SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Chollas View elementary school was placed on lockdown Wednesday after reports of an armed man nearby.San Diego Police were called to the area of 45th and Market streets at about 9:30 a.m. over the reported suspect. Chollas-Mead Elementary School was placed on lockdown as police searched the area.Officers arrested an armed man at the scene and were searching for a second suspect who fled the scene, believed to possibly be armed as well, police said.Chollas-Mead Elementary's lockdown was lifted as of 11 a.m. while police continued their search.The outstanding suspect is described as a 6-foot-tall black man, in his 20s, last seen wearing a black shirt and light blue pants, SDPD told City News Service. 736
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A cold winter storm is set to bring rain and snow to San Diego County starting Monday, according to the National Weather Service.The agency says the San Diego County mountains could see as much as six inches of snow, sparking a winter storm watch from 8 a.m. Monday through 4 a.m. Tuesday.The heaviest snow is expected to fall above 5,500 feet with lighter amounts down to 4,500 feet.RELATED: Check today's forecast in your areaMeanwhile, other parts of the county could see much-needed rain totaling as much as one inch. Thunderstorms are also possible, the agency said.A beach hazards statement was issued Saturday ahead of the storm. Waves and surf of four to seven feet are expected with sets as high as eight feet. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - With just a few days left of Daylight Saving Time, bicycle riders can go to the Central Library today to pick up lights, courtesy of the San Diego County Bike Coalition.Standard Time, when we move the clock back one hour, arrives Sunday morning, meaning that nightfall will arrive 60 minutes earlier.The Bike Coalition will hand out front and rear lights from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the library in the East Village at 330 Park Blvd.Coalition members will also encourage safe, nighttime commuting with safety information about riding in the dark.State law requires that people riding their bikes at night have functioning front and rear lights, according to the coalition. 699
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A boy found wandering in the parking lot of a Rolando church Monday was reunited with his mother.The pastor of the Fellowship of Love Divine church found the boy around 2:30 p.m. in the parking lot on Aragon Dr., near the Kroc Center.San Diego Police got a call about 30 minutes later from a mother reporting her child missing from a home about a block away."He was clean. Had on a pair of Pampers, and a pair of socks. And he stuffed had a toy car and he seemed to be really happy, you know," said Pastor James Dawson.The boy was returned to his mother at their apartment nearby. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego State University football team announced Friday it has added a game against the Brigham Young University Cougars in December to complete its shortened schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic.The team initially received its schedule from the Mountain West Conference Thursday with a "TBA" game on Dec. 12. That game will now be played against BYU in Provo, Utah.It will be the second straight season that SDSU ends its regular season with the Cougars. Last year on Nov. 30, San Diego State defeated BYU, 13- 3, in what ended up being the Aztecs' final football game at SDCCU Stadium to snap a six-game losing streak in the series and improve to 8-21-1 all-time against Brigham Young.The BYU game will be the sole non-conference game for the Aztecs, excepting any possible post-season play.San Diego State opens its season at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, against UNLV on Oct. 24. The Aztecs will not be playing in SDCCU Stadium this season as it is being demolished to make way for the new Aztec Stadium at SDSU West Campus.The Aztecs are coming off a 10-3 season in 2019, capped by a 48-11 win over Central Michigan in the New Mexico Bowl.San Diego State hits the road for the first time on Oct. 31, when it travels to Utah State for a Halloween clash.
