According to Zillow, million in San Diego can buy a single-family home that has 2,410 square feet, four bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. Families in Chula Vista can get more for their money, where million can buy a 3,890 square foot home with five bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms. On a slightly lighter note, million can typically buy a 1,900 square foot, three bedroom, two bathroom home in Los Angeles, Zillow reports. In the U.S., the typical million home is a detached single-family house with about 2,200 square feet with four bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man died after an SUV veered off a freeway in the National City area and crash landed in the Sweetwater River Friday morning.The California Highway Patrol said the incident involving a Lexus SUV was reported just before 5:40 a.m. on the westbound side of state Route 54, near the transition to Interstate 5.ABC 10News learned a woman was walking on a bike path along the Sweetwater River when she saw a vehicle come off the freeway and down an embankment.The woman told authorities that the SUV almost hit her and then crashed in the water.Authorities at the scene confirmed that a man believed to be the driver was pulled from the water but died despite life-saving measures at the scene. The CHP identified the man as a 69-year-old Chula Vista resident.A team of divers was sent into the water to determine if more people were in the SUV, but no other victims were located. The CHP later confirmed the deceased male was the SUV's lone occupant.A tow truck helped pull the vehicle from the water.The cause of the crash is under investigation and anyone who may have witnessed the incident is urged to contact local authorities. 1158

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A new program promises to help San Diegans get high-paying tech jobs without the crippling student loan debt.It's through a partnership between the San Diego Workforce Partnership and UC San Diego Extension, offering students what's called an income share agreement (ISA). With the ISA, tuition is covered and students agree to pay a small proportion of their income for a set period of time after graduating.“If the program doesn’t work for you and you don’t get a high paying job, you pay nothing. If it works, you pay a small percentage of your income back into the fund. And that fund, you pay it forward to the next cohort of people coming behind you," said Andy Hall, Chief Operating Officer of the San Diego Workforce Partnership.RELATED: Realtors expect busy spring for buyers and sellersThe programs include front-end web development, Java programming, business intelligence, or digital marketing; each costs ,500.“The ranges are you pay nothing if you’re making under ,000, if you're making over that, you'll pay between 5 and 8 percent of your income, and then you'll never pay more than about 1.6 to 1.8 of what was initially financed for you," said Hall.The program is possible thanks to million in grant funding, with Strada Education Network providing an initial .2 million. Strada granted the money to the Workforce to increase access and diversity in tech through ISAs.Dr. Josh Shapiro, UC San Diego Extension Assistant Dean of Research Affairs, says the university wants to extend its reach into the community.“Assuring everyone has access to a world-class education, regardless of where they live, their means, their socioeconomic status," said Shapiro. He says the ISA model is one which could be used for undergraduate programs in the UC System down the line. Shapiro says their ISA is consumer friendly because they're not relying on private equity or venture capital. The program only succeeds if students are successful and put money back into the fund. While ISAs are becoming more popular around the country, Shapiro warns consumers to be cautious and read the terms. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man accused of sexually assaulting women at knife-point across San Diego will face trial.On Tuesday, Judge Maureen F. Hallahan bound over eight felony counts against 19-year-old Seth Roberts.Three of his alleged victims gave testimony on Tuesday, describing their encounters with him.The first was an 18-year-old woman who said she had dated Roberts for about two months last year. They had been living in Oklahoma but both decided to hitchhike to California in October. RELATED: Former pro skateboarder convicted of rape and murder granted paroleThe woman, whose name was not released, said they stayed in Los Angeles for a week before coming down to San Diego where they were staying in a tent at a campground.She told the judge Roberts forcibly raped her one morning, holding her hands above her head.“I was telling him it was wrong, saying it was rape,” she said.After, she said Roberts left to go to work and she called a Lyft car which drove her all the way to Arizona where she called police and reported the alleged rape.The second victim said she met Roberts while walking near the beach in Pacific Beach in November of 2018.“He seemed like a very nice person,” she said through an interpreter.RELATED: Police searching for additional victims in sex assault caseThe woman said she is from Brazil but had been living in Washington, DC working as an au pair for a family.She traveled with them to San Diego for vacation and bumped into Roberts on her day off.She said he began making small talk and told her his roommate had a Brazilian girlfriend. He convinced her to walk with him towards his apartment to meet her.But she said before they made it there, he directed her to an area on the side of a home and pulled out a knife.She told the court that Roberts put his hand down her pants and inserted his finger into her anus while holding a knife to her throat.“I thought of my family. I thought of my dreams, how much I wanted to come here,” she said. “I could have never imagined this would happen to me.”A third woman also testified, saying Roberts raped her in her home at knife-point after she refused his advances.Roberts is being held on ,000,000 bail. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A new California law aims to help thousands of low-income Californians gain access to fresh and healthy food.Seniors in California who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits will also be able to apply for CalFresh food benefits, formerly known as food stamps.SSI recipients are either over age 65, disabled, or blind. Up until recently, they couldn't apply for CalFresh benefits because they receive money for food in their check; however, it's just a month. "One of the challenges seniors face is the high cost of living, we can hardly make it with what we get," said Gwendolyn Joseph, a San Diegan who lives on a fixed income.Joseph just turned 76 and can finally apply for CalFresh benefits, despite receiving SSI benefits. The average CalFresh recipient receives 0 per month to purchase food."We are striving so hard in California to restore these kinds of safety net programs to our most vulnerable Californians, look around this room, these are people who've worked their entire lives, they deserve it, they've earned it, and they need our support now," said Senator Toni Atkins, who represents California Senate District 39.Feeding San Diego, in partnership with Serving Seniors, 211 San Diego, and the County of San Diego Health and Human Services, is working to spread the word and encourage SSI recipients to apply for CalFresh benefits. "The nutritional gap that we're seeing in San Diego in terms of people having calories to eat, but not having healthy and nutritious foods to eat, is a real serious and growing problem, and it impacts seniors disproportionately," said Vince Hall, CEO of Feeding San Diego.
