How would you like to make an extra ,000 a week doing easy tasks you already know how to do? Smartphone applications are making things easy for those looking to make money at home.If you love dogs, ‘Wag’ is for you. The app is like Uber for dog walkers. Rocio Irun uses the ‘Wag’ app on her free time walking other people’s dogs.“I love dogs this app was an opportunity for me to make some extra income on the side and spend time with puppies,” Irun said. It’s easy to sign up for the app. Irun said, it’s competitive once you become a walker.“It’s hard because there are a lot of people dog walking, so you will have to compete against those other people and be really fast at accepting a dog walk," Irun said. If walking dogs isn’t your thing, there are other task apps to try. ‘Gigwalk’ will connect you with nearby businesses looking for extra help. ‘IPoll’ will pay you to take surveys. ‘Loot’ will have you taking pictures of your favorite brands and post them all over social media. Then there is ‘Task Rabbit.’ The app will allow you to sign up for a wide range of jobs like, putting together a dresser, yard work, cleaning or mounting a piece of art on a wall for someone. All of these apps notify you when a potential job opens up near by. You then select the one you want. Then, confirm the details with your client. After that, you simply show up and do the task to get paid.  1405

In a pandemic that relies heavily on the expertise and passion of our healthcare workers, we have seen many doctors and nurses working longer hours and even risking their own health to care for those in need.“This is a pandemic that's going to continue to go on. And a lot of health care providers in different settings have already been asked to work overtime shifts or extra shifts. And the thing is, that’s just increasing the burnout,” said Dr. Jessica Rainbow, RN and UArizona College of Nursing assistant professor.“Before the pandemic burnout was already a normalized issue in Nursing. And what I mean by that is that more nurses than not experienced burnout than those who have what I would call good well-being and don't suffer from burnout,” said Chloe Littzen, RN and UArizona College of Nursing Ph.D. candidate.Rainbow and Littzen are seeking ways to mitigate nurse burnout during the coronavirus pandemic. They say the pandemic has only intensified the problem.“They either leave the setting that they're in. Let's say they're in one unit, they go to another unit. They leave that facility going from, let's say, the hospital setting to the community setting or vice versa, or they leave nursing completely,” said Littzen. That puts the industry in a tough spot. The nursing shortage also affects the ability to educate future nurses and the ability to do more research.“It's important to say that this is not an issue that is the nurse's fault right or any healthcare provider or anyone who works in a healthcare setting,” said Rainbow. From their research, they say health care workers are shown to have good self-care, but it’s the systems of the work environment that can be stressful.“Where they're actually given the resources that they need to be successful. So resources as far as things like PPE, things like having adequate staffing,” said Rainbow. They say a big factor is also the public. Loved ones of those in care can help by being understanding and by adhering to guidelines, such as wearing a mask.“You know, it's important to give grace and struggling times and everyone's emotions are heightened and stressed and you know nurses are people, too. They're also a human being and they're also suffering with you,” said Littzen. They found nurses have done things like meditation, spending more time in nature, and seeking peer groups to voice shared experiences.“Social support is huge for nurses. I mean, especially to when you were a provider and you have a job where your significant other at home may not fully understand what you do. And so it's difficult sometimes if you don't have the social support of other co-workers in the same position,” said Rainbow.Rainbow’s study is called “Working in Healthcare During the COVID-19 Pandemic. Participants can access the consent form with study information online or contact her for more information. Littzen’s dissertation study is called “Young Adult Nurse Work-Related Well-being, Contemporary Practice Worldview, Resilience, and Co-Worker Support.”This story was first reported by Taja Davis at KGUN in Tucson, Arizona. 3106

Images from Niagara Falls are going viral online, showing the stark difference in how Canadian and American companies and customers are handling social distancing guidance during the pandemic. The pictures and videos being shared compare two boats, one with a lot of people onboard and one with very few people onboard. The Canadian tour boats are seen with hardly any people onboard, while the American boats have people shoulder-to-shoulder. @samatha.1617 Niagara Falls, the Canadian boat versus the American boat ##maidofthemist ##canada ##niagarafalls ##fyp? Titanic - Titanic For those not familiar with the international site along the New York-Ontario border, on the American side is a company operating boat tours called Maid of the Mist which gives its passengers blue rain ponchos and on the Canadian side is Hornblower Cruises which gives their riders red ponchos.Maid of the Mist recently posted on Twitter thanking their customers for social distancing. 977

If it's hard to understand how a service member could end up on the streets, listen to Chris Perry's story.“When I got out, my transition back into civilian life didn’t work out too well," Perry said. "I became homeless for about five or six years and kept getting into a lot of trouble."Perry battled addiction when he left the Marine Corps after eight years of service. He is an Iraq War veteran, who enlisted in the Marine Corps as soon as he could.“I joined when I was 17. My mama had to sign a paper to let me go in early," Perry recalled. When he left the military, he found himself lost in the country he swore to protect.“Honestly, I didn’t see any light at the end of my tunnel," Perry said.Finding that light can take a village, and for Perry, it's not a figure of speech. The tiny homes of Kansas City's Veterans Community Project are a unique approach to the all-too-common problem of veteran homelessness.Army Veteran Brandonn Mixon, who served in Afghanistan, is one of the founders of the Veterans Community Project, and he knows the challenges so many veterans face.“The most successful I’ve ever been was in the military. When I came back home, I couldn’t adjust. I couldn’t transition out of the military mentality back to the civilian-life mentality," Mixon said. The veterans who live in the village get to keep everything inside their tiny home, and the staff helps connect them with services so they can move forward. While some nonprofits may consider factors like whether a veteran looking for help was honorably discharged from the military to join this community, the promise at the core of service is what matters most.“By veteran, I mean, you raised your right hand, you took the oath to serve your country, you could have served one day or 100 years; you’re a veteran in our book," said Bryan Meyer, one of the founders of Veterans Community Project who served in the Marine Corps and was deployed to Iraq in 2003 and 2005.The tiny homes model is expanding nationwide. The Veterans Community Project broke ground on a new village in Longmont, Colorado. The expansion is important because each veteran, like Chris Perry who is now enrolled in community college, is now on the right path.“They got me to a point where there is no going back, so it’s just straightforward from here," Perry said. However, there are still people who took the oath to protect this country and living on its streets in need of help."I know there is a veteran who is sleeping on the streets. There is a veteran crying right now, wanting to commit suicide because there’s nobody who has his back. I’m not going to lie, we’re not going to be done until we find that veteran," Mixon said. "We save his life, we have his back, because he would do that for me, and I owe it to do it for him.” 2794

Her son is going to be on Greenmount her son right here he’s going to be on Pratt and Monroe.”The court started small but at this orientation, the number of young employees grew to over ten.“I kept seeing kids on their bikes kids they trying to get out. They ain’t trying to hear this stay in the house stuff.. everybody calling me like yo I’m tired of my kids, take my kids from me.”Ameen Bailey got the job because his mom reached out.“The funnel cake king he basically like a father figure to all the kids,” Ameen said. “He hires people so they don’t gotta be on the corner. He shows us how to make our own businesses and how to progress more.”His brother Amir Bailey will be working with him.“I’m learning how to keep myself in check, how to interact with others, and how to keep my areas clean,” Amir said. The head that bears the crown didn’t come this way. Before starting his first snowball stand outside of the Terra Cafe Benbow Jr. was in prison for 7 years.Taking that time to grow.“I want to barber school, computer repair, fiber optics,” Benbow Jr. said. “Got half of my degree in sociology so that means I know how to speak to individuals.”Jordan Matthews was the first Knight to join the court.“He’s a black-owned business and he’s helping people by taking them off the streets and helping them work and get that money for the summer and stuff,” Matthews said.Benbow Jr. said he kept coming around so he offered him a job.“Now Jordan is able to run all run operations by himself,” said Benbow Jr. “He doesn’t need no adult no supervision or anything out here.”Every Knight gets a binder with a schedule and the 3 simple principals they have to abide by.Check your hygiene and appearance always.Make eye contact with customers and number one- no belt no work.“We can’t get upset at nobody else if we’re not physically doing it,” said Benbow Jr. “If we’re not physically grabbing them and putting the belts on them. If we’re not putting notebooks in their hands.”Isiah Johnson is 13 and this is his first chance to earn a paycheck.“Just making me more responsible and teaching me how to save money and get it.”Grooming the brightest gems under his crown to build their own empires.“Helping my mom out around the house and outside,” said Kalani Bowen. “Make some money for myself, but also help my mom pay bills and stuff.”“I’m in JOTC right now so I want to go to the Army,” Ameen said.Dorrian Vaughn is the youngest knight at 10-years-old.He’s looking forward to learning and hopes he learns principals to carry with him when he gets his dream job way down the road.“A police officer either that or a fireman,” Vaughn said. There’s only so much ground one king can cover, and Benbow Jr. hopes more people take our young royalty and build them up.“Grabbing them while they are young pulling them in teaching them all that we can teach them and pass them to the next entrepreneur.”If you’re hungry from this article and want to find the Funnel Cake King follow him on any social media platform.WMAR's Eddie Kadhim first reported this story. 3505
