twenty countries require a test. We don't. Other European countries have done a ban. We haven't. Be one of the 120 countries that requires a test before you get on a plane to come to the U.S. This is the mistake we made."The United Kingdom has implemented some of its strongest lockdowns since the onset of the pandemic in recent days.
