BEIJING, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping Friday stressed efforts to promote outstanding officials at the grassroots who had tirelessly performed official duties honestly and diligently for the people.Xi, also a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Part of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks while addressing a meeting of officials at CPC organization departments across the country.CPC's organization departments are responsible for work concerning the selection of party cadres.From 2011 to the first half of 2012, the current leadership of the CPC's provincial, municipal, county, and township level committees will be re-elected.Stressing the importance of the re-election, Xi said the year 2011 also marks the 90th anniversary of CPC's founding and the inaugural year for implementation of the 12th Five Year Plan, China's development blueprint covering the coming five years from 2011-2015.He urged party authorities to select and promote only those cadres who have both political integrity and professional competence.Further, Xi called for improved supervision over officials, especially those in key positions including heads of party committees or governments, chiefs of law enforcement agencies, and those in charge of personnel changes, money and materials, and other critical areas.He said he hoped that the re-election would further strengthen the leadership of the CPC in China and help contribute to the country's social and economic development in the coming five years.

BEIJING, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang has urged the country to offer better services for the disabled.Li made the remarks Friday while visiting the Care and Rehabilitation Expo, a three-day international exhibition on equipment to assist disabled and aged people.Friday marked the International Day for Persons with Disabilities. China's disabled population exceeds 83 million. Li called for more efforts to care for the disabled in a bid to improve their quality of life.Further, the vice premier said the country would improve laws and regulations regarding the disabled and increase support of policies and fund input to serve the disabled population in better ways.Better services for disabled people would include improving the quality of public services, making more areas handicapped accessible, and assisting the needy and safeguarding their rights and interests in a bid to solving difficulties in their living, studying, and medical requirements, Li said.The expo, organized by the China Disabled Persons' Federation and the General Office of the National Aging Committee, brought together more than 200 manufacturers from 17 countries and regions, according to statistics released by the organizing committee.
BEIJING, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- Top political advisor Jia Qinglin called for closer financial ties between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan while meeting with Fredrick Chien, the head of a Taiwan finance delegation here on Thursday.Jia, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People' s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said that financial cooperation was crucial for the cross-Straits economic bond. BEIJING, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- China will launch a training project for all procuratorial personnel in the country to promote their work, according to an official of the Supreme People' s Procuratorate (SPP).Procuratorial agencies should have more staff with master' s or doctor' s degrees, and by 2020, procuratorial staff with bachelor' s degrees should make up at least 80 percent of the total members in the country' s less-developed west regions, Hu Zejun, executive deputy procurator-general of the SPP, said at a national conference on procuratorial personnel in Beijing on Monday.Further, there should be at least half of the staff in all grassroots-level procuratorates who are college graduates by 2020, Hu said.As of 2009, over 75 percent of the procuratorial staff in China had received bachelor' s degrees or above, an increase from some 53 percent in 2004, according to a statement released at the conference.Hu also called for more efforts to attract high-quality procuratorial personnel, promote the ability of the staff in grassroots procuratorial organs and provide more training for young procurators.
