(KGTV) - Bedbugs, the bane of many homeowners, were discovered lurking inside several San Diego County buildings last week.10News was tipped off to a bedbug infestation at a county building: the Agricultural Weights and Measures building in San Marcos.The county confirmed to 10News, bedbugs were found there and another building from the same department in Kearny Mesa.  As for how it happened, a county spokesperson revealed only that an employee is the cause and public areas were not affected.Workers from the Agricultural Weights and Measures Department, which provides pest control for the county, have laid traps, monitored for bed bugs, and moved employees to a separate area.Garrett Thrasher is Vice President of Thrasher Pest Control.  He says the typical plan of attack could also involve K9 alerting, vacuuming, steam cleaning and sometimes chemical treatments."From there, it's weekly checks to make sure there is no new activity or complaint," said Thrasher.Thrasher says bedbug calls have been increasing over the last few months and are slightly up from the same time last year. 1161

SAN MARCOS (CNS) - Palomar College will break ground today on a new on-site food pantry that will help meet the massive demand of students facing food insecurity.The future Anita and Stan Maag Food and Nutrition Center will offer a modern, bigger home for the college's food pantry, which has been in operation for over three decades. SAN FRANCISCO (KGTV) -- The US Coast Guard in San Francisco said Tuesday rescued a man they say was bitten by a shark.According to the Coast Guard, the incident happened near the Farallon Islands. Authorities has to hoist the man into a helicopter after they say he was bitten on the hand or the wrist.At this time, it’s unknown what kind of shark attacked the man. 378

Seattle police have moved in to break up the Capitol Hill Occupied Protest (CHOP) after Mayor Jenny Durkan issued an executive order early Wednesday morning declaring the gathering illegal.According to the Seattle Times and KOMO-TV, about a dozen protesters were arrested Wednesday morning as police ordered those present to leave the area.Demonstrators have occupied the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle for about three weeks. (KGTV) - Portions of Santa Barbara County were given mandatory evacuation orders, ahead of an approaching storm and possible mudslides.As of 12 p.m. Thursday, individuals near the Thomas, Sherpa and Whittier fire burn areas in Goleta, Santa Barbara, Montecito, Summerland, and Carpinteria were ordered to evacuate before 6 p.m.A flash flood watch has been issued for areas of Santa Barbara County affected by the Thomas, Whittier, and Sherpa fires starting at 9 p.m. and lasting until 9 a.m. Friday.The storm is expected to hit the Southern California region with moderate to heavy rainfall Thursday. Rains may generate mud and debris flows."The potential for debris flows being triggered is low to moderate. Waterway flows may be rapid and blockage and overtopping in waterways is expected. Roads may be flooded and impassable," a city release said. "People close to and immediately downstream of choke points may be endangered.
