SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Video shows a brutal fight outside a Pacific Beach bar and restaurant that sent a bouncer to the hospital with critical injuries. The assault happened at about 9:20 p.m. at the Firehouse, 722 Grand Ave., according to San Diego Police. Four men tried to get into the restaurant through a side entrance but the main bouncer told them to use the main door, officers said. One of the men picked up a metal crowd barrier stanchion pole and struck the bouncer over the head, said police. The bouncer suffered a skull fracture and brain bleed. Officers said he is currently in critical but stable condition in the hospital. After the pole strike, the three other men in the group began fighting with security staff members. One of the bouncers suffered a broken nose and the other two had bumps and bruises, police said. The man responsible for the pole attack is described as African-American, in his 30s, 6’0” tall, 250 pounds with a muscular build. He was wearing a white t-shirt and jeans. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- Across San Diego County, most law enforcement agencies have been focusing on education rather than enforcement regarding violations of the county’s public health order.The goal is to get people to comply voluntarily.“What we’re trying to do here is educate the public so that ultimately we can save lives,” said San Diego Sheriff, Bill Gore.In the City of Coronado, police have been offering people free facial coverings.“To approach folks in an enforcement posture, I’m not sure we’re going to get the type of compliance we need,” said Coronado Police Chief Chuck Kaye. “When we see folks that are not using face coverings we say ‘hey can we offer you a face covering?’”This Fourth of July weekend is expected to be busy, especially at local beaches.California Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered all parking lots of state beaches in Southern California and the Bay Area to be closed for the weekend.The City of Oceanside has also decided to close off its beach parking lots.So far, no community COVID-19 outbreaks have been linked to outdoor settings.“I spoke to a number of the coastal mayors and said ‘are you confident you can enforce the physical distancing at your beaches?’” said county’s supervisor, Nathan Fletcher. “They said they can so we have to trust them that they can do that as we move forward into the weekend,” said San Diego County supervisor Nathan Fletcher.“We have our normal patrols in our coastal towns that we police for,” said Gore. “We’re not planning to add enforcement details to be specifically walking on the beaches to look at who’s wearing a mask, who’s socially distanced or not.”Gore said he expects beachgoers to comply with social distancing and facial covering rules when required.Under the latest public health order, restaurants must close to the public from 10 PM TO 5 AM.Bars, wineries, and breweries that don’t serve food must completely close down. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two Senate runoff elections in Georgia will determine if President-elect Joe Biden and the Democrats have full control of Congress or a divided government.Although there has been notable legislation passed in periods of divided government, two political science experts say they expect consensus on only “incremental” legislation in our hyper-partisan era.Each of the last six commanders-in-chief presided over a period of divided government, where the opposing party controlled one or both chambers in Congress.“We've seen less productivity come out of those sessions,” said Dr. Stephen Goggin, a political scientist at San Diego State University. “You have to do more of the bargaining type politics that we haven't necessarily seen in recent history.”Compromise used to be more common. In the early 1980s, the Reagan Administration worked with Democrats in the House to pass tax cuts and banking deregulation along with funding for job training and highway infrastructure.President George W. Bush, another Republican, worked with a Democratic-controlled Senate during his first two years to pass major bills like the first Bush tax cut, the Help America Vote Act, No Child Left Behind, and the Patriot Act. Tribal government leaders of the Barona Band of Mission Indians, Campo Kemeyaay Nation, Jamul Indian Village, Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, and Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians all announced that they were closing casinos amid COVID-19. "The Tribes are united in this decision to close for the health and well-being of the community, their guests and approximately 9,000 employees. Despite this closure, it is their hope that they can continue to provide emergency services for their respective communities," officials said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — At Fleet Week, the Osprey MV-22 is on display, on the USS Harper's Ferry's flight deck, a controversial aircraft after dozens died during training. Crews say now it's much safer.The unique aircraft transforms from a helicopter to a plane mid-flight. The trouble, four crashes killed 30 people during training missions from 1991-2000."Most every system on that aircraft has a triple redundant system, so that if there is a failure the other two systems pick up the slack," Corporal Tyler Gartin said.
