In a new effort to tackle the deadly opioid addiction crisis in the US, pharmacy giant CVS announced on Friday it will limit opioid prescriptions to seven days for certain conditions. This restriction will apply to patients who are new to pain therapy.The new pharmacy program will also limit the daily dosage of pain pills based on their strength and will require use of immediate-release formulations before extended release opioids -- intended for severe, long-term pain treatment -- are dispensed.The changes will roll out on February 1, 2018 and cover all commercial, health plan, employer and Medicaid clients.CVS, which manages medications for nearly 90 million plan members, is one of the largest pharmaceutical chains in the US, with approximately 9,600 CVS Pharmacy stores and more than 1,100 walk-in medical clinics."With a presence in nearly 10,000 communities across the country, we see firsthand the impact of the alarming and rapidly growing epidemic of opioid addiction and misuse," said Larry J. These educational sessions will also emphasize the importance of keeping medications secure in the home and proper disposal of unused medication.To help patients wanting to follow these guidelines, the company will almost double the number of drug disposal units in its Medication Disposal for Safer Communities Program from 800 to 1,550 kiosks. This expansion will begin this fall with locations in Florida, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and the District of Columbia.The company is also committing million to Community Health Centers that provide medication-assisted treatment and other addiction recovery services.The President's opioid commission says that about 142 Americans die every day from a drug overdose, equal to the death toll from the September 11 attacks every three weeks. Most of those overdoses are from opioids.Though there were over 30,000 fatal overdoses from opioid drugs in 2015, public health experts believe that for every fatal overdose, there are 30 non-fatal overdoses. Hunters in the Florida Everglades continue to pull out some massive pythons in an attempt to eliminate the invasive species from the Sunshine State.The South Florida Water Management District on Wednesday posted a video that showed famed python hunter Dusty Crum with one of his recent catches -- a 16-foot, 11-inch whopper!The snake broke Crum's own record for the longest snake caught as part of SFWMD's Python Elimination Program.The district said Crum captured the python late last Thursday.Since the program began in late March, hunters have removed 638 invasive pythons from the Everglades. 624

In a joint press release on Thursday, a group of Trump administration officials called the 2020 election "the most secure in American history," directly contradicting the President.In their statement, the members of the Election Infrastructure Government Coordinating Council (GCC) Executive Committee added that "there is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes, changed votes, or was in any way compromised."“While we know there are many unfounded claims and opportunities for misinformation about the process of our elections, we can assure you we have the utmost confidence in the security and integrity of our elections, and you should too," the statement read, in part. "When you have questions, turn to elections officials as trusted voices as they administer elections.”The statement added that all states that use computerized voting systems also have paper records of each vote, meaning states can further verify results if needed.Ten members of the GCC signed the statement.The press release was issued by the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency, an agency within the Department of Homeland Security. He's using his shirt and sleeve to cover his face."Our cashier says he has to wear a proper face mask. The customer gets upset. The cashier offers a face mask that we have on hand for those who don't have masks. He thinks about it and gets upset," said manager Myra Espinoza.In the video, the man waves his hand, apparently waving off the mask offer, before he begins walking away. Moments later, there is a loud sound."He heard something hit the window, and the window falling and shattering down," said Espinoza.The video revealed the cause: the man took his skateboard and thrust into one of the restaurant's windows."It hurts. That's like my house. It's so disrespectful. I wouldn't go to his house and break his window," said Espinoza.Espinoza says it's not the first time someone has gotten upset over the mask policy."We have sliding windows. One gentleman grabbed the sliding windows so hard, it bounced back," said Espinoza.Still, those types of incidents are rare. Thursday's vandalism is the first time things have turned destructive."It's uncalled for and unnecessary.
