(KGTV) — South Bay police officers closed down two marijuana dispensaries operating illegally.Two search warrants were served at illegal pot shops on Thursday by Chula Vista Police, according to the department. One dispensary was located at 500 Vance Street. CVPD arrested two employees on felony charges of operating an illegal dispensary and seized about ,000 in cash and 0,000 to million in illegal products.The second bust occurred at an illegal shop in the 900 block of Broadway. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A developer wants to add 300 more units to the Otay Ranch project in Chula Vista, expanding the housing options on the 35 acre site.Baldwin and Sons, the developer behind the project, is asking for public input at a meeting Tuesday night. It's at 6:30 pm at the Residence Inn by Marriott at 2005 Centerpark Road in Chula Vista.Right now, the project, called Otay Ranch, calls for 600 multi-family units, a 2 acre park, 15,000 square feet of commercial retail and two hotels. One of the hotels opened in 2017 and construction on the 292 planned for-sale condos is underway.Now, they want to add 300 units to the plans."There's a real need for housing in this location," says Nick Lee, a spokesman for Baldwin and Sons.Under the original plans, 300 apartments would have been built, with most of them being two or three-bedroom units. The new plans call for 600 apartments, with 65% of them being either studio apartments or one-bedroom units.Lee says this will bring in more young professionals, instead of families with children. That will minmize the impact on nearby schools, which are all near capacity.People who live nearby are more concerned about the traffic problems that will come about with 1000 new homes in the area."It's unbearable," says Michelle Harrison. "I don't think anyone planned for the congestion we already see on a daily basis."Lee says the soon to open South Bay Rapid from MTS will alleviate some of the traffic problems. The apartments are a 5 minute walk to the Otay Ranch Station.He adds the developers have worked with the city and are keeping the project well within the bounds of the General Plan. Also, Lee says an updated Environmental Impact Review showed the additional housing will not create any greater impact on the area than the original plan.Lee says Tuesday's meeting will be important to find out what the people who live nearby want to see in the complex.The company hopes to have final plans approved by the City Council in the start of 2019, so construction can begin as soon as possible. 2079

(KGTV) - Chula Vista Police and Sweetwater Union High School District security personnel trained Thursday to protect South Bay schools.The 6th annual Security Work Group Training, held on L St. in Chula Vista, was held to share security measures.The event was pre-planned and not related to the Parkland school shooting in Florida Wednesday, officials said.Chula Vista Police say they work with school resource officers to monitor situation both on and off campus. "They're handling kids that bring knives, drugs, maybe have made threats," said captain Vern Sallee. "I've gotten calls at midnight on a Saturday night that somebody posted something on social media. We would rather chance down false leads all day long than have to follow up on a real lead after a tragedy."The Sweetwater district says they have one of most comprehensive training sessions in the county. (KGTV) -- A Chula Vista Police officer was honored with a Medal of Valor and Purple Heart from the Chula Vista Police Department Thursday morning after being stabbed while on duty in 2017.Officer David Sachs was honored with a Medal of Valor for his “extraordinary bravery and willingness to protect the lives of others, without regard for his own safety” the department said. He was also awarded a Purple Heart for his injuries while on duty.On September 19 of 2017, Officer Sachs along with Officer Leo Banales and Chaplain Wes Anderson responded to a home on Monterey Avenue after receiving a report that a man’s neighbor threw a large piece of concrete over his fence, injuring the victim.RELATED: Chula Vista Police officer who shot man recovering from stabbing?When officers arrived, the victim pointed out the suspect’s house. After knocking on the door, the suspect’s mother answered and invited the officers in.Police say, though they didn’t know at the time, the suspect, described as a 6-foot-tall man in his late 20s, was suffering from emotional or psychological distress.After stepping into the home’s kitchen, the suspect started attacking Sachs with a knife, stabbing him multiple times in the face, head and arm.Police say Sachs was able to knock the suspect to the ground while yelling “Knife! Knife! Knife!” to his partners.The suspect then lunged at Banales with a knife before he and Anderson went outside. According to police, Sachs drew his weapon and told the suspect to drop the knife before the suspect blocked the exit and attacked him again with the knife.RELATED: Officer stabbed, suspect shot three times in Chula Vista?Police say Sachs then moved the suspect’s mother behind him for safety and shot the suspect. The suspect collapsed in the dining room after being struck.After hearing the shots, Anderson went back to the home’s front door to help. (AP) — Another person killed in the deadliest wildfire in California history has been identified.The Butte County Sheriff's office said Friday it positively identified the remains of 68-year-old Judith Sipher of Paradise.That brings the total number of named dead to 81. Three people whose remains were recovered after the wildfire are tentatively identified but have not yet been named by the sheriff's office. Two of the 86 victims remain unknown.The fire in November last year destroyed nearly 15,000 homes in Paradise and surrounding towns. In the aftermath of the catastrophe, authorities used DNA testing to identify bone fragments and other remains of the victims.
