CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- Chula Vista Police have arrested six suspects in an assault with a deadly weapon and robbery of a 16-year-old boy that occurred at a Chula Vista restaurant last Thursday, law enforcement officials announced.Police officials said that four juveniles and two adults, all of whom are suspected of participating in the April 11 attack, were taken into custody on Wednesday. Four of the suspects, aged between 15- and 17-years-old, attended Morse High School and have since been suspended.The two adult suspects, Kent Pasunting, 18, and Aldrin Uy, 19, attended Mark Twain High School, an alternative/continuation high school with a campus located at Morse High School. The victim and family, along with representatives of the Cotixan restaurant, all cooperated in the investigation. Officials with the San Diego Unified School District helped police to identify the attackers," said Chula Vista Police Department Captain Phil Collum.The incident was captured on cell phone video and posted to social media by the teen's mother. All six suspects were identified, in part, by the video, Collum said.The family says their teen was waiting for his mom to pick him up at Cotixan Mexican Restaurant last Thursday after school, when a group of teens walked in and started kicking and punching the boy.In the video, you can see someone on the ground getting repeatedly punched and kicked. He says everything started days before on Instagram, when, he says, his son told someone to stop harassing one of his friends. Martin says one teen then started messaging his son telling him he was going to beat him up.Martin says the incident was reported to Chula Vista Police but he's worried the teens will get away with what they did.Collum said the dispute began last month when the victim and suspect got into a heated exchange on social media over comments made to one of the victim’s friends. "On April 11th the victim and his girlfriend were sitting at the Cotixan restaurant when the suspects walked-in unexpectedly," Collum said. "Police believe the suspects entered the restaurant with the intent to attack the victim.""The suspects confronted the victim and the group began assaulting him," Collum said.The victim suffered a fractured left wrist. 2745

CINCINNATI — Cross-country runner Justin Gallegos is making history. He’s the first athlete with cerebral palsy to sign an endorsement contract with Nike. The University of Oregon junior was given the news last weekend after a college race, and he was visibly touched by achieving his dream of becoming a professional runner. Justin’s parents, Brent and Tracy Gallegos, say they’re proud all Justin has worked to achieve, and were stunned to see him in that moment."I’ve never seen him that emotional ever…..ever," Brent Gallegos said.Justin’s condition affects muscle and motor function, but he didn’t let that stop him."He works very hard for it and when he sets his goals, he sets them very high," Tracy Gallegos said.His story of overcoming obstacles is inspiring others. He was a big topic of conversation among some medical professionals attending a three-day conference for the American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine hosted by Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. (KGTV) - A vandal that struck overnight in a Chula Vista neighborhood was apparently targeting high-end vehicles.The Jovel family first noticed something was wrong Sunday morning in front of their home along Via Escalante."Upsetting and bizarre," said Jesse Jovel.His sister saw a flat tire on his Mercedes SUV parked in the driveway and ran inside to tell him about it. Jovel came outside, saw the flat, but then found much more: scratches across the body and tires of the Mercedes."I thought it was not happening, that it was a joke," said Jovel.They ran to the street, where his sister's Mercedes was parked. "Her car was the same way, and the car behind it and the car behind it," said Jovel.One of those cars was Jovel's other vehicle, a Maserati Ghibli. It was also keyed all over. Two of its tires were sliced and flattened."Sad. Very sad that people are willing to do this just for the heck of it," said Jovel.Jovel says a total of at least six other vehicles were targeted. He barely looked at the others but remembers them being new and high-end vehicles. Children should ride in rear-facing car seats until they reach the height or weight limit for the seat, according to updated recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics.This changes the academy's previous guidance, which said children should ride in rear-facing seats until at least age 2. The new recommendation eliminates the age-specific milestone to turn a child's car seat around.Car seat manufacturers are making seats that allow children to remain rear-facing until they reach 40 pounds, Dr. Benjamin Hoffman, lead author of the academy's updated guidelines, said in a statement."It's best to keep your child rear-facing as long as possible," Hoffman, chairman of the academy's Council on Injury, Violence and Poison, said in the statement. "This is still the safest way for children to ride."By using the proper car seat, the risk of death or serious injury is lowered by more than 70%, according to the academy. All children younger than 13 years should be in a vehicle's back seat, it said.Parents can find height and weight limits for a car seat in the instruction manual.Once children reach the height or weight limit and shift to a forward-facing seat, they should use safety seats with harnesses for as long as possible, often up to 65 pounds, the pediatricians' group said.
