His identity has been withheld because he is a minor.The boy has been released from the hospital and is back home where he will continue healing, according to the parents.Brockway was arrested on Saturday night and made his initial court appearance on Monday in Mineral County.The state requested a 0,000 bond for Brockway. However, the judge ruled Brockway released on his own recognizance. and report the crime to Cleveland police.On Oct. 16, officers responded to the 1700 block of East 12th Street after receiving a report of a woman who might be involved in a human trafficking case, police said.The woman, who is from Gambia, told police that she was sold to a family as a laborer to take care of a sick and elderly woman from Kuwait.According to the woman, she had been living with the family for the past four years in Kuwait and on Aug. 12 traveled to Cleveland with the family because the elderly woman required medical treatment at Cleveland Clinic.While speaking with police, the woman told officers that the family had been keeping her locked in an apartment at Reserve Square in the 1700 block of East 14th Street. She said that she never had the opportunity to report her situation to police or escape before because the family was either around or, if they left, they would lock her in a bedroom in the apartment.On Oct. 16, the family left her locked in the bedroom and left the apartment around 9:47 p.m., and for the first time she was able to escape, police said.In addition to contacting police, the woman was also able to get in contact with a victim advocate in Arizona. Officers contacted the advocate to get a better understanding of the situation because the woman’s English was very limited, according to police.While talking with the advocate, officers learned that the woman was in fear for her life and said that she didn’t want to go back to the family that held her captive and that she fears going back to Gambia because she believes she will be killed, police said.When officers investigated the apartment the woman said she was being held in, they found that it was vacant, but the smell of hookah was prominent in the empty space, according to police.While with the officers, the woman began receiving multiple calls from a phone number she said belonged to the family that held her captive. Diane Bailey said a misunderstanding led to her grandson having his lunch taken away in front of his classmates.Jefferson Sharpnack turned 9 years old on Tuesday and said what happened in the lunchroom made it his worst birthday ever.“I got my cheesy breadsticks and put in my number,” Jefferson said, “And when I was going to check out, the lunch lady didn’t say anything, took away my cheesy breadsticks and sauce, put them over there, and took out bread on cheese from the fridge and put it on my tray.”Jefferson came home from school on Friday, Aug. 30 with a note stating he owed for his lunch account.His grandmother said she called the school first thing the following week to straighten things out. She thought her grandson was now in good standing with the school.Jefferson and his two brothers moved to Ohio last month to live with their grandmother. The children are supposed to be enrolled in the free and reduced lunch program.Bailey said she was told by administration there that she could write a check for her grandson’s lunch balance until the free and reduced lunch registration paperwork was processed.However, on Tuesday, Jefferson came home from school and declared it was the worst birthday ever and told his grandmother what happened at lunch.“In my mind, he didn’t owe anything. I owed the money, the parents, the school district,” Bailey said. “And my other question is, if they take the food off of your tray, they have to throw it away. You would take the food off a tray and you can’t reserve it? You’re going to throw it away and not feed the child? Seals says her dad heard a noise in the middle of the night and thought it was just the cat playing or maybe a mouse. A couple days later, Seals got a call from her dad’s sitter who said she saw a dead copperhead a couple feet long on the kitchen floor.On the side of the snake's neck and head were claw marks and one big slash. Seals says Shelly killed the snake and made it out unscathed.
