TULSA - Two women fought to stay alive as an armed robber broke into a midtown liquor store, the horrifying moments all caught on tape. Just one day after cheating death, when a man tried to a shatter a family for money, Justin Christian and his family are back to work. "You're not going to scare me off from my store this is what feeds my family this is what pays my bills," Owner of Forest Acres Liquor Justin Christian said. And customers were there not just to make purchases, but lay their eyes and hearts on the women who wouldn't give up without a fight. "I basically see a guy walk in the door from this angle and have a sawed off 12 gauge."Justin was out of town when his mother and sister took 36-year-old Tyrone Lee to task; now watching the video with us. "My mom says open the drawer, give him the money, give him the money."They gave him what he wanted then grabbed their guns, trying to lock him in the small room leading into the store.But one door didn't lock. "She's says stop, stop but he's still got the gun."He turns around, and that's when the fight to stay alive truly began. "He reached over, she ducked and fired again, and of course the gun's empty or else my mom and sister would be dead," Justin cried. He said Lee wanted to kill them. "What they're showing on TV ain't the real deal when you really watch it and know it and clean up the blood, and really understand what happened." He's just grateful it wasn't his family's blood he had to wipe from the floor. "The clerks did an outstanding job of fighting him," said Tulsa Police Sgt. Dave Walker. But more importantly he's grateful for another chance to fight for his family. Tulsa Police said Lee is in critical condition but he's expected to survive; and when he does he'll be under arrest.  1854

Tucson Police's Operation Division South Motor Squad took a different and non-traditional approach to help raise awareness for safe driving on Thursday.According to the department, mannequins were placed at different intersections around Tucson in an effort to lower collision statistics and urge drivers to pay better attention to their driving and what is around them. The mannequins were dressed like officers and placed in and around police vehicles near intersections that are or have been known for vehicle crashes.This is the first time TPD has utilized this method by using mannequins.Tucson Police said drivers can expect to see the mannequins out again Aug. 21 but the location has yet to be determined.  732

Two men who claim to be members of the Boogaloo Bois are facing federal charges for trying to help Hamas, a designated foreign terrorist organization.Boogaloo Bois and sub-groups are a loosely-connected group of people with violent anti-government stances; some members were seen at racial injustice demonstrations this summer wearing Hawaiian shirts and carrying long weapons. Many have a negative view of officers and government structure, advocating for the injury or death of police.Social media groups claiming to be part of the Boogaloo Bois movement have attracted attention this year and tens of thousands of members online, according to USA Today.Michael Solomon and Benjamin Teeter call themselves members of the group, and of a sub-group called Boojahideen, and were allegedly seen opening carrying firearms in residential neighborhoods in Minneapolis following the death of George Floyd and the demonstrations that followed.According to the FBI’s investigation of Solomon and Teeter, they “possessed firearms and substantial quantities of ammunition and that Solomon, Teeter, and other members of the Boogaloo Bois and Boojahideen discussed committing acts of violence against police officers and other targets in furtherance of the Boojahideen’s stated goal of overthrowing the government and replacing its police forces.” 1343

It's taking people four to six weeks to get see a vet in some cases.That has pet owners turning to pet emergency rooms to get care faster, but now those ERs are overwhelmed as well.It's a trend we're seeing nationwide.“Come in at 10 o’clock, there's eight or 10 cars out in the parking lot, because they can't get into see their veterinarian,” said Dr. Pat Kennedy Arrington, owner of Jefferson Animal Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. “Really is a perfect storm of activity right now of difficulty. Normally, we slow down in August and we haven't slowed down.While summer is typically a busy time for animal hospitals, Arrington says she’s seeing a lot of people she’s never seen before.DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital in Portland, Oregon, is seeing this demand as well. In July, their growth was up nearly 30% over the same time last year. In august it was still up 12%.People are having to wait two to six hours with their pets, even up to 10 hours in some cases.“The restriction for protocols of letting people in the building and staying outside and parking outside and having to do a lot of conversations over the phone, everything just takes longer to do,” said Ron Morgan, President and CEO of DoveLewis. “And that's in general practice too.”“Most people are very gracious and appreciative that we're here and mad at their vet for not seeing them in some cases,” said Arrington. “It's unlike anything we've ever seen before.”The number of people who have gotten pets during the pandemic is part of what is making them busier too. Also, with people at home more, they're noticing more potential issues with their pets.Cost is something you need to be aware of.
