SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Authorities in San Diego have confiscated twelve guns from campuses across the county since the anonymous hotline “Students Speaking Out” was implemented in 1999.That’s according to Dep. Adriana Uribe with the San Diego Sheriff’s Department, who helps manage the county’s anonymous tip hotlines.“That’s twelve potential school shootings that didn’t happen because somebody said something,” said Uribe.RELATED: San Diego uncle of '14th Columbine fatality' speaks out following Florida tragedyStudents Speaking Out has also been credited with solving over 400 crimes at schools.Students can call their number anonymously at 888-580-8477. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- At least one person died in a Bay Park crash as rain soaked the roads in San Diego County Sunday morning. According to California Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before 6 a.m. Sunday on northbound Interstate 5 just before Clairemont Drive. CHP reports that the vehicle was traveling at high speeds just before the crash. At least three vehicles were involved in the crash. According to CHP, the driver of a pickup truck crashed into the center divide before being struck by two other vehicles. The driver of the truck was standing outside his vehicle when he was hit and killed by one of the vehicles. The driver was 48-year-old Joseph Vito Berardino, according to the medical examiner. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - At least two people suffered major burns in a boat fire off the coast of San Diego late Saturday night, according to Coast Guard officials.Two patients were critically injured and were flown from the boat by helicopter and have been transported to the hospital. The total number of patients at this time is unknown. The rest are expected to be brought to the shore by boat. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — As the federal government failed to pass a new spending measure to fund several agencies through the new year, a partial government shutdown went into effect late Friday.TSA agents in San Diego, categorized as essential employees, will return to work Saturday but without pay under the partial shutdown. Though, Wilson added a shutdown was worth ensuing more border security for him and other agents. "It's about darn time Congress do something about border security. They keep punting, and we're very, very tired of it.
