SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 55-year-old homeless man who was attacked with a skateboard while sleeping in North Park has died, San Diego Police said.Arthur Angulo was sleeping in alley in the 2800 block of El Cajon Boulevard  at around 4:30 a.m. Saturday when a man bashed him repeatedly with a skateboard, according to police.  Angulo suffered ``visible signs of major trauma to his upper body,'' San Diego police homicide Lt. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 79-year-old woman struck while crossing a Mira Mesa intersection is expected to recover from her injuries, San Diego Police said Monday. The woman was walking north in the crosswalk of Mira Mesa Boulevard and Black Mountain Road about 5 a.m. when she was struck by a male driver, police said. Officers reported the woman suffered a fractured pelvis, open fracture to the right tibia, and head injuries. She was taken to the hospital. The crash shattered the driver’s windshield. He was not hurt. Traffic backed up for several hours during the morning commute for the investigation. Police have not yet determined who was at fault. 659

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Voters will decide whether a controversial North County housing development goes forward, the Board of Supervisors decided Tuesday.After a public hearing, the board voted 4-0 -- Ron Roberts was absent -- to place the Newland Sierra project on the March 3, 2020, ballot. The board's action came two months after a Sept. 26 vote amending several provisions in the county general plan that allowed for Newland Communities to build in the Miriam Mountains area, directly west of Interstate 15 and near the cities of Escondido, San Marcos and Vista. The proposed development is in an area noted for wildlife and a tranquil ambience. The development would also feature 81,000 square feet of commercial space, a six-acre school site, 35.87 acres of public and private parks, 19.2 miles of multi- use community trails, an equestrian staging area and 1,209 acres of open space. The project would include numerous eco-friendly features, including solar panels, electric-vehicle charging stations, xeriscaping and gray-water systems, according to the developers. Opponents gathered roughly 117,000 signatures and presented their petition to the county. Rita Brandin, senior vice president and development director of Newland Communities, told the supervisors the company is confident that voters ``will embrace the plan when they hear the truth and many benefits.'' SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 2-year-old girl allegedly abducted by her father in Chollas View, triggering an area Amber Alert, was found safe in Escondido Tuesday morning, San Diego police said.According to police, young Charli-Fae Harris was last seen with her father, Lafayette Harris, in the 1000 block of 47th Street at around 5:30 p.m. Monday.Police were notified of the girl’s disappearance by her mother. SDPD officials confirmed 31-year-old Lafayette Harris is under a restraining order related to domestic violence.After an Amber Alert was issued for the child and her father, police located Harris’ white Saturn vehicle in a parking garage near UC San Diego shortly before 6 a.m. However, Harris and his daughter were nowhere to be found.Harris was eventually tracked down at a construction site near UC San Diego Health System in La Jolla. ABC 10News learned Harris, who works at the construction site, was taken into custody without incident.Charli-Fae was found safe just before 8:15 a.m. in an Escondido apartment. Escondido Police said a woman connected to the child's father was watching the news when she realized she had the child police were looking for in her care, so she then called police to alert them. It's unclear if she knew the child had been taken.The girl will be reunited with her mother later Tuesday.Police said Harris will most likely face kidnapping charges and charges related to violating the restraining order against him, and said there could be more charges added as the investigation continues. 1536

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The Utah football team arrived in San Diego Wednesday and practiced at Mesa College in Clairemont, five days before facing Northwestern in Monday's Holiday Bowl. The Utes bowl week itinerary includes a joint visit with the Wildcats to U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt on Friday and a trip to the San Diego Zoo on Saturday. The Northwestern team is staying at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina in downtown San Diego and practicing at Southwestern College in Chula Vista. The Wildcats will visit SeaWorld on Saturday.
