MILWAUKEE, Wis. – When Dawn Nadboralski lost her father, a sharpshooter with the US Army, it broke her heart. “I’m a daddy’s girl,” she said. “I’m the only child, so when he passed, it hit me really hard.” To help herself heal, Nadboralski went into her dad’s garage and started using his tools – turning old wooden pallets into American flags. “It takes probably about an hour and a half and I paint them by hand,” she said. “I feel like in a way, it’s honoring my father.” And at the same time, it’s honoring the lives of men that fought for this country. Nadboralski sells the flags and donates that money to Forest Home Cemetery to buy headstones for Civil War soldiers who have unmarked graves. “We don’t leave anyone behind even if they’re gone,” said Thomas Ludka, a military veteran. Ludka and Maraget Berres work to find unmarked graves. The headstones are free but cost 5 to install – money they say is well worth it. “A man like him helped destroy slavery.” Ludka said while pointing out a gravesite of a Civil War soldier. “His life meant something. His service meant something. He should not be forgotten.” So far, Nadboralski has sold 33 flags – raising enough money to buy 13 headstones. “I feel like this is just a small thing I can do to give back,” she said. Nadboralski’s big goal is to raise enough money to buy every unmarked grave a headstone. “I do it all in my dad’s garage and I use his tools,” she said. “So, it’s kind of like he’s here helping me.”To find out more about the American flags, email Nadboralski at 1560

The holidays may be a bit different this year but New York City will still look like Christmas soon enough. The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree has been selected and will soon be on its way to Manhattan. The massive tree stands at about 100 feet tall and hails from Oneonta in Upstate New York, where it currently stands under 24-hour surveillance until crews cut it down for the trip to the Big Apple.A likely scaled-back version of the annual Rockefeller Center tree lighting ceremony is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 4."We want that to be a great experience," Mayor Bill de Blasio said at his daily briefing Tuesday. However, considering the pandemic, things will likely be done a bit differently to prohibit too much crowding throughout the holiday season."We'll get an update on how it will be handled, but we will take proper precautions," they mayor assured.A magnificent decorated Christmas tree has been lit and on display in Rockefeller Center every year since 1933. LAKE POWELL, Utah — A baby from St. George has set the record for the youngest child to water-ski, his family says.Casey and Mindi Humpherys posted a photo and a video of 6-month-old Rich skiing at Lake Powell on Instagram earlier this week, captioned "I went water skiing for my 6 month birthday. Apparently that’s a big deal… #worldrecord" on an account dedicated to photos of the boy growing up and going on outdoor adventures. His parents, on their own individual Instagram accounts, specified that Rich was six months and four days old at the time — beating the youngest-known record by six days. The previous record was set by Auburn Absher in 2016 at six months and 10 days old, according to reports from BuzzFeed and ABC News. No official records are available for the youngest child to water-ski."Take one look at this kid and tell me he isn’t having the time of his life! Such a little stud!" his dad added. Two sets of human remains found in the backyard of Chad Daybell's property have been confirmed to be those of JJ Vallow and Tylee Ryan.According to a news release Saturday from the Rexburg Police Department in Idaho, the medical examiner's office confirmed their identities after performing an autopsy.Earlier this week, family members said in a statement that they were informed the remains were JJ and Tylee, who were reported missing last year. J & Tylee are gone, Joshua Vallow's grandparents confirm. #JJVallow #TyleeRyan pic.twitter.com/XGPNMbK7U0— Marc Sternfield (@msternfield) June 10, 2020 Police said Wednesday that two bodies were found Tuesday on Daybell's Idaho property during the execution of a search warrant. An official cause of death hasn't been released. The children's grandparents released a statement saying the family was "filled with unfathomable sadness" and could confirm that the bodies were JJ and Tylee. Daybell was taken into custody Tuesday and appeared in court Wednesday when a judge set a million bail. He is currently jailed on charges of “destruction, alteration or concealment of evidence."A prosecutor said during Wednesday's initial court appearance that they were aware the remains were that of children, but at that time officials had not yet fully identified them. Lori Daybell, Chad's current wife, has remained in jail on a million bail as authorities continued the search for JJ and Tylee. She has been in jail since February.Authorities in Arizona had also been investigating two deaths tied to the case -- Lori Daybell's fourth husband, Charles Vallow, as well as her brother, Alex Cox.
