on Monday, and confirmed by a source close to the show. Tapings of the two popular TV game shows, both produced by Sony Entertainment, will continue. The audience is being kept away out of an abundance of caution as health officials are encouraging the public to conduct social distancing amid the spread of the virus. Tapings for Jeopardy are of particular concern due to the health of Alex Trebek. Trebek, the 79-year-old host of Jeopardy, has been fighting stage 4 pancreatic cancer since last year. The CDC and other health officials said that the elderly and those with weakened immune systems should avoid social contact as COVID-19 spreads throughout the United States. 679

YORBA LINDA, Calif. – A sheriff’s deputy in Southern California is accused of burglarizing a home that he previously responded to in reference to a death investigation. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department says Deputy Steve Hortz, a 12-year veteran with the department, responded to the Yorba Linda home on July 20 regarding a man in his 70s who died from apparent natural causes. On Wednesday, the sheriff’s department says it was contacted by an attorney representing the family estate who reported items missing from the home. The lawyer also provided home surveillance video that captured Deputy Hortz entering the home without permission on at least three separate occasions and exiting with stolen property. In the first incident, authorities say the deputy returned to the home on July 27. While in uniform, he allegedly broke into the unoccupied residence through the rear and left a short time later. It’s unclear whether a theft occurred at that time. The deputy returned to the home in the early morning on Aug. 10 and Aug. 16 while in civilian clothes and removed items, including weapon safes, ceiling fans, and cases of unknown items, according to the department. An investigation was immediately launched when the department learned of the burglaries and Hortz was arrested on Thursday. He’s been booked into jail on suspicion of burglary.Hortz was also placed on administrative leave and the department says it will investigate prior calls handled by the deputy to determine if similar unreported instances have occurred.“The suspected criminal actions of this deputy are a violation of public trust, are inexcusable and intolerable,” said Orange County Sheriff Don Barnes in a statement. “This deputy will be held accountable through a swift and thorough process including a full criminal and internal administrative investigation.” 1853

in Lake Erie on Tuesday.Authorities said the jet ski appeared to be anchored with two people fishing. No state registration number visible on the watercraft. When approached, the people on the jet ski told an Air and Marine Operations (AMOP) and a Border Patrols agent that they were from Mexico and did not have immigration documents.AMOP transported the two back to shore and handed them off to Border Patrol agents. Border Patrol then took the pair to the United States Border Patrol Sandusky Bay Station for further identification.“During the summer months Lake Erie is one of the busiest boating communities in the nation,” said Brian Manaher, Deputy Director Marine Operations, Great Lakes Air and Marine Branch. “This case is a testament to our highly skilled law enforcement ability to differentiate between legitimate boat traffic and nefarious traffic.”At the Border Patrol station, one of the people was identified as a valid DACA recipient and released to his jet ski.The other man was identified as an undocumented immigrant with a warrant of deportation issued on Oct. 2, 2012.The man and his property were turned over to ICE, where he will be held pending his removal. This story was originally published by Courtney Shaw on 1240
