(KGTV) - A crowd gathered in El Cajon to honor the life of a man, killed in a hit-and-run accident, on the day he was supposed to be married.Steven Johnson - a father of six and a grandfather - was riding his motorcycle to work at a Lakeside trucking company Friday, the 2nd, when he crashed around 5:30 a.m. on southbound Highway 67 just past Willows Road.He never recovered, and passed away Wednesday.Saturday, his fiancé Karlene Moen stood in front of friends and family at their wedding venue, complete with the cake and flowers, and told them how Johnson helped and inspired so many."It's amazing to see how many people's lives he actually did touch because I've always just heard about it and I've never actually seen it," Moen said. Johnson was a sponsor for drug addicts and alcoholics. He was sober almost 16 years, according to Moen. Several men told 10News they're only here today because of Johnson. They said they became sober because Johnson truly believed in them.Moen said she and her fiancé met at an NAA meeting, "he taught me how to live my life sober, he taught me how to love my kids sober, he taught me how to be a mom sober, he taught me how to be a friend sober."As she thought about her wedding day, tears filled her eyes, "we were supposed to be married today, I was supposed to take his hand and unite as one." Wiping away tears she continued, "It's messing me up, and I almost don't want to be here, because it hurts so bad, it, I feel pain in my chest."She fretted about their wedding day, saying a week before the big day she helped him get an outfit. "I didn't get to wear my wedding dress that I picked out especially for him, that I knew that when he looked at me that he would think that I was the most beautiful woman he's seen," she said mournfully.One lasting question in her mind, "I just want to know why? I just want to know what kind of a person you are to not even help him up off the road?"His family wants the woman who left the scene to turn her self in, or someone who knows what happened to come forward, to give them closure. 2098

During a town hall event on ABC on Tuesday night, President Donald Trump defended his administration's response to the COVID-19 pandemic and attempted to distance himself from his leaked admission that he "downplayed" the pandemic.During the event, hosted by George Stephanopoulos, Trump was repeatedly asked about the comments he made to journalist Bob Woodward in March that leaked earlier this month in which he said he wanted to "downplay" the pandemics so as "not to cause a panic."When Stephanopolous brought up the comments, Trump explained that he was simply saying he didn't "want to drive the nation into a panic.""I'm a cheerleader for this nation. I'm the one who closed up our country. I closed up the country long before any of the experts thought I should," Trump said.One study by Columbia University estimates that 36,000 lives could have been saved if the U.S. had locked down and adopted social distancing measures just one week sooner.When asked directly by an audience member about his comments to Woodward, Trump claimed his actions proved he "up-played" the pandemic."Well, I didn't downplay it. In many ways, I actually up-played it in terms of action. My action was very strong," Trump said.Trump pointed to travel restrictions he imposed to China on Feb. 2 and on Europe on March 13 as evidence that he "up-played" his response to the virus. Both restrictions still allowed some travel from the regions to enter the U.S.The President also questioned the effectiveness of masks during the event. While Trump said that he wears masks "in hospitals" and in other situations, he added that "a lot of people think the masks are not good."When asked to clarify, Trump identified "waiters" and restaurant servers in particular, adding that a server "the other day" had been fidgeting with a mask while touching his plate."That can't be good," Trump said.In a press briefing on Wednesday, Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said that Trump "agreed with Dr. Fauci" and was pointing out the "unintended consequences" of wearing masks and highlighting proper mask-wearing techniques.The President also explained his skepticism by citing recommendations from the CDC and Dr. Anthony Fauci from March against wearing masks. At the time, health officials did not recommend the use of masks over a fear of nationwide shortage. Since April, the CDC has recommended that all Americans wear masks when in situations where social distancing is difficult, and Fauci has admitted that "mixed messaging" on mask use by the government put the U.S. behind in its response to the virus.Trump also criticized Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden for not instituting a nationwide mask mandate, despite the fact that Biden does not currently hold public office."Like Joe Biden, they said they were going to do a national mandate on masks...he didn't do it. (KGTV) -- Dozens of dogs and cats landed in El Cajon today, after a flight from Louisiana to Gillespie Field. In July, rescue partners at Acadiana Animal Aid in Lafayette, LA helped rescue animals following floods in the area. This month, they've teamed up with the Wings of Rescue to help overcrowded shelters.  The 75 to 90 animals, mostly puppies will go to The Rescued Dog, Labradors and Friends Rescue, San Diego Humane Society, and the Rancho Coastal Humane Society. For more information on when the puppies will be up for adoption, head the Wings of Rescue Facebook page.? 634

EL CAJON (KGTV) – An El Cajon property owner said a police pursuit in March that ended at her property has led to questions over repairs.Jenny Wu has owned the property in the Villa Madera condominium complex on Mollison Avenue for more than a decade. On March 19, a vehicle crashed into her home, causing extensive damage.According to Wu, she had two elderly renters living there at the time of the crash, with one ending up in the hospital. She said she gave the information about what happened to her homeowner’s association immediately following the incident.More than five months after the crash, her property is still boarded up.Through her translator, she said the HOA wanted to investigate. Wu and her son said communication from the HOA and the property management company on the process to fix the condo has been spotty.Dan Zimberoff is an attorney who specializes in HOA matters.He is not involved in the case, but said the association typically insures common area.“When you have a singular affected homeowner like you do here, many times I see the association allows that homeowner have direct access with the adjuster. It just streamlines the processes and allows that direct communication,” Zimberoff said.Wu was one of the many temporarily laid off from her job at a local casino because of the pandemic. She still pays HOA fees at her condo, which adds up to roughly 0 per month.The president of Property Management Consultants said Team 10 has “been told many inconstancies [sic].” President Hugh Maynard said the insurance company would be contacting Team 10 with information, but the company never reached out. Maynard said the owner did not carry their own insurance and the HOA is paying the deductible.He added that they have kept the “family up on every turn of events” and showed Team 10 emails as proof. Wu’s son, who has been helping his mother with communication, admitted there have been emails exchanged with the property management company, but it has not been consistent.Maynard said the insurance company was controlling the rebuild, adding that the City of El Cajon condemned the unit.A spokesperson for the City of El Cajon confirmed the unit was tagged as structurally unsafe and permits will be required to repair it.
