SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Flames tore through a Mira Mesa home Wednesday afternoon, causing extensive damage, injuring a firefighter and displacing five residents.The blaze erupted for unknown reasons shortly before 2 p.m. in the 10100 block of Embassy Way, just west of Camino Ruiz, the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department reported.All the occupants of the house were able to safely get outside prior to the arrival of emergency crews, according to SDFRD public affairs.Watch firefighters battle the fire below:Firefighters arrived to find the residence engulfed in flames. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A motorist was killed in a fiery solo vehicle crash off Interstate 5 in the Barrio Logan area, authorities said Monday.The crash was reported shortly after 9:30 p.m. Sunday on southbound I- 5 near Cesar E. Chavez Parkway, California Highway Patrol Officer Tommy Strickland said.Investigators determined a pickup truck hit the center divide, then went down an embankment before ending up on a nearby street and catching fire, Strickland said.The truck's driver was pronounced dead at the scene, but no details about the victim were immediately available.The crash shut down the right two lanes near Cesar Chavez Parkway until about 11:45 p.m. Sunday. 675

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities Tuesday publicly identified a 71-year-old man who was killed in a collision at a Rancho Bernardo intersection.John Atcheson of San Diego was turning from Meandro Drive onto Rancho Bernardo Road when an eastbound 2001 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck crashed into his 2018 Chevrolet Volt shortly before 6:30 p.m. Monday, according the county Medical Examiner's Office.Medics took Atcheson to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, where he was pronounced dead.The other motorist, a 23-year-old woman, was hospitalized for treatment of broken bones, police said. 590
SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An alleged drunken driver accused of running over and fatally injuring a co-worker, who was trying to prevent her from driving home following a night out in Kearny Mesa, was charged Tuesday with murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and hit-and-run causing death. Latisha Ingram, 33, is accused in the death last Thursday night of 25- year-old Ha Minh Ta.Deputy District Attorney Phillippa Cunningham said Ingram was charged with second-degree murder because she has a 2010 DUI conviction in Orange County.According to the prosecutor, Ingram and Ta met up with other co-workers for after-dinner drinks and the defendant, ``against the advice of friends,'' decided to try and drive home.RELATED: San Diego police: Man run over, killed after argument in Kearny Mesa parking lotIngram got into an argument with Ta about 11:30 p.m. in a parking lot in the 4600 block of Convoy Street, and she allegedly started to drive away while he was still holding onto her car. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man was killed Saturday when an SUV overturned and crashed into a tree on the Sea World Drive on-ramp to northbound Interstate 5, the California Highway Patrol said.The accident happened about 9 a.m. when a white Cadillac Escalade luxury SUV, traveling at a high rate of speed according to one witness, overturned and hit a tree on the right shoulder of the Sea World Drive on-ramp, according to CHP Officer Salvador Castro.Units from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department were also on the scene, near the Tecolote Canyon Natural Park and Nature Center.The CHP had no immediate information on the identity of the victim. Castro said nobody else was in the SUV at the time of the crash.Traffic on Sea World Drive and northbound I-5 was reported to be slowing. The CHP will investigate the cause of the accident. 837
