KILLEEN, Texas – It’s been nearly two months since a Fort Hood soldier went missing and now the reward for information about the 20-year-old’s disappearance has been doubled to ,000.Private First Class Vanessa Guillen was last seen on April 22 between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in the parking lot of her Regimental Engineer Squadron Headquarters at the U.S. Army base in Killeen, Texas, according to a press release from the Army Criminal Investigation Command (CID).She hasn’t been seen or heard from since. The Army says Guillen’s car and room key, identification car, and wallet were later found in the armory room where she was working earlier in the day.Officials say Guillen was last seen wearing a black t-shirt and purple fitness-type pants. She’s described as being 5 feet 2 inches tall, about 126 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.Investigators say they have no credible information or report at this time that Guillen was sexually assaulted or that the case is in any way connected to the disappearance of Private Second Class Gregory Wedel-Morales, who was last seen on Aug. 19, 2019 while driving his car in Killeen. Both allegations have been circulated online.More than 150 people have been interviewed in the investigation and the Army says its working closely with multiple law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, to help bring Guillen home. The Army and Fort Hood are still seeking the public’s help to solve the case. Anyone with information about Guillen’s whereabouts is asked to contact Army CID Special Agents at 254-287-2722 or the Military Police Desk at 254-288-1170. Anonymous tips can also be submitted here.“We are completely committed to finding Vanessa and aggressively going after every single piece of credible information and every lead in this investigation,” said Chris Grey, spokesman for Army CID. “We will not stop until we find Vanessa.”Guillen’s mother, Gloria, told NBC News that she wants someone from outside the base to investigate her daughter’s disappearance.“I can’t bear anymore, not one day more because I’m not sleeping and I’m in bad health,” Gloria said to NBC.The Army CID said Monday that it was offering a reward of up to ,000 for credible information leading to the whereabouts of Guillen. And then on Tuesday, the president of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) announced that the group would match the ,000, bringing the reward to ,000, KXXV reports. 2455

Joe Biden’s search for a running mate is entering a second round of vetting for a dwindling list of potential vice presidential nominees, with several black women in strong contention.Prominent Democrats with knowledge of the process said Biden’s vetting committee has narrowed the choices to as few as six serious contenders after initial interviews. Among those still in the mix are former presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren. A potentially surprise inclusion is Susan Rice, who served as President Barack Obama’s national security adviser.Harris went after Biden last June during the first Democratic presidential debate for his stance on school busing early in his tenure as a US senator. Harris then dropped out of the race in late 2019, and remained neutral before endorsing Biden in March. Also seeking the Democratic nomination, Warren briefly attained frontrunner status in polling during the fall. Her polling numbers began to sour in October as she became a huge target on a 12-person debate stage in Ohio. Warren faced attacks from a number of other candidates for her lack of specifics for paying for a universal healthcare plan – a plan Biden opposes.Warren remained in the race through Super Tuesday, failing to win a single state during the primaries. She endorsed Biden in April after Sen. Bernie Sanders dropped out of the race.Rice has not run for major elected office, but gained her bona fides in both the Clinton and Obama administrations. She was appointed as the Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs during President Bill Clinton’s second term. She then became President Barack Obama’s ambassador to the United Nations in his first term in office, and his national security advisor during his second term.Rice’s response to the attack on the US embassy in Libya in 2012 garnered mass media scrutiny. Rice said she received CIA talking points that indicated the attack on the embassy was a spontaneous attack sparked by a hateful video. The United States’ response to the attack under Obama was the subject of a number of congressional hearings. 2109

JUSTIN, Texas – Yaser Abdel Said, one of the FBI’s 10 most wanted fugitives, was taken into custody in Texas on Wednesday.Said, 63, has been wanted since 2008, when the FBI says the father shot and killed his teenage daughters, 18-year-old Amina and 17-year-old Sarah. Before the shooting in Irving, the Egyptian-born suspect allegedly took the teens for a ride in his taxicab under the guise of taking them to get something to eat.A police report at the time said a family member reported Said threatened “bodily harm” against Sarah for going on a date with a non-Muslim, The Associated Press reports.Based on an investigation by the Irving Police Department, a capital murder-multiple warrant was issued for Said’s arrest on Jan. 2, 2008. And on Aug. 21 of that year, a federal unlawful flight to avoid prosecution warrant was issued by a U.S. district court.Said has been on the FBI’s 10 most wanted fugitives list since December 4, 2014. He was the 504th person to be placed on the list, which was established in March 1950.The search for Said was coordinated by the FBI’s Dallas Violent Crimes Task Force, which is composed of FBI special agents and officers from the Carrollton, Dallas, Garland, Grand Prairie, and Irving Police Departments and the Texas Department of Public Safety.Said is currently in federal custody and will soon be transferred to Dallas County.“His capture and arrest bring us one step closer to justice for Amina and Sarah,” said FBI Dallas Special Agent in Charge Matthew DeSarno.“Even after 12 years of frustration and dead ends, the pursuit for their killer never ceased,” said Irving Police Chief Jeff Spivey. “Today’s arrest of their father, Yaser Said brings us closer to ensuring justice is served on their behalf.” 1758
