She was trying to light me on fire and that's when I decided to run inside,” said Frausto.The incident happened in August, and it was all caught on her surveillance video.According to police reports, the suspect was identified as Araceli Soledad Aguilera and was arrested in August for aggravated assault, serious physical injury, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.According to MCSO, she was then released from custody.“I’ve seen her around here. She still comes around here, and she still has her fights with people here. She hasn’t stopped doing it,” said Frausto.A spokesperson for the Phoenix Police Department released the following statement:Phoenix Police Detectives assigned to the Bias Crimes Units investigated this incident and were able to determine the crime was biased motivated. The enhancement charge was submitted to the Maricopa County Attorney Office.But Carlos Galindo-Elvira with Chicanos por la Causa says changes are needed.“Should we be concerned? Absolutely. Should we be vigilant? Always. But we also need to make sure we’re promoting for our communities of color, LGBTQ and Muslim communities,” said Galindo-Elvira.According to the most recent report by the FBI, hate crimes against Hispanics or Latinos rose from 485 in 2018 to 527 last year.Based on this report, Arizona had 143 cases reported last year all over someone’s race, ethnicity or ancestry.Galindo-Elvira says the reality is that there could be more cases because usually, people in communities of color won’t report it.“We got to get better numbers. Not every jurisdiction reported hate crimes.”The FBI report says there were 111 racial or ethnic hate crimes in Phoenix last year. Of 92 participating agencies, only 17 submitted incident reports.“It’s a requirement to submit those numbers, but what we need it’s for our elected officials to mandate it. The movie BlacKkKlansman ends with real footage from the deadly “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, as well as President Donald Trump’s comments afterwards, saying there were “very find people on both sides.” Stallworth believes the president's words are, in part, why his story still resonates so much today. “He had an opportunity to be the moral conscience of this country in that precise defined moment, and he chose to equate hate with non-violent protesters,” Stallworth says. Stallworth views today's alt-right protesters in the same light as KKK members of decades past. “The alt-right doesn't sport white hoods and white sheets. They wear suit coats. They look like business people,” he says. “They don't have the stereotypical image of the southern racists that many of us grew up grew up on in the movie.” That's why he believes diversity in law enforcement, and connection with the community, is more important now than ever. “If you have a systemic evil in an organization like racism, one of the best ways to fight it is to become part of the organization fight it from within,” Stallworth says. “And that's what I was doing back at back in the day. It wouldn't be Fourth of July without fireworks, but the fireworks industry is now bracing itself for a potential bombshell in terms of their bottom lines if a trade deal with China isn't finalized. "If the 25 percent tariff is imposed on importing fireworks, it could have a devastating impact on the U.S. firework industry,” says Julie Heckman with the American Pyrotechnics Association. Heckman says President Trump's threat of a 25 percent tariff--or tax--on over 0 billion worth of Chinese goods could, if enacted, hurt the U.S. fireworks retailers. "In the U.S., we import 99 percent of our backyard fireworks from China, and over 75 percent of professional display fireworks,” explains Heckman. Any new tariff wouldn't have an impact on this year’s supply, but the fear is for the upcoming New Year’s Eve and Fourth of July in 2020. The costs associated with the new tariffs could be passed on to the consumer, as well as the thousands of cities nationwide that put on bigger displays. "We're really worried about the 16,000 Independence Day holidays that are put on in this country by small townships and municipalities that are already cash strapped,” says Heckman. “They’re struggling to have the money to fund their Fourth of July show. RICHMOND, Va. -- A 5.1 magnitude earthquake rattled parts of Virginia and North Carolina Sunday morning.There have been no immediate reports of damage, nor injuries.The earthquake was recorded at 8:07 a.m. and was centered near the state line in Sparta, North Carolina, about 300 miles southwest of Richmond.Sunday's earthquake is one of the biggest to impact Virginia since the 5.8-magnitude earthquake centered in Mineral, Virginia on August 23, 2011. And the largest earthquake in North Carolina since a 5.2 earthquake in 1916."According to the U.S. Geological Survey database, the 5.1 magnitude earthquake near Sparta this morning is the second strongest earthquake to occur in North Carolina 1900," the National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg Office wrote on Twitter.
