SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Padres all-star pitcher Kirby Yates will be out of his comfort zone Sunday night when he and his wife, Ashlee, host a night of stand-up comedy. The event will raise money and awareness for a cause very close to the Yates' heart: Epilepsy.One night in 2018, the couple was asleep when Kirby heard Ashlee begin making strange sounds. It went from that to a seizure. She was pregnant with their second child at the time."It's the first time I'd ever been involved in anything like that," Yates told 10News. "It's hard to see your wife, she's pregnant with our son, and you have feelings that you've never had before.""He was definitely terrified," Ashlee said. "I obviously don't remember it, but I just know he had a very hard time with that."After a myriad of tests, Ashlee was shocked to be diagnosed with epilepsy. "I didn't know it was random and can come at any time or age," she recalls.When searching for ways to cope with the diagnosis, Ashlee turned to one of her favorite things: Stand-up comedy. She had performed at clubs before, but began integrating humor about her condition into her act. "That was actually my outlet. As soon as this happened, that was the first thing I did. I was like, I need to do something drastic to deal with this and I don't know what those options are," Ashlee said. "I like to make people laugh. I like to have fun, so this seemed like a good fit."That led to the decision to host "Comedy for a Cause", which will take place Sunday night at the American Comedy Co. in the Gaslamp. Ashlee will perform with two other well-known San Diego comedians. Kirby and several of the biggest Padres stars will be in the crowd. They also will likely be the biggest targets for the comics' humor, "I know they're big Padres fans, so I'm sure they've been following the season and have some good jokes," Ashlee said. "I did suggest a roast on Kirby.""I told them they can roast me as much as they want and it's fine," Kirby responded. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Psychiatrist Clark Smith, MD, shed light on the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s findings in Trevor Heitmann’s autopsy that revealed the 18-year old suffered from mania.Heitmann caused the fiery 805 crash on August 23 that ended not only his own life but the lives of Aileen, 43, and Aryana Pizarro, 12.The Medical Examiner’s report showed Heitmann died of blunt force injuries. Toxicology reports indicated there were no signs of drugs or alcohol in Heitmann’s system. So what led an otherwise healthy 18-year-old man to drive the wrong way at 100 mph? The Medical Examiner believed there was a long build-up to the crash. The reports stated, five days before the crash, Heitmann began showing signs of mania."The manic mood swing could be so powerful, that people lose contact with reality,” Dr. Smith said.Dr. Smith reviewed the autopsy reports with 10News. Although Heitmann had no history of depression or mental illness, Dr. Smith believed he might have been bipolar with manic tendencies. "The mood swing can change like that from being king of the world, on top of everything, to crashing, and being horribly depressed and suicidal,” Dr. Smith said. “My guess is he was feeling badly because of the setbacks that he had, losing his business and source of income. And that would be a time when he would be reactive and become more depressed.”Heitmann was a popular YouTube gamer with a successful business selling game pieces online. That was how he said he bought his high-end sports car. But earlier this year, his business was suddenly banned and shut down. The Medical Examiner said his parents noticed his mood changes and tried to get him help. They physically blocked his McLaren from leaving the driveway, and called authorities to report his behavior. But Dr. Smith believes at that point, Heitmann’s symptoms had progressed too far. “Most people who are suicidal, just take their own life, but some people are also homicidal,” Dr. Smith said. “And in this case, it's a murder-suicide. I think he had lethal intention. He didn't know who he was going to kill. But he knew he was going to kill someone."Dr. Smith said this was a true tragedy that was preventable. “This was treatable, and it’s just a heartbreak that he didn’t get treatment,” Dr. Smith said. He added bipolar manic depression is nothing to be ashamed of. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police are searching for a man who reportedly grabbed three women on three separate occasions before running away.The most recent incident was reported on Feb. 25, at about 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of Iris Ave. and Oro Vista Rd. A 22-year-old woman was walking when an unknown man walking in the opposite direction grabbed the woman's breasts and ran away, San Diego Police said.The incident is similar to two others reported in the same area.The first one, on Oct. 30, 2017, happened at about 7:30 p.m. and the second on Jan. 17, 2018, at about 9:30 p.m. Both occurred in the 1500 block of Oro Vista Rd. with a similarly described suspect who grabbed the women and ran away.The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his early 20s, about 5-foot-6, and weighing about 220 pounds. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — More than one million of the 1.95 million mail-in ballots sent to San Diego registered voters have been returned, according to the county.The County Registrar of Voters said Friday they've received more than a million mail-in ballots back with four days left until Election Day.The Registrar said at the same time before the 2016 Presidential election, the county had only received 442,802 ballots back.Saturday, the county opened polling locations from Saturday, Oct. 31 through Monday, Nov. 2 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. All locations will be open again on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.Residents can locate their polling place online here. Voters can also check the back of their sample ballots and voter information pamphlets for assigned polling places.Anyone casting their ballot in person will be required to wear a face covering and to maintain physical distance at polling locations.Poll workers will have a face mask for anyone who forgets to bring on. Players throw an axe at a wooden target and score points based on where the axe lands. There are three rounds, with five throws per player.Steve and Annie Wyland created the facility after throwing axes on the East Coast. Steve lost his job, and the couple decided to move to San Diego.Their new project offers experiences like birthday and bachelor/bachelorette parties, and corporate outings. Five of the facility’s 11 lanes are dedicated to walk-ins. There’s also league play on Wednesday nights.If you’ve never thrown an axe, don’t worry, BattleAxe SD says.
