ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) - Three weeks after the deadly bluff collapse in Encinitas, the community is urging city and state leaders to make some changes.Three women were killed during the collapse. A tribute was held this week at the Encinitas City Council meeting for the victims. That’s where father and husband Pat Davis spoke out, saying healing will take time. “There will be a new normal in my life without these three gifted women,” says Davis. Davis lost his wife Julie, daughter Anne Clave, and wife’s sister in the bluff collapse. The family was out for a day at the beach on August 2 when the sand and large rocks came crashing down. “We do not have to accept tragedy if it is preventable.”Davis is urging the city to stabilize the bluff by adding concrete walls against the cliffs, sand replenishment or even cutting off some public access to the beach. Some California lawmakers are pushing for the government to pay for the stabilization after congress approved the Storm Damage Project in 2016. It has sat idle since being approved. “I do not want to see what happened to my family happen ever again.”The mayor and other city leaders toured the beaches with representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Thursday, but so far no decisions have been made.  1315

Facebook announced today it is removing hundreds of pages and accounts run by people in the U.S. who are spreading misinformation.The social media platform's staff identified 559 pages and 251 accounts, and among those is Right Wing News, which has more than 3 million followers, the New York Times reports. Left-wing pages identified in the group include the Resistance and Reverb Press (816,000 followers).It's the most domestic accounts and pages Facebook has removed, officials with the platform said. They violate the rules about online spam, and are financially motivated, according to the NY Times report.False narratives on social media were once known as something mostly done by Russian-linked operatives. It's now become something created more in the U.S., the Times said.Researchers said it's harder to root out false information that's from the U.S. than foreign countries. ESCONDIDO (KGTV) - Employees of an Escondido golf course are frustrated and at their breaking point after their boss missed August 3rd's paycheck.UPDATE: Business owner paid employees missed and upcoming paycheck.Employes of the?Castle Creek Golf Course & Country Club said they heard their boss had a stroke on the first of the month and that was what caused the pay to be late. Employees were too afraid to speak on camera but said it wasn't the first time payment has been delayed.Golfers also said they've seen the course deteriorate since Osama Alkasabi took ownership in October.An employee said several people have already quit and some have their final day on the job this week.Alkasabi also owns two OAAI gas stations. Employees there vehemently defended Alkasabi but confirmed they hadn't been paid either. Employees there said Alkasabi had heart surgery."They missed only one, and that wasn't intentional," Alkasabi said over the phone. He blamed the delay on a car accident. "My car landed over the curb, and I arrived at the hospital here and had head surgery to make sure there is no bleeding, no fracture or damage," he said that happened August 1 off SR-78 near the Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside.10News spoke with Oceanside Police and California Highway Patrol and neither have records of a crash in that area for the entire week.Alkasabi's gas stations are running out of gas. The pumps at Ninth Avenue and Centre City Parkway only had one kind of gas for sale.At the station off Midway Drive and Valley Parkway, the pumps were draped with caution tape.Alkasabi blames the prior owners."They did not renew or apply for the licensing permit from the APCD," he said.The Air Pollution Control District requires gas stations to maintain permits to operate. The permits must be renewed annually, and employees say Alkasabi has owned the stations for at least four years.Alkasabi made this promise to all his employees, "receive the check tomorrow by 1:15 p.m. for all three periods, although there is one period missing. So we're making a cushion for the next two weeks."He promised along with three paychecks, one for the missed cycle, one for this week and one in advanced, that he'll give each employee a 0 bonus.He also promised several improvements to the golf course and that gas will be available at his pumps soon. 2427

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) — One person is dead and a driver is at large following a hit-and-run collision in Escondido.A vehicle collided with a bicyclist on La Honda Road north of El Norte Parkway at about noon, according to the Escondido Police Department."The rider was wearing a helmet, and we are still investigating the cause as to what happened and how the car and bicyclist crashed," Lt. Scott Walters with the Escondido Police Department said. The cyclist was part of a larger group going southbound on La Honda Drive. Witnesses of the crash saw the 36-year-old victim from Vista fly off his mountain bike and die at the scene. Investigator said the driver of the car never stopped and continued going northbound on La Honda Drive. A short while later, investigators got a break in the case. The mangled car was spotted on the 600-block of Aster Street, just a half-mile away from the crash site. 10News spoke to neighbors watching the commotion, who said they did not recognize the sedan. The victim's identity was not immediately released.Police advised the public to avoid the area for about five hours after the crash. Access to Dixon Lake and Daley Ranch Recreation Areas was closed, but hikers and bikers were able to access Daley Ranch through Cougar Pass in north Escondido, police added. 1312
