SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- One person was shot in San Diego's Shelltown neighborhood Sunday afternoon, San Diego Police confirm.According to San Diego Police, the shooting happened just after noon at the La Michoacana grocery store located at 1702 Vesta Street. The suspect, a man in his 20s, pulled out a handgun and demanded money from the cash register.The owner, a 40-year-old man, opened the register and gave the man money, police said. The suspect went to a second cash register and demanded money. The employee opened the second register and gave the suspect money.As the suspect was turning to leave, the owner pulled out a handgun. The suspect turned to the owner and the owner shot the suspect twice, hitting him in the abdomen and in the wrist, police say.The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital, but police said his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. 879

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Nearly 140 pounds of liquid methamphetamine and two pounds of heroin were discovered inside a vehicle’s gas tank and spare tire at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry Monday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection says.According to the agency, the drugs were discovered after a detector dog alerted officers to the undercarriage of the vehicle around 4:30 a.m. Monday.Following the alert, officers guided the driver, a 52-year-old woman who is a citizen of Mexico and lawful U.S. resident, to a secure location for inspection.RELATED: Previously-deported sex offender arrested by Border Patrol in San DiegoThat’s when, according to CBP, officers found the drugs hidden inside the gas tank and spare tire.The driver was turned over to agents with Homeland Security Investigations while a 71-year-old female passenger was released.The narcotics are estimated to have a value of 5,000. 901

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - More than 50 free health classes could come to community centers and libraries across San Diego. It would be part of a sponsorship deal the city is considering with Sharp HealthCare, in which Sharp would pay the city 0,000 a year for the right to market as the city's "Health and Wellness Partner."Sharp currently offers classes, many of them free, but most are at Sharp facilities.This arrangement, going before a city committee Wednesday, and ultimately before the City Council, would call for six free classes a year in each of the nine council districts, from Otay Mesa to Rancho Bernardo. Dr. Eunice Sanchez-Mata, of Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group, said patients usually see her once or twice a year."We're here educating them as best as we can, but really that education should be year long," she said. The classes would impart key information on ways to prevent heart disease, quit smoking, live with diabetes, and manage stress. Topics would be geared to different areas of the city. . The three-year deal would be the city's first of its kind. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police were called to a La Jolla mansion known to host Airbnb parties for the second time in months following reports of wild and violent parties. Alysa Dale says the multi-million dollar mansion was the scene of a violent party packed with teenagers over the weekend. Amid the chaos, Dale says her 18-year-old daughter was brutally attacked. “Physically she’s fine, but mentally she’s broken. I have a broken child right now,” Dale said. RELATED: Gunfire reported during party at La Jolla mansionDale says she stopped by the home Sunday morning to get answers. “Broken light fixtures, urine on the floor, drug residue on tables. It was a scene.” She says the party was promoted on Snapchat. Hundreds of people paid each to get in. Dale says her daughter was jumped and knocked unconscious by five girls who were stealing party-goers cell phones. Dale says at least two people brandished handguns. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — More than one million of the 1.95 million mail-in ballots sent to San Diego registered voters have been returned, according to the county.The County Registrar of Voters said Friday they've received more than a million mail-in ballots back with four days left until Election Day.The Registrar said at the same time before the 2016 Presidential election, the county had only received 442,802 ballots back.Saturday, the county opened polling locations from Saturday, Oct. 31 through Monday, Nov. 2 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. All locations will be open again on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.Residents can locate their polling place online here. Voters can also check the back of their sample ballots and voter information pamphlets for assigned polling places.Anyone casting their ballot in person will be required to wear a face covering and to maintain physical distance at polling locations.Poll workers will have a face mask for anyone who forgets to bring on. Those unable or unwilling to wear a mask will be assisted outside to vote.The Registrar also reminds voters that campaigning or electioneering, which includes the visible display or audibly advocating for a candidate or measure, within 100 feet of a polling place or mail ballot drop-off location is prohibited. 1294
