EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) — An East County restaurant hit hard by the pandemic has been hit by thieves, twice in a three-day span.Like so many other restaurants, the pandemic has not been kind to Hacienda Casa Blanca Mexican Restaurant and Cantina in El Cajon."Definitely not easy. It's been crazy with new changes every day," said co-owner Cindy Gomez.Gomez says the restaurant has received a federal PPP loan, but revenues are down about 30% to 40% since March."From the first day, we've been trying to keep our staff working .. Haven't had to lay off anyone," said Gomez.Gomez says they had to spend extra when COVID-19 restrictions led them to set up for dining in the parking lot. That extra money spent vanished overnight during a weekend a few weeks ago. Two large canopies and two umbrellas were stolen.A few days later, there was another theft. This time, an umbrella, table, chairs, and a plant disappeared."Take a lot to get angry, but I got angry. Then it went to total frustration," said Gomez.Eventually, the items from the second theft were recovered outside a nearby building. Gomez says her surveillance footage was deleted over, but she saw the video and believes both thefts may have involved transients."In the first theft, two men with shopping carts rolled into the parking lot, dismantled the canopies threw them into their carts, and rolled away," said Gomez.The restaurant does store most of its outdoor set up inside, but what was left out, was targeted. 1486
Dolly Parton spent Thursday at Vanderbilt's Children's Hospital to celebrate a deeply personal milestone. Her niece, Hannah Dennison, turns 30 years old on Sunday — a birthday Parton wasn't always sure she'd be able to celebrate."Twenty-six years ago is when Hannah was diagnosed with leukemia, and for five years we didn't know if we'd be keeping her or not," Parton told a room full of doctors, nurses, patients and families. "But Hannah now stands here as our chemo hero. She shows that miracles do happen with good care, great doctors and great nurses."Parton met some of those doctors and nurses last fall when she visited the hospital to release her first-ever children's album. During that visit, she decided to donate million to the hospital."They took such good care of her and just looking at the little faces of the kids going through this and the parents who suffer so much as well; it's just touching and moving," she said. "If you're in a position where you can do something, you should do something."In return, the Children's Hospital dedicated it's second floor butterfly garden to Dennison on Thursday."Now that we have Hannah's butterfly garden, we may come up and do little shows now and then and bring some joy to the kids," Parton said. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - Grandparents and their grandson escaped a house fire in El Cajon Wednesday night but they lost their family cat.The fire broke out in the back room of a home on Gladys St. at 11 p.m.Despite the danger, the grandson ran back into the home to find the cat. He suffered smoke inhalation and was treated by paramedics.Another grandson told 10News his grandparents are devastated because they had lived at the home. He started a GoFundMe account to help them recover.The fire was knocked down in 15 minutes. Heartland Fire crews are investigating the cause.A Heartland Fire Battalion Chief who was responding to the fire collided with a car while exiting Interstate 8 at Mollison, El Cajon police said.No one was hurt, but both vehicles had to be towed. 782
Disney is allowing guests at Magic Kingdom to wear Halloween costumes for the first time during normal park hours.The park recently announced in a blog post that guests of all ages can wear costumes from Sept. 15 to Oct. 31.In June, the park canceled its annual Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party because of the coronavirus pandemic.But this year, guests would be able to get into the Halloween spirit with costumes, themed foods, and merchandise, the park said.According to the park's website, costumes cannot contain sharp objects, they must be family-friendly, they can't have weapons, and anyone over the age of 14 cannot wear a mask with their outfit.Guests under the age of 13 can wear a mask, but it cannot cover the entire face, and their eyes must be visible.The park said costumes that "reach or drag on the ground" such as "full-length princess dresses" are not allowed.The park also added that all guests must still wear a face-covering while at the park. 978
