RIDGECREST, Calif. (KGTV) — A 4.7-magnitude earthquake hit just outside the town Southern California town of Ridgecrest late Thursday.The quake struck near area of Little Lake, Calif., about 20 miles away from Ridgecrest just after 5:40 p.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. USGS estimated the earthquake's depth at about 1.2 miles.The earthquake could be felt from as far away as Spring Valley, according to the USGS' "Did You Feel It?" map.Several aftershocks were recorded around the area following the 4.7 shake up. No injuries were immediately reported. On July 5, magnitude 5.4 and 7.1 quakes hit the Ridgecrest area, causing millions in damage locally. Those quakes could be felt as far away as Las Vegas. 729

Avery Monsen took us behind the scenes of the "Super Secret Secret Club."Monsen has a lot of day jobs these days. He writes and illustrates books for children and adults, he's done some acting and he's been in commercials. But these days, Hollywood isn't doing much. One day a friend of his asked him to make a video to help entertain his own kids, who were quite literally climbing the walls.“He knows that I have this sort of grab bag of circus and magic tricks and skills that are very rarely actually useful in life, but they are useful in entertaining children,” said Monsen.And so, the Super Secret Secret Club was born. You can find it online, on Instagram or on Instagram TV, and it is full of good, clean fun.“It’s just a bunch of cardboard and duct tape, but there’s also all these strings that go everywhere we’re probably going to lose our security deposit on this place, whoops,” said Monsen.There's no market research about what kids like and Avery describes himself as a someone who is quite possibly still a kid.“I think I’m just making things that I like is the truth, and my taste is the taste of a 4 and 9-year-old. The things that I think are funny are the things a 4-year-old thinks are funny,” said Monsen.He also made activity pages for kids. There's puzzles and games and even a Super Secret Secret Club membership card.“I knew that kids were going to get bored and antsy in the quarantine times. I felt the least I could do is make some fun videos for them," said Monsen.Monsen isn't in it for the clicks, likes or comments. He's purely helping kids laugh, for free. And admittedly, he says, he needed a project and he happens to have a garage full of crafts as well as a huge paper maché pet rock named Anthony, who talks, by the way.“Which maybe means I’m a bit of a hoarder. I have a lot of cardboard. We had just moved into this new apartment which had a garage. Before that, I was doing projects in the living room which made my wife very sad,” said Monsen.His content has kids everywhere giggling and Monsen says, “when you’re devoting your entire week to making a silly video and you’re not getting paid for any of it, getting videos of kids enjoying it and doing the activities and laughing really, really makes it worthwhile.”Certainly, it’s a worthwhile effort from a guy who has all the tricks, trades and a huge knack for making all the little ones laugh during a time when giggles are hard to come by. 2603

(AP) — Sparks from a hammer driving a metal stake into the ground ignited a 2018 blaze in Northern California that killed a firefighter and became the largest wildland fire in state history, officials said Thursday.The blaze started July 17, 2018, in Mendocino County and quickly spread, aided by dry vegetation, strong winds and hot temperatures. It spread to Colusa, Glenn and Lake counties, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said.The fire burned a total of 640 square miles (1,660 square kilometers), much of it in the Mendocino National Forest, making it the largest wildland fire, or fire on undeveloped land, in state history. It also destroyed nearly 160 homes and killed a firefighter from Utah.Cal Fire did not identify the person who ignited the blaze. It said no charges will be filed.The Ranch fire was one of two side-by-side blazes dubbed the Mendocino Complex. SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California lawmakers want the state Attorney General to investigate all police shootings that kill an unarmed civilian. The bill is one of the highest-profile reforms filed this year in response to the killing of George Floyd while in police custody. The Senate OK'd the bill Sunday despite opposition from Attorney General Xavier Becerra, who has called it “untenable and unreasonable.” He says it would cost his office up to million a year. RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond Police are investigating after someone spray-painted "White Lives Matter" across a statue of black tennis legend Arthur Ashe statue along Monument Avenue in Richmond.Ashe, a Richmond-born tennis star and humanitarian, was the first black man to win U.S Open and Wimbledon titles.Wednesday's incident at the Ashe statue comes after weeks protests against police brutality both in Richmond and around the country.Statues along Monument Avenue honoring Confederate leaders like Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, and Jefferson Davis have either been spray-painted or toppled during the protest.Concrete barriers were installed around the Lee statue on Wednesday morning.The Virginia Department of General Services said it was erecting the barriers to protect the safety of demonstrators and the structure.The action came shortly after protesters toppled the Howitzers Monument located near Virginia Commonwealth University's Monroe Park campus on Tuesday.It was the third Confederate statue, and the fourth monument, to be torn down by demonstrators in Virginia following the death of George Floyd, a black man who died after a white Minneapolis police officer pressed a knee into his neck.Earlier this month, Virginia Gov.
