SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A broken water main damaged a Santee street and flooded at least one nearby business early Friday morning.At around 3:45 a.m., authorities were called to Prospect Avenue and Cuyamaca Street in response to a water coming out of the roadway.The water blasted out of the street and flooded an auto repair business. At least six vehicles were partially submerged due to the rising water.By 4:15 a.m., authorities were able to shut off the water and begin road repairs.A city official said they believe the overnight temperature change may have caused the water main break.ABC 10News learned repairs are expected to last throughout the day.The public is asked to avoid the area of Prospect Avenue and Cuyamaca Street, as lanes have been closed. 772

SANTEE, Calif. (CNS) - Gov. Gavin Newsom signed into law a bill authored by Sen. Brian Jones, R-Santee, which extends immunity from liability for local governments that operate skate parks, the lawmaker announced Tuesday.Senate Bill 1003 follows a similar bill Jones wrote in 2015 while he was a member of the Assembly that provided a four-year immunity window for municipally operated skate parks. SB 1003 makes that immunity permanent."Senate Bill 1003 grants much-needed immunity from liability for communities that operate skate parks," Jones said. "Local skateboarders and sport riders get a safer place than the streets to carve, do McTwists or ollies, and taxpayers are not going to be liable for the occasional mishap that is inherent to all active sports."SB 1003 was sponsored by the County of San Diego, and as an urgency measure, goes into effect immediately.The bill was co-authored by Sens. SEATTLE (AP) — Seattle's police chief says she will retire. The move was reported Monday, the same day the City Council approved reducing the department through layoffs and attrition. The cuts were supported by demonstrators who have marched in the city following the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. The reductions were strongly opposed by the mayor and police chief. KING-TV reported that Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best, the city's first Black police chief, told the department of her decision in a letter, saying her retirement will be effective Sept. 2. “I am confident the department will make it through these difficult times,” Best said in the letter. “You truly are the best police department in the country, and please trust me when I say, the vast majority of people in Seattle support you and appreciate you. ... I look forward to seeing how this department moves forward through the process of re-envisioning public safety. SAN FRANCISCO (CNN) - James Schwab, a spokesman for the San Francisco Division of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, has resigned, citing what he says are falsehoods being spread by members of the Trump administration including Attorney General Jeff Sessions."I just couldn't bear the burden -- continuing on as a representative of the agency and charged with upholding integrity, knowing that information was false," he told CNN on Monday.Schwab cited Acting Director Tom Homan and Attorney General Jeff Sessions as being the purveyors of misleading and inaccurate information, following Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf's controversial decision to warn the community of an upcoming ICE raid.ICE released a press release on February 27 about the operations in Northern California in which Homan stated that "864 criminal aliens and public safety threats remain at large in the community, and I have to believe that some of them were able to elude us thanks to the mayor's irresponsible decision."Sessions also repeated a similar estimate in his remarks while visiting Sacramento last week."Those are 800 wanted criminals that are now at large in that community -- 800 wanted criminals that ICE will now have to pursue with more difficulty in more dangerous situations, all because of one mayor's irresponsible action," Sessions had said.Schwab said he took issue with their characterization."Director Homan and the Attorney General said there were 800 people at large and free to roam because of the actions of the Oakland Mayor," he told CNN. SEASIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - A Central California teacher, who also serves as a reserve police officer, was placed on administrative leave after accidentally firing his gun inside a classroom.Seaside High School instructor Dennis Alexander was teaching a public safety course for an Administration of Justice class when his gun went off, according to KSBW."Alexander was believed to have been providing instruction related to public safety awareness," Seaside Police told the station.One student suffered non-major injuries and was taken to the hospital. According to the school district, Alexander was pointing his gun toward the ceiling when it went off.Alexander was also placed on administrative leave at the Sand City Police Department, KSBW reported."I have concerns about why he was displaying a loaded firearm in a classroom.
