With Joe Biden scheduled to deliver his DNC acceptance speech on Thursday, President Donald Trump will attempt to siphon away attention by holding a strategically-placed campaign event and a strategically-timed Fox New interview. On Thursday afternoon, Trump will travel to Old Forge, Pennsylvania, to deliver a campaign stump speech at a local business. According to the presidential schedule, the topic of Trump's speech is "a half-century of Joe Biden failing America."Old Forge is just a 20-minute drive from Biden's hometown of Scranton, Pennsylvania.Later on Thursday, Trump will conduct a phone interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity during the 9 p.m. hour — just as the DNC is getting underway for the evening.Trump appears to have been acutely watching portions of the DNC throughout the week. On Tuesday morning, he tweeted a response to Michelle Obama's convention remarks, and on Wednesday evening, he tweeted an all-caps response to Vice Presidential candidate Kamala Harris' acceptance speech.Trump's remarks come the same day that a judge again ruled that the president must turn his tax returns over to a Manhattan district attorney. They also come the same day that his former adviser, Steve Bannon, was arrested for an alleged embezzling scheme resulting from a GoFundMe campaign to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexican border.Several national polls show that Trump trails Biden by a double-digit margin, those his voters appear to have more enthusiasm for him as a candidate. 1500

Whether kids learn at school or at home this fall, Nick Rose wants them to learn and practice music. That's Rose’s goal behind his Band In A Box program.Rose has been distributing hundreds of plain brown boxes with the gift of music inside. It's a spinoff from his Band In A Bus program.“We believe it’s like giving away a box of joy,” said Rose. With more and more questions about what classes and extracurriculars will look like as the coronavirus pandemic continues, Band In A Bus is changing its approach to hand out recorders and drum sticks to as many kids as possible.“The least we can do in these trying times is help kids feel some type of happiness and excitement every day,” Rose said. "That’s kind of why we’re trying to pilot this program.”Band In A Bus says budget cuts due to the coronavirus are forcing some schools to cut back music programs even more, which makes these free boxes even more important for kids.“The worst thing that we can do to a kid is strip them of this creative outlet,” Rose said. “As a growing young person, the most valuable thing is learning who you are and your tone of voice.”The Band in a Box program has enough money to help about 500 kids, but it is raising more money to try to impact as many families as possible.“That’s the experience that every kid can kind of relate to – that excitement, that fun,” Rose said. “You could see their smiles as they were drumming. It’s such a powerful emotion.”You can donate to Band In A Box at GoFundMe.com.WCPO's Josh Bazan first reported this story. 1543

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. — If dedication to a passion distinguishes a champion from a crowd, Marlys Halbeisen just might be the one who stands out.“Nothing would be anything without her,” said Tamera Halbeisen, Marlys' daughter-in-law.“They’re not just getting a card, they’re getting a message from us saying – ‘We care about you,’” Marlys Halbeisen said. For the past three years, Marlys has transformed her Wheat Ridge home into a smaller version of Santa’s workshop for a cause near and dear to her heart.“My husband was in the military,” Marlys said. “He served in the Korean War.”In 2018, she personalized 2,700 Christmas cards for troops overseas.Last year, she did 18,000. And this year — an astounding 40,000.“The pandemic was good,” Marlys said, laughing. “I couldn’t go anywhere, so I just worked on cards.”KMGH first met Marlys last year, when the company she had lined up to ship the cards simply vanished. In the days that followed, KMGH viewers stepped up and donated so much money to the TV station's fund, that they not only paid for the shipping last year, they were able to pay for the cards and shipping this year, as well.“After visiting three stores, I bought 35,000 cards,” Marlys said. She also received about 5,000 donated cards.“Cards come every day," Marlys said. “Yesterday, I got a bag of cards.”The plan this year was to have multiple card-writing parties. That didn’t happen.“We were going to have everybody for the fun night – write the cards,” Marlys said. “Well, of course, the pandemic prevented that.”And yet, somehow, this 78-year-old would find the silver lining.“It was wonderful,” Marlys said. “I was never bored. Everybody said, ‘Oh, ‘I’m so bored.’ And I go, ‘Well, why don’t you write some cards?’”It’s also been said that one can’t expect everyone to have the same dedication as one does one's self.“Well, you know, I always thought that you find the best help at the end of your arms," Marlys said. And so it was. This one woman show who amazed us last year did it again this year.“Beyond proud,” Tamera said. “I mean, this has just given her even more dedication.”“This does make such a huge difference in a GI’s life,” said James Boxrud, manager with the U.S. Postal Service in Denver. “I remember being overseas at Christmas when I was in the service. It was so special when you received a card.”“Just spreading the love,” Tamera said. There is still a need for additional funding for postage in order to ship the cards from Washington, D.C. to troops overseas. What's in a name? A lot, if you happen to be a member of Britain's royal family. As the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on Monday announced the arrival of their son and third child, speculation turned to a possible name. The baby boy was born at St. Mary's Hospital in London at 11 a.m. local time, Kensington Palace said in a statement. But as with the royal couple's older children, Prince George, 4, and Princess Charlotte, 2, it is likely to be a few days until a name is announced.Among the bookmaker's favorites for the boy, who will be fifth in line to the throne, are Arthur, Albert and James.Tradition plays a huge role when choosing a royal name. Albert could be a nod to both Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert, and Queen Elizabeth II's father, King George VI, who was called Albert until his accession to the throne."We haven't had so many called Arthur, but it does hark back to the mythical first king of Britain," said royal commentator Kate Williams.Given Prince William and Catherine's previous choices, royal commentators are predicting the couple will stick with a traditional name for their third child."George and Charlotte are very traditional, historic, English names," said Williams. "Although this is slightly different in that their first child, Prince George, is likely to be the monarch, and this child will likely not. So they can be a little bit different with the name."The latest edition to the royal family is fifth in line to the throne -- after his grandfather Prince Charles, father William and two siblings -- bumping William's brother Prince Harry further down the order.A change in the law in 2011, after William and Kate were married, gave women the same rights of accession to the throne as men.Whichever name the Duke and Duchess choose, it will first need to be cleared with Queen Elizabeth II, though ultimately the final decision rests with the parents."The Queen has the power to say what their title is -- she'll decree that they are the Prince of Cambridge," explained Williams."But in the case of names, it is more of an informal conversation. Of course they have such respect for the Queen that if she says 'I really don't like that name,' they'd definitely take that into account," Williams added. One thing is certain, their chosen name is likely to shoot to the top of British baby name lists -- as it did with George and Charlotte. And with the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle set to take place on May 19, Williams had one final prediction: "I wouldn't be surprised if Harry and Meghan are popular baby names in the coming year."  2611
