EL CAJON, Calif. (CNS) - A shooting in El Cajon early Tuesday morning left a man dead, El Cajon police said.Officers responding to a report of gunfire found a man mortally wounded in the 1500 block of East Main Street in El Cajon about 1:30 a.m., according to police.The victim, whose identity was withheld pending family notification, died en route to a hospital, ECPD Lt. Kevin MacArthur said.No description of the suspected shooter was available as of early Tuesday afternoon, and the motive for the slaying was unknown. 531

(KGTV) — An East County restaurant hit hard by the pandemic has been hit by thieves, twice in a three-day span.Like so many other restaurants, the pandemic has not been kind to Hacienda Casa Blanca Mexican Restaurant and Cantina in El Cajon."Definitely not easy. It's been crazy with new changes every day," said co-owner Cindy Gomez.Gomez says the restaurant has received a federal PPP loan, but revenues are down about 30% to 40% since March."From the first day, we've been trying to keep our staff working .. Haven't had to lay off anyone," said Gomez.Gomez says they had to spend extra when COVID-19 restrictions led them to set up for dining in the parking lot. That extra money spent vanished overnight during a weekend a few weeks ago. Two large canopies and two umbrellas were stolen.A few days later, there was another theft. This time, an umbrella, table, chairs, and a plant disappeared."Take a lot to get angry, but I got angry. Then it went to total frustration," said Gomez.Eventually, the items from the second theft were recovered outside a nearby building. Gomez says her surveillance footage was deleted over, but she saw the video and believes both thefts may have involved transients."In the first theft, two men with shopping carts rolled into the parking lot, dismantled the canopies threw them into their carts, and rolled away," said Gomez.The restaurant does store most of its outdoor set up inside, but what was left out, was targeted. 1486

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, received his initial dose of a coronavirus vaccine Tuesday morning. Fauci was among a group of federal government health officials and health care workers who were vaccinated. He was joined by Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, National Institutes of Health Director Francis Collins, and front-line workers from the NIH. Those who are administered Pfizer's vaccine are asked to return 21 days later for a booster.The vaccine was one of two authorized by the FDA for emergency use. Earlier this month, Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine received an emergency use authorization from the FDA. The vaccine will be the first of two shots. Those vaccinated with Moderna's coronavirus vaccine will be asked to get a booster 28 days later.Fauci has expressed optimism that getting the US to herd immunity through a coronavirus vaccine will begin allowing Americans to return to normal. Getting enough people vaccinated to allow for a return to normalcy, however, might not happen until well into 2021, Fauci has cautioned."Just over the past few days, science has allowed us to have a vaccine that when we distribute it to people throughout the country, and hopefully throughout the world, we will crush this outbreak that has really terrorized us for the last 11 months, not only here in the United States, but worldwide,” Fauci said at an event last Friday at Duke University. “It's damaged severely the economy and led to people suffering things, not necessarily directly related to being ill themselves, but all the secondary consequences that go with the effects of a global pandemic such as this." 3381

Early Friday morning Japanese time, officials from the Japanese government told its citizens to stay indoor as a missile fired from North Korea flew over the nation and into the Pacific Ocean, NHK reported. NHK reported said that the missile flew over the Hokkaido region of Japan. Even after the missile passed, Japanese officials warned that debris could still strike parts of the Hokkaido region.South Korea's news agency Yonhap reported that a missile was launched from near Pyongyang.The Japanese government said that it did not attempt to intercept the missile, NHK reported. This is the second missile fired from North Korea over Japan in the last month. On Aug. 29, a missile was fired from North Korea and flew over Japan. The missile launch comes just days after the UN placed sanctions on North Korea for its testing of atomic weapons. (KGTV) - A Dulzura man is describing his harrowing escape, after he woke up to his apartment on fire.At Barrett Lake Winery Monday morning, flames tore through a converted barn housing the apartment of vineyard foreman Patrick Rowan. Around 5:30 a.m., Rowan woke to a loud noise and opened a door which opens into the barn's interior."So bright, about 20 feet away. Looked like the sun parked in the room next to me," said Rowan.He saw flames everywhere and rushed into a second apartment unit to rescue two barn cats, but they kept running off."When I looked back, the door -- ceiling part -- was falling. Everything was on fire, except to the left, so I ran through there," said Rowan.He ran back his own apartment to get his pets: two Siamese kittens named Tom and Jerry. For minutes, he tried to coax them to come out from under the bed, but they didn't. He then noticed that his only exit, the kitchen area, was on fire."The roof, ceiling, and door are all wood, and all on fire. Started falling, so I had to get out of there. I ran through the fire, but didn't get burned," said Rowan.As he escaped, he didn't feel fear, only guilt."I felt like a piece of **** because I couldn't save my animals. They were my homies. They were the only things that mattered," said Rowan.One kitten died in the fire. The other is missing. Rowan's apartment was a total loss, and he didn't have renters insurance.He'll be homeless for the holidays, but he's still planning on buying gifts for family and friends."I'm not letting it ruin anything. I'm getting people gifts. People are yelling at me about it ... I don’t have anything anyways. The few hundred dollars I want to spend don't matter," said Rowan.Fire investigators told the property owners the fire was suspicious and the investigation is ongoing.
