A man killed four people during a stabbing rampage in Southern California before officers found his car parked outside a 7-Eleven convenience store and arrested him, authorities said.In addition to the people killed, the attacker left two wounded in multiple crime scenes in Garden Grove and Santa Ana, police said.The victims killed included two people at the suspect's apartment complex, a 7-Eleven security guard and one more person at a Subway restaurant.Apartment stabbings: 2 killedThe mayhem started Wednesday when police received a burglary call shortly after 4 p.m. local time, Garden Grove police Lt. Two people said they'd come home and found their apartment burglarized.As officers prepared to respond to the apartment burglary, another call came in about 20 minutes later about a robbery at a bakery in Garden Grove in which an unknown amount of cash was taken.The same suspect broke into the apartment then drove his silver Mercedes to the bakery, police said. From the bakery, he returned to the apartment, got into an altercation and fatally stabbed two people, Whitney said.The suspect lived in the same apartment complex and it's unclear whether he knew the victims. At the time, officers did not know that the apartment and bakery incidents were connected.Gas station and business: 2 woundedJust after 6 p.m., officers got a robbery siren alarm at an insurance business in Garden Grove. The suspect had stabbed a woman at the business, stolen money and taken off, police said. "This female employee was very brave. This guy was armed with knives -- she fought as best as she could," Whitney said.By then, officers had talked to several witnesses and realized it was the same suspect involved in the previous incidents. They sent out an alert on his car as undercover detectives searched parking lots and nearby streets.Shortly after, police got another call of a man stabbed in the back while pumping gas and his nose nearly slashed off by the same suspect."Again, multiple scenes going on at the same time," Whitney said. "I've worked here for 30 years. This is the first time I've ever seen something like this where we have a suspect kill four people in one day and attack other people that are just innocent victims. It's pure evil."The woman and the man were hospitalized with serious injuries and are expected to survive, police said.Attacks at stores: 2 more killedWitnesses told officers the Mercedes was last seen headed toward Santa Ana and investigators sent undercover detectives in that direction.They saw the car parked at a 7-Eleven and police surrounded the convenience store. The suspect came out carrying a knife and a handgun, and police confronted him and arrested him, authorities said. Investigators discovered he'd stabbed the security guard to death and cut out his gun from his belt, Whitney said.While clearing the scene, they were told the suspect had also killed one person during a robbery at a Subway restaurant before he went to the 7-Eleven -- both in Santa Ana, police said. Law enforcement agencies from both agencies worked on the crime scenes.There are no known connections between the suspect and the victims, and the motive appears to be robbery, Whitney said."These crimes have nothing to do with hate or race," he added "The suspect is Hispanic and so are most of the victims."Authorities have not identified the suspect.Santa Ana and Garden Grove are both in Orange County about 35 miles from Los Angeles. 3496

A group of teenagers who filmed themselves coughing near others at a Virginia grocery store prompted a police investigation and prompted the store to discard fresh produce.According to the Purecellville Police Department, two of the juveniles involved in the incident admitted to filming the video, but police determined there was no criminal intent in the incident.Police say the teenagers filmed themselves walking near grocery store patrons and coughing into their sleeves. Initially, grocery store employees thought that the teens were intentionally coughing on produce in the store. The store immediately removed some of the produce, but police later determined that no cutomers or produce were spit on or coughed on directly."We appreciate the store’s swift action in reporting the incident to police and removing any items in question to ensure the health of store patrons and employees," police said.None of the teens have been arrested, and police say they will not release the footage because those involved were minors.In their warning, police urged parents to speak to their children about "why such behavior is wrong, especially given the current situation regarding the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19)." 1230

A bride from New Orleans went all out for her beach wedding -- enlisting 34 of her closest friends and family to join her as bridesmaids on her big day.Casme Carter tied the knot June 2 in Destin, Florida, with her six sisters and 28 friends by her side.She says that she planned on having 50 ladies but some couldn't make it because of family reasons and an Army deployment.But why -- and how -- so many? Carter says she has a lot of friends from mentoring and participating in women's empowerment groups."I wanted them all to experience the love that they've seen that I've been praying for and wanting. I wanted them to witness it first hand," Carter says.When she told her now-husband, Gary Carter, of her plans, he didn't think she was serious at first, she says."He thought I was joking but then he was like, 'If anybody can do it.' He knows how I am and how many women are around me," Carter said.Carter says her husband's next concern was whether he could match that many women with men. "You don't expect me to have that many groomsmen," she recalls him saying.The bridesmaids were even more surprised than her husband because Carter didn't tell them that there would be 34 women in her wedding.She says she broke them up into a few different group chats to discuss details and told them just to get neutral beach dresses, and bring some bathing suits and khakis.The bride says the surprise went off without a hitch. The drinks are flowing, the bands are playing, and if you had a good day, you probably have a fresh catch to filet and throw on the grill. But Captain Jerry Pope says if you dive a little deeper, you will see not everything is as perfect as it seems. “You know, the reef holds bait and it holds a lot of snappers and groupers, ballyhoos, things like that. If our ballyhoo go away, our winter time fishing is going to go to nothing,” said Pope.The keys are home to part of the Florida Reef system, the third largest reef in the world. But the reef is sick, and the tourists that bring this place to life might be part of the problem. Reef coverage, which is the part covered by actual coral instead of other organisms, declined from 33 percent in 1984 to just 6 percent in 2008. Now, the guidebook company Fodor’s included the Florida Keys Reef on its “No List” for 2020. It's an annual list of places Fodor’s recommends you avoid for a variety of reasons. It put the reef there to try to protect it. Sarah Fangman is in charge of making sure the reef doesn’t die. “We’re working really hard to make sure that visitors that do come here enjoy these resources can experience the unique marine ecosystem that we have here, but do so in a way that doesn’t harm it,” said Fangman. Experts say it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what's damaging the reef. Warming waters, sunscreen, chemical imbalance could all be to blame. Also, tourism. “The concern is additional pressures like tourism, like water quality issues, like fishing issues can cause additional challenges,” said Fangman.Divers from several organizations are working to plant new coral and applying a special solution to stop the spread of disease. If the reef does die, it could kill Sam McCroskey’s way of life, too. “We’re going to go out to the inner reef, part of the world's third-largest barrier reef system,” said McCroskey. McCroskey guides scuba divers checking out the reef. He showed us what dying coral looks like. “They talk about how fast the reef is getting destroyed,” said McCroskey. The death of this reef could kill more than the scuba business as well. “The services that these reefs provide, not only in providing habitat providing food, but providing protection are really important to those of us that live here in the Keys. And so, any threat to them, any threat at all is something that we all need to be concerned about,” said Fangman. “If we don’t have the reef out there, that’s so beautiful and that people come to see and come to enjoy, then they’re not going to come.
