BEIJING, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- A senior official with China's central bank Wednesday called on lenders to balance their lending this year and to avoid abrupt loan fluctuations.The People's Bank of China (PBOC) will continue to optimize the lending structure and properly manage the pace of credit growth while ensuring sufficient loans for economic recovery, said Zhang Tao, head of the bank's financial survey and statistics department.The PBOC will continue its moderately loose monetary policy this year, he added.Premier Wen Jiabao on Tuesday urged the government to optimize credit structure and maintain a proper pace of credit supply to guard against financial risks.China's top banking regulator Liu Mingkang told the Asia Financial Forum held in Hong Kong Wednesday that China's overall credit growth will be scaled down to 7.5 trillion yuan (1.1 trillion U.S.dollars) in 2010, compared with last year's lending spree of 9.59 trillion yuan.To help soak up extra cash flow, the central bank raised the reserve requirements on banks by 0.5 percentage points on Monday, the first increase in 18 months, which analysts forecast would help freeze 250 billion yuan of liquidity.

GENEVA, March 17 (Xinhua) -- It's still not the time to talk about sanctions against Iran as the door of diplomacy is still open on finding a compromise over its nuclear program, He Yafei, China's ambassador to the United Nations Office in Geneva, said on Wednesday."I think the door of compromise through negotiations, the door of diplomacy, is not closed," He told reporters."We need to do our best, to exhaust every avenue before we decide on whether we should have new additional sanction measures, " He said.The Chinese ambassador said that Iran, as a member of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), is entitled to the peaceful use of nuclear energy, but the country "should not develop any capability that can produce nuclear weapons.""We certainly do not want to see an Iran with a nuclear weapon capability...China is very much for safeguarding and strengthening the nuclear non-proliferation regime," He said.According to the ambassador, the way out for Iran's nuclear issue is to have a dialogue and to have negotiations with the country.He added that China had been talking to Iran constantly and urging the country to agree to a proposal by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as a first step to solve the nuclear issue.Under the IAEA proposal, most of Iran's existing low-grade enriched uranium should be shipped to Russia and France, where it would be processed into fuel rods with the purity of 20 percent. The higher-grad nuclear fuel would then be transported back to Iran for the use at a research reactor.The United States and its Western allies have long been accusing Iran of secretly developing nuclear weapons under the disguise of a civilian program. BEIJING, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping Wednesday stressed the need for able Party officials at county and village levels for countryside development.     Xi, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks when meeting with the relatives of Shen Hao, former secretary of a village committee of the CPC, whom Xi described as setting up an ideal example for village officials.     During his six years as the Secretary of the Xiaogang Village Committee of the CPC in east China's Anhui Province, Shen led impoverished villagers to build roads, improve housing facilities and help increase villagers' annual income from 2,300 yuan (337 U.S. dollars) to 6,600 yuan per capita.     On Nov. 6, 2009, he died of heart attack at the age of 45.     He was posthumously honored with the title of "national outstanding CPC member" and "the people's civil servant."     Xi said Shen had left a great legacy as a modern CPC village cadre with his "loyalty and love, innovation and hard work."     He urged Party officials at county and village levels to learn from Shen and contribute to the building of the socialist new countryside
