(AP) — The Mormon church is scaling back the Sunday time commitment expected of its members from three hours to two.Russell M. Nelson, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, announced the change Saturday at the faith's twice-yearly conference. (KGTV) - A Valley Center mom is grateful her daughter is alive, days after discovering her two-year-old girl floating in the back yard pool."It's every mother's worst nightmare and the images plays in my mind a lot," said Emily Friske.That nightmare began with a very ordinary afternoon on Monday, inside a Valley Center home. Friske finished feeding her baby and two-year-old daughter Addie. Friske thought she heard Addie follow her husband into the bedroom. Her husband thought Addie was with Friske in the living room. Minutes later, Friske followed her crawling infant to the back door. "The door was partially open and Addie's clothes were lying on the ground," said Friske.Soon after, she was rushing into the back yard. Her heart stopped. Addie was in the pool."She was blue, not moving, and floating on her side in the shallow end," said Friske.She had no pulse and wasn't breathing. A frantic Friske, a former EMT, and her husband both performed CPR for a total of about 11 minutes before an ambulance arrived."My husband kept yelling, 'Adelaide, Adelaide, Adelaide' with every compression. He was yelling, 'Stay with us!'" said Friske.It wasn't until Addie was in the ambulance - about 30 minutes after she was discovered - that she started breathing again. In the ICU, doctors told the couple that brain damage was likely, possibly severe. On Tuesday, they took Addie off the ventilator and waited. "She reached out for her blanket and said, 'Addie blanket.' The doctors and I looked at each other, and we clapped and cried," said Friske.After a battery of encouraging tests, Friske is hopeful Addie will make a full recovery. Friske is sharing Addie's story for other families, many staying at home during the hot summer months. She urges them to learn CPR and learn from her."My message to parents is to be as vigilant as you can. It can happen in an instant," said Friske.Friske says Addie could go home Saturday. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A young boy was airlifted to the hospital Tuesday night following a hit-and-run. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the crash happened on the 1000 block of Mar Vista Drive around 5 p.m. Lt. Ted Greenawald said a white sedan struck the 12-year-old before leaving the scene. Reports indicate that a second vehicle may have also hit the boy. That driver is said to have remained at the scene. The boy was taken to the Rady Children’s Hospital with injuries to his leg and cuts on his face. The child was conscious and responsive while being treated at the scene, Greenawald said. An initial investigation indicated that the vehicle that first struck the boy was a 2019-2020 white Toyota sedan. “The sedan should have damage to the right mirror and possible front-end damage,” the department said in a news release. (KGTV) - Upset parents are scrambling after the owner of a beloved preschool and daycare says she will be forced to shut down in a few weeks. ?18-month-old Merrick lights up when he goes to his daycare. More than a year ago, Brie Way enrolled her son at Intelli Children, both a daycare and preschool."It's not just a place. It's a home for kids," said Way.The home for more than 70 kids could soon be closing its doors."I feel sad for the children, parents and staff," said Carol Wilson, owner and director of Intelli Chidren.Ceiling stains in many of the classrooms mark the problem. Wilson says the leaky roof she noticed when she moved in eight years ago turned into big problem with this winter's rains, when several floods for them to cause of several occasions. According to Wilson, walls had to be cut out in most of the classrooms. Wilson says after the landlord declined the necessary repairs, she paid for the repairs so she could stay open. She then stopped paying rent early this year."The business was not viable anymore," said Wilson.She says negotiations stalled when her landlord declined a permanent fix and told her she had to close the school in early August. For Way, a single mom, panic is setting in. Affordable, quality child care is hard to find and she fears she'll be in the same boat she was a year ago."I called from Escondido to Oceanside, and found myself on 30 waiting lists ... It needs to stay open. There aren't a lot of good schools like this in the area. It would devastate the community I believe," said Wilson. The landlord declined comment, contending 'eight months of back rent' are still owed him. Wilson says it's closer to five months and she's willing to pay it if the repairs are done.Wilson says she and her husband are at retirement age and would not be opening the school at a new location. 10news has learned someone has stepped forward and expressed interested in taking over the school.
