SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego County arson investigators were called to the scene of a commercial structure fire today in Spring Valley, authorities said.The fire began at 8:02 a.m. at a structure in the 300 block of Elkelton Place, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department reported.The fire was put out by San Miguel Fire District firefighters shortly afterward. The fire was isolated to the commercial structure, sheriff's officials said.No injuries were reported. Roads were closed at Paradise Valley Road and Elkelton Place, as well as Paradise Valley Road and Worthington Street, officials said. 607

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The California Highway Patrol is reporting no fatalities and 26 drunk driving arrests in San Diego County for the Labor Day weekend period of 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Sunday.Last year for the same period, there were 40 DUI arrests and no fatalities in the county, according to the CHP.Across California, the CHP reported 551 DUI arrests and 18 fatalities for the same period. Last year, they reported 717 DUI arrests and 11 fatalities.The DUI arrests are only those made by CHP officers, while fatality statistics are for all law enforcement agencies.Statewide, 13 vehicle occupants were killed in CHP jurisdiction, six without safety belts. There were four motorcyclists killed in CHP jurisdiction, one without a helmet.The CHP investigates all crashes on freeways, and on all roads in unincorporated areas. 833

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The historic Hotel del Coronado is reopening Friday, ending the first closure in the hotel's 132-year history.The famous red-roofed hotel on Coronado Island's Orange Avenue closed with other hotels in late March as the COVID-19 pandemic reached San Diego.Hotels have started to reopen in June, following state and county public health guidelines. The Hotel del Coronado, a major tourist attraction, will reopen with limited amenities and reduced occupancy.Hotel del Coronado General Manager Harold Rapoza told 10News guests and hotel staff can expect to feel safe and comfortable after numerous modifications."We disinfect all the high-touch areas, including the light switches, remote control, door handles. We sanitize the entire room, and then we put a seal on the outside of the door so when guests do check in, they know that no one has accessed the room. They are the first person to access the room since it was cleaned and disinfected," Rapoza said.Rapoza added face coverings/masks will be required for all hotel staff and guests while in public areas. He also said there will be sanitation stands and cleaning wipes around the resort.Rapoza said as soon as they learned the hotel would be allowed to reopen, staff worked "fast and furious" to meet new health and safety guidelines."This is a very busy resort in the summer. There's a lot of foot traffic and we wanted to make sure we could manage through the guidelines. We want everyone to come and enjoy the Del and see the Del this summer. We're excited to show them our new amenities and our new protocols," he told 10News.The luxury villas the Beach Village at The Del will also open Friday. The hotel's main pool and Cabana guestrooms will remain closed until at least July 19 until upgrades are completed.Until the pool reopens, hotel management said guests will be able to borrow sand chairs for the beach and umbrellas for free. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego County public health officials have reported 283 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths, raising the region's total number of cases to 26,984, with the death toll remaining at 533.The county reported 7,505 diagnostic tests Saturday, 4% of which returned positive. The 14-day rolling average of positive tests is 5.6%. The target set by California is less than 8%. The seven-day daily average of tests is 9,201. Of the total positive cases, 2,391 -- or 8.9% -- required hospitalization and 614 -- or 2.3% -- were admitted to an intensive care unit.Three new community setting outbreaks were reported Saturday in a restaurant/bar, food processing facility and business. In the past seven days, 11 community outbreaks were confirmed. The number of community outbreaks is above the trigger of seven or more in seven days. A community setting outbreak is defined as three or more COVID-19 cases in a setting and in people of different households.The next pandemic briefing from health officials will be Monday.Cal State San Marcos sent an advisory to students and staff Thursday notifying them that two employees who were working on campus have tested positive for COVID-19."One individual was last on campus on July 16 and the other individual on July 17," the advisory said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The city of San Diego will begin enforcing parking regulations again starting Oct. 1 with a two-week grace period before full enforcement Oct. 15.The city temporarily suspended parking enforcement on March 16 following the COVID-19 stay-at-home order. Multiple attempts in the following months to reinforce parking regulations have been thwarted by ongoing shutdown orders.In developing a plan to restart parking enforcement, city staff consulted with several business groups representing communities across San Diego.Starting Thursday, the city will issue written warnings for vehicles parked in violation of:-- Posted street sweeping routes-- Metered parking restrictions-- Curb time limits-- Commercial zonesCitations will continue to be issued for vehicles parked illegally at red, white and blue painted curbs. Drivers are encouraged to follow posted signage when looking for a parking space.Although street sweeping has continued during the public health emergency, the resumption of enforcement will allow city sweepers to sweep debris and dust pollution along the curb line to maintain improved water quality and reduce the potential for flooding as the rainy season approaches.During the two-week grace period, courtesy notices will be distributed to inform residents of the enforcement restart. 1330
