Nothing will ruin your night more than finding out your car's been towed.That's exactly what's happened more than 1,000 times since the city converted Fifth Avenue to a three-minute passenger loading zone after 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights in September 2016. "They really don't ask questions around here," said Vanessa Figueroa, who hands out fliers for Gaslamp BBQ on the corner of 5th and Island every Friday and Saturday nights. "If you're parked here, your car's gone."The city made the change to reduce gridlock, boost emergency response times, and make passenger drop-offs safer. But that's also meant a lot of towing. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - It’s a win-win situation: a sale on airfares out of San Diego, with an ultimate destination of Hawaii. Southwest Airlines opened its flight schedule Wednesday for once-daily service out of San Diego. The flights travel to Kahului, Maui, starting Apr. 14, 2020. Flights to Honolulu begin Apr. 20, 2020, Southwest reports. Fares as low as 9 each way will be available on both routes for travel between Apr. 14 and June 4, 2020, according to the airline. The tickets must be purchased Oct. 30. "We're grateful for the steadfast loyalty of our San Diego Customers and we're adding a Southwest heading to their compass of nonstop options," said Andrew Watterson, Executive Vice President & Chief Revenue Officer for Southwest Airlines. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- It's a problem on the rise in communities across San Diego; drivers racing down side streets to avoid rush hour traffic. When Doug Doyen saw speeding on his street, he tried to stop it. "It was almost like the Indy 500 I couldn't believe the speed, the amount of traffic and speed up and down this street," said Doyen.He put up his own signs to get drivers to slow down. "Hold the sign out, wave at them, people would be like, 'what the? Oh okay."' said Doyen. "And they'd look at me like, 'who is this guy?'" But the speeding is still a problem. He thinks GPS apps are directing drivers to his side street to avoid freeway traffic. "I couldn't believe the traffic and the speeds I was seeing out here," he said. Neighbors joined San Diego Police to form a Pace Car Program. The citizen-based campaign adds more signs and traffic patrols in the neighborhood.  937

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Many of the 134 cats rescued from a Lakeside apartment are up for adoption in County animal shelters. Sheriff’s deputies who were conducting a welfare check at the apartment Thursday discovered the cats and called animal services.Most of the animals appear to be healthy and well-fed, though stand-offish at the moment.  RELATED: 'Dozens' of cats found inside Lakeside apartment during elderly neglect callThe adoptable animals are at the shelters in Bonita and Carlsbad.  All have been checked out by the veterinary staff and given flea and worm medicines.  Each will be spayed or neutered and chipped before adoption.  The adoption fee is per cat or kitten. 745
