(KGTV) - While Amazon customers have it fairly easy when it comes to returning items, the tech giant is only willing to go so far. Some Amazon customers have received emails notifying them they have been banned and cannot create a new account due to the number of returns they have made, according to the Wall Street Journal.Former Amazon managers told the WSJ they close accounts over activities including "requesting too many refunds" or "sending back the wrong items or violating other rules.""We have closed this account because you have consistently returned a large number of your orders. While we expect the occasional problem with an order, we cannot continue to accept returns at this rate," a 2015 email to an Amazon customer read.Others told the paper that Amazon asked them about their returns, despite providing a reason previously on the website. Some said they were not notified of the reasoning behind their canceled account until they reached out to a customer service representative.Amazon has yet to issue a statement regarding how it handles frequent returns. 1086

(KSTU) -- A woman who disappeared in Utah's Zion National Park before being found 12 days later is reportedly being investigated for fraud in connection to her disappearance. The Salt Lake Tribune reported the Washington County Sheriff's Office is looking into Holly Courtier's story after accounts of her rescue and how she survived with no food or water raised questions within the department. In the days following the rescue, Courtier's daughter -- who lives in San Diego -- said her mother hit her head and became disoriented in the park; while her sister, Jaime Strong, said Holly never drank from a nearby river because it was possibly toxic.Hearing the accounts after Courtier was able to leave Zion National Park with minimal assistance raised red flags to officials, according to a statement released by the Sheriff's Office."These inconsistencies raised some questions as to the authenticity of the events as reported to law enforcement," said Sheriff Cory C. Pulsipher in the statement. The Washington County Sheriff's Office says it has received "numerous tips" claiming Courtier made up the story as a way to make money through a GoFundMe account -- a theory that does not check out with the sheriff."At this point in the investigation, there has been no evidence to support the theory that the incident was committed intentionally as an effort to achieve financial gain."RELATED COVERAGE:-- San Diego woman’s mother missing in Zion National Park-- Hiker who disappeared in Zion National Park found-- Hiker's rescue leaves unanswered questions 1562

(KGTV) - There is a hit-and-run crash every minute in the United States, according to a new report from the American Automobile Association. And in 2016, a record 2,049 people died in one of them - mainly bicyclists and pedestrians. The figure is a 60 percent increase since 2009, according to AAA."Whether you're a bicyclist or a pedestrian, and a vehicle comes out of nowhere and you're involved in an incident with it, and then for the driver to take off. It's not only frustrating, it's very sad that people will do this," said Doug Shupe, a spokesman for the AAA. RELATED: California has the most aggressive drivers, study saysThe Auto Club is once again calling for drivers to be alert on the road - especially with distractions and more people out during the summer months.Hit-and-runs range from fender benders in a parking lot to fatal crashes. The penalties for not stopping are stiff. In California, drivers who don't pull over to report property damage face up to six months in jail and a one thousand dollar fine. And it goes up from there. Shupe warned that it's hard to get away these days with so many smartphones and surveillance cameras around. He added that alcohol often plays a factor in the decision to drive away. The AAA recommends drivers be aware, be cautious, be patient, and be vigilant while on the road. 1369

(KGTV) -- SeaWorld continues to feel the financial strain of the COVID-19 pandemic, reporting a dramatic loss in revenue on Monday.SeaWorld Entertainment, Inc. revealed troubling earnings numbers from the second quarter and first six months of 2020, including revenue down 96 percent compared to the same time last year. When it comes to attendance, SeaWorld parks saw only 300,000 guests during the second quarter of this year -- a drop of 6.2 million from Q2 in 2019.According to the earnings report, SeaWorld had 6 million in cash/cash equivalents as of June 30. The company had 0 million on April 30.The pandemic forced the closure of the company’s parks, including SeaWorld San Diego, for several months, leading to a decline of 7.2 million guests from the first six months of 2019, the company stated.Following the park closures earlier this year, SeaWorld was forced to furlough 90 percent of its staff.A phased reopening of some parks began in early June, and overall, a total of seven parks were open for 98 operating days compared with all 12 parks open for 861 days during the second quarter of 2019. The reopened parks operated at limited capacity, limited hours and/or limited days.As for SeaWorld San Diego park, an opening date has not been set. SeaWorld said it is "in regular contact with state and local authorities and sincerely looks forward to opening in San Diego and welcoming back its guests as soon as it's safe and permitted to do so."The company said it also does not plan on opening the Aquatica waterpark in Chula Vista this year.SeaWorld Entertainment’s interim CEO Marc Swanson said in the earnings report: "I am extremely proud of our team's performance during this unprecedented and challenging time. Together, we have taken significant actions to reduce our costs, carefully manage our cash flows, fortify our balance sheet and liquidity position, implement enhanced health and safety protocols for our employees, guests and animals and successfully re-open and welcome guests back to nine of our twelve parks."Not all the news for SeaWorld was bad in the second quarter, as the company “helped rescue over 430 animals and surpassed 37,200 total rescues over its history.”City News Service contributed to this report 2263
